YA fans are storming the castle (read: social media) and taking no prisoners. It all started when author Kiera Cass tweeted about getting off of a "very positive phone call" with Netflix, and now all of our timelines are awash in pastel gowns, red-headed girls, and pleas to Netflix in Portuguese. The hashtag #NetflixGreenlightTheSelection is popping off all over Twitter and if you're feeling very lost, alone, and confused, don't worry, you've come to the right place.
So, let's get into it....

Young Adult book properties are becoming cinematic fare all over the place, but when it comes to TV there've been a few significant hold-ups this season. ... The CW has now passed on its second piloting effort for "The Selection," an adaptation of Kiera Cass' bestselling Ya novel. The CW gave its "Selection" adaptation a second chance by ordering up a new script and starting the cast over from scratch with a seasoned director at the helm, but to no avail. The second effort was said to be much more adult than the book or the first pilot attempt and took noteworthy liberties with the characters and bedroom behaviors included -- a formula which has panned out well for the network with "The Vampire Diaries," which is at this point very loosely based upon L.J. Smith's novel series. Fellow Ya book-to-small screener "Delirium" was also passed on (by Fox) this week.

Here's an exclusive question and answer series with Pitch Dark Days author Kiera Cass on "The Elite," her awesome follow-up to "The Selection" which is now on shelves! Q: Aside from America, which of the Elite girls do you most identify with and why? A: I feel like if I was one of those girls, I would end up being Natalie. I think 9 times out of 10, I don’t actually know what’s going on. I really like that she doesn’t get too worked up over things that don’t matter. Not sure if I identify with her, but I like her a lot. Q: Celeste is written with a special sort of fervor. Is that just America's vitriol for the character or do you as an author draw from like a middle school meangirl experience or something for all that wretchedness? Kiera Cass definitely owned audiences with "The Selection," a "The Hunger Games" meets "The Bachelor" tale of royal romance in the dystopian era, and with book two, "The Elite," the author carries forward the momentum and all the feels her fans know so well. In "The Elite," we find America Singer - who at first was not interested in competing for the hand of Prince Maxon but who became seduced by his many charms - in quite the tricky pickle. She's now one of only six girls remaining in the widely-publicized competition for the prince's heart, but there's also the matter of Aspen, her sorta-flame from back home who just so happens to now be her guard at the palace. Talk about a sticky love triangle ... and a dangerous one, too. See also: Dark Days of Summer Tour presents 'The Elite' by Kiera Cass As the story unfolds, we come...

Yet another new castmember has been added to The CW's second pilot effort at adapting Kiera Cass' The Selection, and this time the character cast doesn't stem directly from the book version of the story. More casting news has come in for The CW's pilot "The Selection," and it sounds like they are diverging from the source material a bit by adding an entirely new character. Read on for the details.
Deadline broke the news that British actor Ben Aldridge ("Lark Rise to Candleford," "The Bible") will play Prince Rafe, the younger brother of Prince Maxon (Michael Malarkey), who loves his country and takes his leadership role seriously — but has a secret. What's interesting is that, as MTV pointed out, in Kiera Cass' dystopian novel, upon which the potential series is based, Prince Maxon is an only child.
"The Selection" is set 300 years in the future and is about 35 working-class young women who are chosen via a lottery to participate in a competition for the Royal Prince Maxon's hand in marriage, which would make the winner the new queen, all while a growing rebellion threatens to crush the crown.

Pilot season is in full swing and The CW is continuing to green light possible options for the 2013-2014 television season. As of today there are eight pilots that are vying for a season order.
One of the unlikely few to make the cut is a Hunger Games-esque drama, The Selection. This show made it to pilot last season before the network turned it down. Grobglas takes over the role which was previously played by Aimee Teegarden in The CW's first pilot effort for The Selection. She joins Peta Sergeant and Sean Patrick Thomas for the cast. Thoughts on the show's newest addition? Set 300 years in the future, an epic romance centering on a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 2 ...

Exclusive: In her first pilot season in the U.S., Israeli actress Yael Grobglas has landed one of the most sought-after roles for young actresses, the lead in the CW drama The Selection. They resulted in her booking America Singer. Warner Bros. TV is producing the pilot, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain based on Kiera Cass’ book. "In Living Color" star David Alan Grier will play Principal Carl Gaines in the CBS adaptation of Cameron Diaz's "Bad Teacher," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The single-camera comedy pilot is based on the 2011 movie, which starred Diaz as a gold-digging middle school teacher who slept through classes and cursed at her students in between hunting for a wealthy fiance.
The Principal character, played by John Michael Higgins in the Columbia Pictures film, is described as "sweet and well meaning but clueless."

It looks like only one member of the original pilot cast for The CW's television adaptation of Kiera Cass' The Selection will return, and it's Sean Patrick Thomas who gets the honor of another go at the series. Per Deadline, The Ringer star will reprise his original role as Sylvan Santos, royal adviser to the Queen and overseer of the Selection process wherein thirty-five girls compete for the affection of Prince Maxon and potentially the crown of Ilea. About the news, Thomas tweeted simply, "Showtime." Meanwhile, Aimee Teegarden is not expected to resume her role as America Singer as she moves on to the network's other new series Oxygen. The CW Network has now chosen a director to helm its all-new pilot effort for the small screen adaptation of Kiera Cass's The Selection. As reported in January, The CW made a rather unprecedented move by ordering a new script and pilot for the project after shooting an initial version last year featuring Aimee Teegarden in the lead as America Singer, a girl plucked from a lower caste of the futuristic North American nation to compete against thirty-four other young ladies for the heart of its Prince Maxon. While Teegarden is not expected to return for round two of the effort, per Deadline The CW moved forward with a new director to kick things off, and he's one with ample experience getting successful shows off the ground. 'The Selection' book trailer Alex Graves, who's also piloted Fringe, Terra Nova and 666 Park Avenue, will handle the fresh attempt...

