The Super Bowl-winning 2000 Baltimore Ravens were among the NFL’s greatest defensive teams ever, and now the team is getting 30 for 30 treatment. ESPN Films has kicked off production on a documentary on the squad led by future Hall of Famers Ray Lewis, Rod Woodson and Ed Reed.
The doc centers on one of the most notorious football teams to ever play the game. Few teams in NFL history have boasted, bullied or brandished as much bravado as the 2000 Ravens. The rest of the NFL hated them, but no one could say a thing because few could beat the Ravens on the field. The defense set a league record for fewest points allowed in a 16-game regular season and pitched four shutouts. Luckily for sports fans, their full-throated reign coincided perfectly with the rise of the “reality television” era via ESPN’s Hard Knocks.

New Orleans (AP) — Despite threatening skies, the Mardi Gras party carried on as thousands of costumed revelers cheered glitzy floats with make-believe monarchs in an all-out bash before Lent. In the French Quarter, as usual, Fat Tuesday played out with all its flesh and raunchiness.
Crowds were a little smaller than recent years, perhaps influenced by the forecast of rain. Still, parades went off as scheduled even as a fog settled over the riverfront and downtown areas.
Police, who had to deal with massive waves of visitors — first for Super Bowl and then for Mardi Gras — reported no major problems other than Saturday night when four people were shot on Bourbon Street. A suspect has been arrested.
There was a heavy police presence in the tourist-filled Quarter, where crowds began to swell in the early afternoon and would be bursting at the seams by the time police on horseback declared the party over at midnight.

Sunday marked the greatest day in the American sports calendar. In this year’s marque game, the favoured San Francisco 49ers went up against the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans.
Coming into the game there was multitude of sub-plots that threatened to overshadow the NFL season finale. With brothers Jim and John Harbaugh opposing coaches, the game was certainly a family affair, and win or lose this was to be the final game of the controversial but legendary Ravens linebacker, Ray Lewis.
The Ravens raced to a 7-3 first quarter lead courtesy of a Flacco touchdown throw to Anquan Boldin, and a redzone stop by the Ravens defence forcing a San Francisco field goal.
The second quarter saw the Ravens increase their lead to 21-6. Baltimore capitalised on two San Francisco turnovers including an interception by New Orleans native Ed Reed. Jacoby Jones finished off the first half with a spectacular 56yd touchdown catch,...

A scuffle broke out between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers during Super Bowl Xlvii after the Ravens' Ed Reed intercepted a pass from Colin Kaepernick in the second quarter of the game.
The players were pushing and shoving -- each other. Except for Ravens cornerback Cary Williams, who gave one of the referees a pretty good shove (see below). Unnecessary roughness penalties were awarded to San Francisco's Joe Staley and Baltimore's Corey Graham.
However, we were under the impression that purposeful contact with an official should always result in an ejection, and NBC Sports' Mike Florio concurs. He says NFL official and officiating supervisor Jim Daopoulos walked him through the rules and there really is no question -- Williams should have been ejected from the game.

Now that he's been ousted from the NFL playoffs after losing in the Afc championship game to the Baltimore Ravens (complete with a fine for his slide-kick against Raven Ed Reed), Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen will have to take solace in their West Coast mansion.
The 22,000-square-foot behemoth took three years to build, cost $20 million and apparently features a moat surrounding most of the property. There is no word about a drawbridge, dungeon or throne room.
We like to imagine that instead of watching Super Bowl Xlvii between the Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, Brady will be swimming in the moat -- filled with money, Scrooge McDuck-style.

The NFL has slapped Tom Brady with a $10,000 fine, and rightfully so, for the punk move he pulled on Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed during the New England Patriots' losing quest for a Super Bowl Xlvii berth.
You could probably hear your neighbors yelling when Brady got away with his combination slide and intentional kick toward Reed near the end of the first half of the Afc championship game.
For the record, the kick landed on Reed's leg, though it appears to have come awfully close to a much more sensitive area of his body. Ouch.
Alas, even though the refs looked the other way, the NFL didn't. It was reported yesterday the league was reviewing the play that many, who apparently don't have eyeballs, defended as an "accident." Now NFL.com reports news of the monetary fine.

Tom Brady may be in some trouble following Sunday's Afc championship game. With a minute left in the first half of the game, Brady made a running play before sliding to the ground.
The problem is that it seems Brady didn't just slide. He also making a kicking motion at Baltimore Ravens' safety Ed Reed.
According to Espn, Reed wasn't rattled by the situation and didn't hold any ill feelings toward the kick, saying, "Brady's a great competitor and I love going against him and I know where his heart is at for this game. It was all good." Bernard Pollard, another Ravens' safety, didn't feel the same way, saying Brady "knew what he was doing. It has to go both ways. Hopefully the NFL will do something about it. If they don't, that's fine. If they do, then that's fine."

The 2012 NFL Season kicks off this week so it’s the perfect time to put myself out there with some Afc Predictions for the division winners and wildcard teams. I had the chance to fully study every team during preseason, analyze how the rookies will fit in, and dissect all the important off season moves.
I’ll tackle the Afc predictions this time out and hit on the Nfc when we meet again. Dare I say, you can take these predictions to the bank!
Afc North
Baltimore Ravens - The Ravens made the playoffs the last 4 seasons, and won their division last year. They have as good a Head Coach / Gm combo as there is in the NFL. Joe Flacco is just a good enough quarterback to win with, as tailback Ray Rice can do the rest. The offense should be very good in 2012 but this being Baltimore it’s still all about the defense.
