In recent years Marvel, both in the comics and on the screen, have been pushing the character Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. She has had multiple solo comic series, has been the star of her own Disney+ show, was the key character in the 2020 Avengers video game and was one of the main characters in 2023’s The Marvels. However, despite how many times they try the character never seems to stick with audiences.
In May of last year the teenage heroine was “killed off” in an issue of The Amazing Spider-Man. Her death was rather short-lived as only a couple months later, in July, she was brought back, this time with a new background as she was previously an Inhuman but was now made a Mutant like the X-Men. The world of Marvel comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, in simple terms, a similar world, with the latter being based on the former. Although the majority of the MCU storylines are inspired or directly taken from the world of Marvel comics, Marvel comics are a huge universe with several parallel storylines based on the same character running simultaneously.

And so, fans have mostly come to believe that Marvel Comics is the main influencing factor, a recent surprising revelation revealed that the MCU too is heavily inspiring the events of the comics. As per one Marvel writer, Kevin Feige apparently called the hit on Ms. Marvel in the Amazing Spider-Man comics to help the MCU storyline.

Post Avengers: Endgame, Kevin Feige committed to more projects than he has ever been in the MCU. In addition to developing theatrical films. he also had to develop MCU shows that told their own story but later tied into the overall universe. Among the new heroes that the studio established in Phase 4 was Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan.

The Captain Marvel superfan charmed audiences who were appreciative of the nuanced exploration of the Pakistani-Muslim superhero. However, bringing the superhero into the MCU also meant some sacrifice had to be made as Feige was revealed to be behind controversial the death of Kamala Khan in a recent comic run.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is a movie star. "The Marvels" has been cited as another sign of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fall from dominance, but everyone loves young actor Iman Vellani as this spunky heroine. /Film even named Kamala the best movie hero of 2023 and proclaimed her the future of the MCU.
Of course, Kamala comes from Marvel Comics and was co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie. The comics made a bizarre move of synergy in 2023; between Kamala's Disney+ show "Ms. Marvel" and the theatrical run of "The Marvels," she heroically dies in "Amazing Spider-Man" #26 (by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.), published in May 2023.
Wells' "Amazing Spider-Man" isn't exactly a fan-favorite (the stink of breaking up Peter and Mj has carried across his run) and this was a low point. It was the cheapest of cheap melodrama and Kamala perished while pulling guest star duty.

It is not uncommon for American comics to make manga and anime references, nor is it uncommon for Japanese manga and anime to make Western comic references. For example, we have written about the numerous references present in Jujutsu Kaisen, but just a couple of days ago, another popular reference-filled American comic gave us an amazing manga reference, thus creating a crossover that we got, but never knew we wanted. The comic in question is, of course, Deadpool, and the manga and anime referenced is Chainsaw Man.
This actually makes sense. If you’re familiar with both works, you’ll know that both Deadpool and Chainsaw Man are known for their gritty, down-to-earth approach and the main heroes of both shows are very similar, which is why this reference/crossover was so perfect.

In present times, Deadpool is arguably one of the most popular comic book characters, if not the most popular. His unique personality sets him apart from the typical superhero archetype, where one has to be noble, and morally upright, and his wit, sarcasm, and constant engagement with the readers make him refreshing and unconventional.

But what sets apart The Merc with a Mouth is his tendency to address the audience directly and acknowledge events from the real world, setting him apart from other heroes. The hero has done it again as he breaks the fourth wall by making a subtle gesture that pays homage to Chainsaw Man.

Balance. It’s the core theme of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 for the PlayStation 5, the follow-up game to Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020). The game alternates between Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary Jane, each character taking on different missions, both focused on strengthening their communities and protecting NYC from the emergence of threats both old and new, including Kraven the Hunter and Venom.
The result is not only the best superhero video game ever made but also one of the most quintessential Spider-Man stories ever told. There is an inherent understanding of both Spider-Men and the characters who populate their world that allows for the kind of growth and maturity that Spidey fans have been clamoring to see reflected in the comics for decades. So, what is it that makes Insomniac’s Spider-Man such a testament to the character, and how can the comics and further adaptations learn from it?...

