When The Standard Hotel on the Sunset Strip abruptly shut down in January of 2021, Bryan Rabin told The Hollywood Reporter that his weekly hub of celebrity-packed fabulosity — Giorgio’s nightclub — wasn’t over. Yes, it had been already on hiatus for the previous 10 months because of the Covid-19 pandemic (save for some virtual iterations). But, vowed Rabin, a few days after the Standard closed for good, “Giorgio’s is not closing. We’ll be back, when we get the pandemic under control, in a new location. A cluster of former prop warehouses and other commercial buildings — near the intersection of Melrose and Western avenues in an area known as Melrose Hill — is quietly yet quickly turning into a hive of art galleries, indie retailers and inventive nightlife. Existing and incoming tenants range from acclaimed sandwich shop Ggiata and L.A.-based womenswear brand Co to blue-chip megadealer David Zwirner.
The impresario behind it all is 32-year-old Zach Lasry, who along with his father, Marc — the billionaire hedge fund manager, Milwaukee Bucks co-owner and major Democratic Party donor — has invested in 18 properties. The son turned to real estate after first pursuing acting (he played Scott Caan’s assistant on Entourage) and behind-the-scenes Hollywood dreams (including, early on, as a Pa in the camera department for The Wolf of Wall Street).

Giorgio’s is heading to the desert.
Bryan Rabin and Adam Bravin will transform the iconic Mr. Lyons in Palm Springs into their legendary Giorgio’s discotheque following the opening night gala of the Palms Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 3.
“We have been looking for the right opportunity to bring Giorgio’s to the desert,” Rabin tells Variety. “I love the glamour of the desert, the sexy nights, the architecture and the deep history of Palm Spring as Hollywood’s playground. So many of our clients will be in town and Mr. Lyons fits the bill in every way as a location so it’s one of those perfect moments.”
Launched more than five years ago, Giorgio’s — named after music producer Giorgio Moroder, aka “The Father of Disco” — takes place on Saturday nights at the Standard hotel on Sunset Boulevard. Guests have included Beyoncé, Emma Stone, Alan Cumming,...
