Ted Lasso may have as many Emmys as there are AFC Richmond players in a match, but almost four years into the life of Apple TV+, it’s far from the only reason to visit the streamer. Since its launch in 2019, Apple has paid out for starry collaborations with big names in Hollywood both behind and in front of the camera, many of which have now – creatively at least – paid off.
It hasn’t been a straight ascent, but by sticking with the majority of their original shows over multiple season renewals rather than the slash ‘n’ burn approach elsewhere, Apple TV+ has established a healthy slate of acclaimed originals. There’s weird horror Servant, hard sci-fi Foundation, eerie drama Severance, spy thriller Slow Horses, plus real-life dramatisations, and a lot of very decent comedy. We pick our recommendations below.

Maximilian Osinski makes a big splash in season three of "Ted Lasso" as Zava, a soccer superstar with a big ego - but maybe a big heart to match. AFC Richmond brings him in to try to keep the team from getting relegated - and to one-up West Ham, owned by the villainous Rupert (Anthony Head) and coached by Nate (Nick Mohammed). But what fans might not know is that Osinski is married to an actor who's making splashes on an Apple TV+ series of her own: Dichen Lachman, who plays Ms. Casey on the hit series "Severance." On "Severance," Lachman's Ms. Casey is a mysterious employee at Lumon Industries who, fans learn in the season finale, is tied to a deep secret the company is keeping from Mark S (Adam Scott).
Osinski and Lachman married in 2015 and share a daughter born that same year. Both have been working actors for a long time.

Severance is an Apple TV+ sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Dan Erickson, directed by Ben Stiller, and stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro and Tramell Tillman.
An excellent series that has been awarded with an Emmy and has received raving reviews. Thrilling, engaging and intriguing, it tells a novel story with interesting characters brought forth with the astounding performances by an A-list cast. It navigates drama, thriller and sci-fi so craftily, it will have you glued to the screen.
Premise
Mark S. leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This innovative experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself.

While everyone's still recovering from that intense season finale, "Severance" has, by the grace of God, begun production on season 2. That means all our questions that remain unanswered will soon be addressed. In the meantime, we're all left to reflect on the deep and unsettling insights writer/creator Dan Erickson has provided on the show's first nine episodes.
The man behind "Severance" came out of relative obscurity to hit us all, world-weary as we were following two years of a global pandemic, with some profound questions. The show tackled everything from our relationship to corporate culture and its relentless focus on productivity to how grief can permeate all facets of our existence and what it means to live with it.
Erickson, who previously worked with digital comedy production house Super Deluxe, has spoken about being inspired by movies such as "The Matrix" and "The Truman Show," and even cited Mike Judge...

Adam Scott has been in the business for a very long time playing across a multitude of genres, but made a name for himself as a funnyman in shows like "Party Down" and "Parks and Recreation" and as Will Ferrell's jerkwad brother in "Step Brothers." Scott may be most known for comedies, but the multifaceted performer recently earned his first Emmy nomination for his performance as Mark S. in the Apple TV+ workplace thriller, "Severance." It seems impossible to overstate how fantastic Dan Erickson's "Severance" is, and it was no surprise that in its first...

Following in the footsteps of seemingly almost every single 80s/90s film out there, Get Shorty is now the latest movie set to receive the television treatment. Yup, that’s right, Epix and MGM are teaming up to produce a show based on Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1995 film.
THR is the one with the report, telling us that Davey Holmes will serve as creator and executive producer, with the general plot set to make a few tweaks to Elmore Leonard’s original story:
The dark comedy centers on Miles Daly, who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada. For the sake of his daughter, he attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through a Hollywood film. But instead of leaving the criminal world behind, he accidentally brings it with him to Los Angeles.

Get Shorty is such a great film! If you’ve never seen it, you’ve gotta check it out. I bust up laughing every time I watch it. That flick is loaded with amazingly funny one-liners. The film was based off the book by Elmore Leonard, and now the dark comedy Hollywood mob story is being adapted into a TV series for Epix.
There will be ten one-hour episodes being produced through MGM TV and executive producer Davey Holmes (Shameless), who is also writing the series. According to Deadline, the series will center on the character Miles Daly, “who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada. For the sake of his daughter, he attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through a Hollywood film. Lego fans rejoice! The Lego Movie has arrived, and with it much to be thankful for. With high critical praise and an estimated $69.1 million in the domestic box office bank, it has already turned a profit against its $60 million production costs. It was enough to put more traditional Hollywood fare to shame, as George Clooney’s war film The Monuments Men fell apart financially and critically. Directed by Clooney, the star-studded cast made an estimated $22.7 million, not necessarily a bad start, but at a $70 million budget and a critical bashing, it may be in for a poor finish. At least it may have comfort in knowing it will do better than Vampire Academy…though directed by Mean Girls director Mark S. Waters, which turned into a mega-hit, this one appears to have a much less bright future ahead. With no reported budget and an estimated $4.1 million (giving it a seventh-place...

Editor's Note - Ed Kennedy was our social media hero with the election results last night, and didn't get a chance to finish the Meme. We'll have a wrap-up of the history that was made, but in the meantime, enjoy these tidbits from Ed, and feel free to add your own! (but please keep it PG-13!).
Something that caught my eye was CBS News correspondent Mo Rocca, an out gay man. His tweet said "As a @CBSNews correspondent I can't tell you how I voted. So I'll show you..." He then tweeted this photo. Have we found a new gay Republican, or am I misinterpreting it?
I don't see how I could be missing the meaning here
Harry Shum might want to try ProActive for that
Alec Mapa made voting a family affair, since this election is about our families
Zachary Quinto mans the voter issue line at the Obama campaign.

Magic Mike screenwriter Reid Carolin says that he has a musical version of Magic Mike in the works, with eyes on Broadway. And Alex Pettyfer says that if it happens the movie cast should do opening night. There's an interactive element with the audience plugged in as well.
In the ongoing rhetoric surrounding GOProud's endorsement of Mitt Romney, Michael Musto called the group "Jewish Nazis" which while perhaps apt, is a loser because the rules of argument state that the first person to invoke the Nazis always loses. GOProud responded by calling Musto a "human Muppet" who should stick to entertainment and leave politics to the adults. Personally, I'd love to be a human Muppet.

When the producers of "Newsies" announced its Broadway run, it wasn't the first time that fans of the cult-favorite 1992 film on which the stage musical is based had reason to get excited. The show premiered at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in September, and it's one of several productions transferring to Broadway this season from regional theaters."Regional theaters offer a nurturing environment and an economical alternative that allows a really introspective look on the piece itself," says Mark S. As a final bit of hope for the world: for all the noise some folks made about introducing a gay character to the comic, Archie says they only had had seven subscription cancellations. And a ton of new ones.