"Futurama" has never been shy about tackling current events and season 11 is no different. Fresh off satirizing Amazon and online shopping two episodes ago, the series' latest episode — "Rage Against The Vaccine" — is about the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this episode, Planet Earth (and Planet Express) deal with the outbreak of a new virus, dubbed Explovid-23. The virus, spread through nebulous means, apparently originates from the Sewer Mutants. Quarantining the sewers doesn't contain it, though, because Leela (Katey Sagal) was visiting her parents and becomes a superspreader when she returns to the surface.
Half the episode is Hermes (Phil Lamarr), convinced the virus is a form of zombie-ism, trying to find a cure with Voodoo. The other half is Covid jokes, several of them centered around the show's resident scientist, Professor Farnsworth (Billy West). I wouldn't say all these jokes are home runs, but (or even because) they'll be familiar to...

We all know that the entertainment industry is unfair and that, in most cases, those who work the hardest get the smallest piece of the cake. Well, how about that piece of cake being small yet never arriving at your table?
In the wake of the strikes that are shaking up the industry (and rightfully so), many writers, producers, and showrunners are coming out with their stories about the money entertainment corporations owe them.
For instance, Cody Ziglar, a writer for MCU’s ‘She-Hulk’ series, says his residual check for the show was $396. For those who are unacquainted with the term, residual payment (also known as backend payment or backend compensation) is part of a contract that agrees upon profit sharing after the work is finished and receives profits.
For example, if a writer contractually agrees upon 1% of backend compensation, and the show/movie earns a profit of $100000, his residual check would be $1000.

Disney CEO Bob Iger sat down for an interview Thursday morning and started trending immediately after he said that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA’s conditions were “just not realistic” and that the prospect of a writers and actors strike was “very disturbing.”
Iger’s comments come on a historic day, when SAG-AFTRA is expected to announce they are joining WGA on the picket lines after their Wednesday contract negotiations deadline passed without a deal. It would be the first Hollywood double strike in sixty years.
Also notable for context, Iger’s comments arrive the day after his Disney contract was extended for an additional two years. Sky-high executive salaries have become a lightning rod during the WGA strike and a rallying cry on social media as CEOs.
“The lack of self awareness in this business never ceases to amaze me,” actor Anson Mount said on social media in response to Iger’s Thursday comments,...

Cletus Kasady (aka Carnage) is back and badder than ever in Carnage Reigns, a brand new crossover event from Marvel Comics that pits the supervillain up against Miles Morales!
Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that the crossover will include Carnage Reigns Alpha #1, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #6 (Carnage Reigns Part 2) and Carnage #13 (Carnage Reigns Part 3). It’ll be seven parts, also tying into Red Goblin #5, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #7 and Carnage #14 in June and then ending in Carnage Reigns Omega #1, also in June.
Writer Alex Paknadel tells Bd, “Carnage Reigns is an old-fashioned David and Goliath story pitting a greener, Spider-Man against the most sadistic monster in the Marvel Universe—Cletus Kasady! Miles has only been this out of his depth on a handful of occasions, which is a gift from a storytelling perspective. Jennifer Walters has a complicated life as a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.
We are finally getting to the point where the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is so grandiose that the folks over at Disney can practically make a series or movie about any character from Marvel’s overwhelmingly large roster and it would be successful, at least in terms of viewership.
She-Hulk is a character that isn’t too famous, and yet here we are, in the year 2022, and she has her own show now. This was a show I wasn’t really looking forward to, however, despite being a fan of this franchise.

This is not Zeb Wells’ first time in a comic book writers’ room. It’s not even his first time breaking Spider-Man stories as part of a team. The big difference with this one is that hopefully no children get eaten on his watch.
“I deserve that,” the new Amazing Spider-Man lead writer chuckles when we compare this new team project to “Shed,” the critically acclaimed, impossibly bleak story he wrote back when Peter Parker was in the middle of his “Brand New Day” era that saw the Lizard return and promptly eat his son.
There’s a lot different this time with the new status quo unrolling in “Beyond,” starting with Spidey himself. The premise of the new run of Amazing Spider-Man has Ben Reilly becoming Spider-Man after the copyright for the character is swiped from under Peter by the Beyond Corporation.
And then there’s the creative team surrounding Wells.
