C.B. Cebulski, editor-in-chief at Marvel Comics, swept into Singapore Comic Con last week to share his insights on business trends in the Asian comics industry. Held as part of the Singapore Media Festival, Singapore Comic Con saw a 21 percent increase in visitorship this year compared to 2019. Cebulski was featured on a panel discussion titled “Breaking into the International Comics Market,” covering topics ranging from business practices to artistic innovation.
“I think we’ll be seeing more up-and-coming artists from Asia looking to focus on interior art and sequential storytelling, rather than just cover assignments,” said Cebulski, on creative shifts he sees in the region for the near future. He also anticipates art styles moving away from video game and anime-inspired forms, towards more hand-drawn, personal and culturally influenced line work, which is less reliant on computer rendering.

In case you were wondering, Krypto is the very best dog in all of comics.
There is an ongoing argument in my household about who the best dog in comics is. And before you ask, yes the debate predates the arrival of our toddler. This is an important question. Anyway, we have at various times taken several positions. Sometimes it was Pizza Dog from Hawkeye. One time it was Ace the Bat-hound (it was right when the first post-Rebirth Batman annual hit). Thori and Cosmo from Guardians of the Galaxy are non-starters even though I love them dearly (they're more like people than dogs). But the argument almost always comes down to Lockjaw vs. Krypto, and in Supergirl #38, Jody Houser and Rachael Stott provide some pretty definitive evidence that it's Krypto.
I'm not going to try and pretend it's anything complicated like who's got the best stories...
