California State Attorney General from 1983-91. Former prosecutor for Los Angeles County. As Attorney General he successfully passed restrictions on assault weapons after a gunman used one to murder five children in a school in Stockton in 1989.
His family began the nationally known Van De Kamp's bakery products company.
