First of all, I’m a huge fan of the music of Billy Joel! “Piano Man,” “Uptown Girl,” “The Longest Time,” “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” his music is great! If you’re also a fan of Billy Joel, you’ll be happy to learn that MGM Television is developing a new anthology series that will be inspired by this classic music.
MGM is developing the series with Universal Music Publishing Group, and it will be as a scripted "arc-thology" series called Scenes From an Italian Restaurant, which is the title of one of Joel’s favorite songs.
The show “will see each episode based on lyrics of his hits and populated by characters from his songs, including the Stranger, the Piano Man, Mamma Leone and Sgt. O'Leary. The tracks will be reimagined and rearranged by Joel's music team — with his input — and take his tunes in new directions.
