My Policeman, which had its world premiere today at the Toronto Film Festival, has its roots in a novel by Bethan Roberts which was actually based on a complicated love relationship between famed novelist E.M. Forster; his male lover of 40 years, a policeman named Bob Buckingham; and Buckingham’s wife May Hockey, who slowly came to realize her husband had a long-standing affair with Forster, but even after he had suffered a series of strokes took care of the author in his later life so deep was their friendship. Roberts changed the names and fictionalized it all for her book, which is now the basis of Ron Nyswaner’s (Philadelphia) screenplay that explores the love triangle of three freewheeling friends in 1957 who each was hobbled by the mores of the time, repressing rather than expressing their own sexuality, even as the...

Harry Styles is arguably one of the most famous people in the world right now. Aside from dropping one of the best-selling albums of the year, the former One Direction member is getting himself back on the silver screen in a big way. Not only is he starring in Olivia Wilde's "Don't Worry, Darling" (which has certainly generated its fair share of conversation in recent weeks), but he is also front-and-center in "My Policeman."
Prime Video's adaptation of the book of the same name by Bethan Roberts is headed to theaters next month. And now, we've got a new trailer for the film, which sees Styles at the center of a forbidden love triangle in the '50s. One expects this will get people talking as well. Let's take a look, shall we?

Harry Styles plays a closeted policeman in the new trailer for romantic drama “My Policeman.”
Released by Amazon Studios on Wednesday, the teaser finds Styles and co-stars David Dawson and Emma Corrin entangled in a complicated love triangle. The story — an adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ 2012 novel — follows Styles’ character Tom Burgess, a closeted policemen. Since it is illegal to be gay in 1957 Brighton, Burgess begins dating a schoolteacher named Marion (Corrin), but also has a secret love affair with a museum curator named Patrick Hazelwood (Dawson).
The film jumps between two time periods: the 1950s and the 1990s. In the ’50s, Burgess navigates his love triangle, but then, 40 years later, Tom and Marion’s fraught relationship becomes even thornier as Patrick returns to their lives after suffering a stroke.
Gina McKee, Linus Roache and Rupert Everett round out the cast for the scenes that take place in the ’90s.

Scottish musical sensation Lewis Capaldi is the subject of a feature-length documentary directed by BAFTA winner Joe Pearlman (“Bros: After the Screaming Stops”) and produced by Pulse Films. The film will be shopped to buyers at the Cannes virtual market by Independent Entertainment.
The 24-year-old Capaldi has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame over the past 36 months, earning a Grammy nomination and Brit award for his debut single “Someone You Loved,” in addition to a second Brit for best new artist, and selling out an arena tour before he’d even released his debut album.
It’s a stark contrast to his life just three years ago, when he was still carrying his own gear while performing in Scottish bars and pubs. The film follows Capaldi over a five-year period, from a global headline tour to returning to his parents’ home in Scotland to start work on his sophomore album.

“While our primary focus is genre and thriller, we are drawn to stories of conflicted humanity that force viewers to question how they would react when faced with real or existential threats,” said James. “These stories are often grounded in truth – literal or allegorical – encouraging us to confront and challenge the assumptions we make about ourselves and the world around us.”

Screen can reveal the first look at Theo James in sci-fi Archive, the feature directing debut of Moon concept designer Gavin Rothery.
James stars opposite Stacy Martin in the film about a man working in a remote secret facility developing true, human-like artificial intelligence. His latest prototype is almost complete, but he has an ulterior motive that must be hidden at all costs: to be reunited with his dead wife. Toby Jones, Rhona Mitra and Peter Ferdinando round out the cast.
Both James and Martin are previous Screen Stars of Tomorrow, in 2009 and 2013 respectively.

“There’s much we can’t see, detect or comprehend, yet we spend our lives trying to get to the heart of this dark energy.” That’s the chilling threat at the start of the first clip (above) for Carol Morley’s Patricia Clarkson-fronted neo-noir detective drama Out of Blue.
The film, which is based on Martin Amis’ novel, plays in the Platform section of Tiff and premieres on Friday September 7 at 9:30pm in the Winter Garden Theater.
Clarkson plays Mike Hoolihan in the neo-noir metaphysical mystery. She’s a homicide detective called to investigate the shooting of leading astrophysicist and black hole expert, Jennifer Rockwell. But once on the case, she’s affected in ways she struggles to comprehend.
Jacki Weaver, James Caan, Toby Jones, Aaron Tveit, Mamie Gummer, Jonathan Majors and Devyn A Tyler also star in the crime drama from the helmer of The Falling.