Exclusive: The CW has set directors for three of its drama pilots. Alex Graves will direct and executive produce The Selection. Written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, Selection is based on the book by Kiera Cass. Set 300 years in the future, the epic romance centers on a working-class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. This marks the second Selection pilot ordered by the CW; the first one last season was directed by Mark Piznarski. Last year, Graves directed the pilot for ABC’s horror/mystery drama 666 Park Ave. He also helmed the pilot for Fox’s Fringe as virtually all of his pilots have gone to series. Additionally, Graves directed the two-hour opener of Fox’s Terra Nova. Another director whose pilot last season went to series, Bharat Nalluri,...

It's pilot season for television networks, and while the horror offerings thus far have been on the light side, in addition to the previously mentioned "The Sixth Gun" at NBC and "The Originals" at The CW, we have news on three more pilots we'll be keeping our eyes on.
Fox Television has greenlit a pilot featuring the legendary character Ichabod Crane, entitled, of course, "Sleepy Hollow". The series was created by Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci (writers of "Fringe," Transformers, and Star Trek) with Underworld director Len Wiseman on board to direct. 20th TV and Kurtz and Orci's studio-based K/O Paper Products are producing the show.
"Sleepy Hollow" is a supernatural thriller based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; however, it is set in modern times. The show follows Ichabod Crane, who partners with the local female sheriff of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mysteries of the town ravaged...

Pilot season is in full swing, and NBC continues to prove is commitment to finding new comedy gold, while The CW has its eye on dramatic fare. After a busy few days of TV pilot news at other networks, The CW picked up two new pilots today, including a revamped version of "The Selection," a futuristic romance that the network originally passed on last year. Set in a war-ravaged world three centuries from now, "Selection" centers on a young woman who competes for the title of queen of her battle-scarred realm. It's based on a series of books by Kiera Cass, and The CW...

The CW still wants its "Hunger Games."
The network has ordered -- or re-ordered, since it was also developed last year -- a pilot for "The Selection," a "Hunger Games"-esque drama based on novels by Kiera Cass. A pilot filmed last year didn't make the cut for this season, but The CW kept the rights and asked writers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain ("The Shield," "The Vampire Diaries") to retool the script.
"The Selection" is about a young woman chosen to take part in a competition to win the heart of a prince and become a war-torn country's next queen. Aimee Teegarden ("Friday Night Lights") played the part in last year's pilot.
More news from an extremely busy couple of days in pilot season:

The CW is taking another crack at its "Hunger Games"-esque drama project "The Selection," and has given a pilot order to "The Devil's Advocate" director Taylor Hackford's naval drama "Company Town," a spokesman for the network told TheWrap on Wednesday. Based on the Kiera Cass novel of the same name, "The Selection" -- which received a pilot order last year, but didn't go forward, follows a working-class young woman in a futuristic land who's chosen to participate in a lottery with 25 other women to compete for the Royal Prince's hand...

It’s a new twist in the odyssey of The CW’s Hunger Games-esque project The Selection.
The sci-fi fairy tale is getting another shot at a happy ending. After originally being developed for this season, receiving a pilot order last year, getting shelved and then being rewritten, The Selection has just received a greenlight for a second pilot. Based on a novel by Kiera Cass, The Selection was dubbed “The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor.” It’s the story of a young girl named America Singer (arguably an even lamer name than Katniss Everdeen) and is set in an impoverished post-apocalyptic North America.

The CW today got on the pilot board with its first orders, a Selection redo and Taylor Hackford’s Company Town. They join The Originals, the planted Vampire Diaries spinoff, which will air as an episode of the hit drama in April. The CW brass has been high on the concept for the Hunger Games-esque The Selection since the project was pitched in 2011. The network first ordered a pilot for the adaptation of the book by Kiera Cass last year. The project, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, didn’t make the cut to series, but the network kept it in redevelopment, ordering a new script from Craft and Fain. CW president Mark Pedowitz recently said that the network is quite happy with the duo’s new treatment, which is now getting a pilot green light. Set 300 years in the future, The Selection is described as an epic romance...

The network continues to want a Hunger Games-type drama on the air, picking up to pilot a retooled version of The Selection after passing on the pilot last year. With The Hunger Games books selling about a zillion copies and the movie franchise well on its way to becoming even bigger than Twilight, it stands to reason that a lot of folks in Hollywood are currently looking for their own way to capitalize on its popularity. Considering that the cult Japanese film Battle Royale is still compared to it quite frequently, a U.S. remake would seem like a no brainer. As it turns out, there has been one in the works since 2006, but the project has always attracted controversy and has been stuck in development hell for almost as long. Enter The CW, the TV network behind such shows as Gossip Girl and 90210. They are now suddenly interested in doing something a little different with Battle Royale. That is to say that they want to turn it into a teen-oriented TV series... because hey, that sounds a lot less controversial,...

The Television Critics Association's summer press tour is under way, and The CW's president Mark Pedowitz has shed more light on new projects "The Selection" and "Battle Royale" along with passing on some news that should make "Supernatural" fans happy.
First things first: Pedowitz said that Misha Collins (aka everyone's favorite angel Castiel) is signed for a minimum of eight episodes of "Supernatural" Season 8, which begins airing on Wednesday nights beginning October 3rd.
With regard to the cancelled Sarah Michelle Gellar series "Ringer", Pedowitz noted that “22 episodes a season may be too many” for a heavily serialized drama (the new CW series "Cult" will have a 13-episode first season), but keep the faith, "Buffy" fans; The CW has invited Gellar to come back to the network as an actress or producer.
