Adam Fierro has exited his role as executive producer on “Narcos” for Season 2, TheWrap has learned. The former “The Walking Dead” consulting producer had been billed as the new showrunner on the Pablo Escobar drug trafficking drama upon its renewal. The show charts the rise of the Colombian drug trafficker, as played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura. The show also stars Boyd Holbrook as DEA agent Steve Murphy, “Game of Thrones” alum Pedro Pascal as his partner Javier Pena, and Luis Guzman as cartel boss Gacha. Netflix has renewed “Narcos” for a second season, the streaming network confirmed to TheWrap. The show charts the rise of Colombian drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura. The show also stars Boyd Holbrook as DEA agent Steve Murphy, “Game of Thrones” alum Pedro Pascal as his partner Javier Pena, and Luis Guzman as cartel boss Gacha. The show has met with largely positive reviews from critics, with TheWrap’s Mekeisha Madden Toby writing: “Even with its flaws, ‘Narcos’ is a provocative show worth the watch. For history lovers and anyone who has seen ‘Entourage’ or the documentary films ‘Cocaine Cowboys,...

"Narcos," Netflix's new drama about the rise of the Colombian drug cartels, opens with a title card explaining, "Magical realism is defined as what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe. It then adds, "There is a reason magical realism was born in Colombia." This observation — which the "Narcos" creators like enough to have a character repeat in a later episode — suggests a magical realism take on the story of Pablo Escobar and the rest of the Medellin Cartel. Instead, it's a pretty straightforward, if lengthy (the first season has 10 episodes; I've seen the first 7), take on the sordid, tragic business of Pablo and his comrades. It moves at a fast clip and is eminently watchable, even as it feels like a pretty superficial take on the subject. Created by Chris Brancato, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, with the first episode directed...

Released today on Netflix, crime thriller Narcos stumbles early on but rapidly improves. Here's our spoiler-free review...
How much you enjoy the first episode of Narcos depends very strongly on how you feel about voiceover. The first hour of Netflix’s new Pablo Escobar series is essentially a long montage of character moments and exposition, none of which is particularly cohesive. It seems like it’s stylistically trying to evoke Goodfellas, but ultimately it feels clumsy and lazy. Every little piece of information is told to us by the drawl of Boyd Holbrook’s Steve Murphy, who gives us no reason to empathise with him unless you’re drawn to cheesy lines and posing machismo. There is no sense of tension or stakes and it’s hard to care much about any of what is happening on screen.
Outside of what he did for a living, my knowledge of Pablo Escobar is pretty much non-existent,...

Netflix has been having a hit-or-miss year with its originals, with runaway successes like Marvel’s Daredevil and lackluster bows like Bloodline and Sense8, but Narcos definitely has all the trappings of another hit for the streaming giant.
The first trailer for the 10-episode series paints it as a fast-paced, well-researched exploration of the rise of Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar as his Medellin cartel ruled the country with an iron fist in the late 1980s. Narcos simultaneously looks inside Escobar’s empire and follows the law enforcement officials tasked with bringing him down.
Wagner Moura plays Escobar, while Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal take the other two lead roles as DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena. Jose Padilha (RoboCop, Elite Squad) directed all 10 installments of the series, which will land on Netflix August 28.
Here’s the official synopsis for Narcos, below:

"if there's one thing I've learned in the narco world, it's that life is more complicated than you think."
So says DEA agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook, "Gone Girl") in the new trailer for Netflix's upcoming '80s drug crime drama "Narcos." He and his partner, Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal, "Game of Thrones"), learn just how complicated it can be as they go from busting hippies in flip-flops to pursuing some of the most dangerous drug lords in the world - including the infamous Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura).
Watch the trailer.
The trailer presents a lot of action and a lot of tense politicking. There's money. There's spying. There's violence. There's a lot of bad '80s fashion. It looks terrific, and the gritty drama should be a nice complement to Netflix's slate of originals.
All 10 episodes of "Narcos" will be available to stream on August 28.

That's the question infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar threatens Colombian law enforcement in a trailer for the new Netflix series Narcos.
