Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), July 11 (Ians) Veteran Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is poised to join Club Athletico Paranaense after parting ways with Brazilian top-flight rivals Flamengo, according to widespread media reports.
The 36-year-old is expected to participate in his first Paranaense training session this week after agreeing to personal terms and undergoing a medical, Globo Esport said on Monday.
Vidal, whose Flamengo contract had been due to expire in December, has been used sparingly since the arrival of Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli in April, reports Xinhua.
The former Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan player has made only 25 first-team appearances for the Rio de Janeiro outfit this year.
Having joined Flamengo on a free transfer last July, Vidal was a key member of the team that won the 2022 Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores titles.

Rio de Janeiro, June 15 (Ians) Eduardo Vargas extended his impressive Copa America scoring run with a second-half header that earned Chile a 1-1 draw with Argentina.
Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Stadium on Monday by curling a free-kick over the wall and into the top right corner just after the half-hour mark.
Argentina threatened to score again, laying siege to Claudio Bravo's goal, but the two-time world champions were unable to capitalise on their superiority, reports Xinhua.
Vargas made them pay when he nodded home in the 57th minute, reacting fastest after Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez kept out Arturo Vidal's spot-kick.
The Atletico Mineiro forward has now scored 13 Copa America goals and sits joint sixth on the tournament's list of all-time highest scorers.
"We lacked tranquility," Messi said after the match.

Rome, March 9 (Ians) Inter Milan has registered its seventh consecutive win in Serie A with a 1-0 home victory over Atalanta, a day before its 113th anniversary.
Inter entered the San Siro with six league wins in a row on Monday and had a full squad to choose from. Lautaro Martinez returned to the starting line-up to partner Romelu Lukaku up front, while Nicolo Barella pulled the string in the middle of the park.
Atalanta risked an own goal in the opening minutes as Cristian Romero's lofted back pass towards the goal cleared by goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with his header.
After a goalless first half, Inter made a tactic change by hauling off Arturo Vidal with Christian Eriksen, and the Dane made impact quickly as his corner in the 53rd minute created a chaos in the box, Milan Skriniar was alert to sweep in after a series of ricochets.

Barcelona, March 4 (Ians) Fc Barcelona overcame a 2-0 first-leg deficit to book their place in the final of Spain's Copa del Rey knockout competition with a 3-0 win over Sevilla after an enthralling and controversial game at the Camp Nou.
Pedri was a surprise starter for Barca just days after being diagnosed with a calf injury, while Tomas Vaclik returned in goal for Sevilla on Wednesday, Xinhua news reports.
Barca started strongly and Dembele sent two shots over the bar before opening the scoring in the 12th minute when he was allowed space to twist and turn before producing a powerful shot which left Vaclik rooted to the spot.
Sevilla were unable to string any passes together due to Barca's pressure and consequently, Barca continued to lay siege on the Sevilla goal.

Rome, March 1 (Ians) Inter Milan took a four-point lead at the top of the Serie A table with a 3-0 win over Genoa at the San Siro, with striker Romelu Lukaku taking the center-stage.
Inter entered Sunday's game with four consecutive Serie A wins. With Achraf Hakimi sitting out, Matteo Darmian stepped in as the right-winger, while Christian Eriksen was preferred over Arturo Vidal, Xinhua news reports.
It was the perfect start for the hosts, going ahead through a counterattack just 32 seconds into the game. Lukaku surged forward after a give-and-go with Lautaro Martinez and drilled home with his weaker right foot.
Inter then dominated the game and made it 2-0 in the 69th minute as Lukaku drew the defenders by faking a shot, and then assisted unmarked Darmian to find the net.
The home side sealed the win eight minutes later, Lukaku was involved again as the Belgian's attempt was blocked,...

Football Manager 2016 is due for release on November 15 and with 2015/16 season well underway (in real life) it’s time to think about who FM16 will select as their best players on the new game.
The beautifully-accurate football simulation doesn’t tend to get many things wrong therefore the players who make this list should be proud of their achievements and start to believe (if they don’t already) that they’re the finest footballers on the planet.
Last year’s top 15 list featured, Toni Kroos, Arturo Vidal, Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie yet due to the influx of talent currently on offer in world football, I have predicted that they will just miss out on this year’s list. Other big players such as Thomas Muller, Thiago Silva and Alexis Sanchez once again missed the cut although will still be key players on this year’s release.

There aren’t many players like Arturo Vidal.
Essentially, he covers the space from one 18-yard box to the other and whether it’s passing, tackling or shooting he can do everything. Vidal does it all. He can be detonated at any point during the 90 minutes and the effect is outrageous. Like a midfield powered-up Pac-Man he glides through midfield spaces, challenges for every loose ball and starts frequent fast-paced counter attacks. If you thought Bayern Munich had bought themselves a £26 million Bastian Schweinsteiger like-for-like replacement then you thought wrong…
Schweinsteiger was a man of leisure; he masterfully conducted Bayern’s midfield from the half way line, something he has done effortlessly throughout his career. Vidal doesn’t possess the same carefully aged skill-set but rather acts as a midfield hype man bouncing around the centre circle like a wound up racing duck toy.

Arsenal are set to move for Barcelona starlet Sergi Samper and will meet his £8.4 million buyout clause, according to Metro.
Mundo Deportivo reported that the midfielder could be Wenger’s second signing of the summer as he is a long way from breaking into Luis Enrique’s first team plans.
Players such as Cesc Fabregas, Jon Toral and Hector Bellerin have already made the move from Barcelona’s La Masia academy to North London.
Arsene Wenger has stated that he needs a potential successor to Mikel Arteta and after missing out on Arturo Vidal this week the 20-year-old could be a perfect fit.
Samper is seriously considering Arsenal’s offer, having grown frustrated playing for Barcelona’s B team but the Catalonia-based side would rather agree a loan deal.

Bayern Munich are set to sign Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal subject to a medical, according to Sky Sports.
The fee for the Chilean’s services is believed to be around £26 million with an additional £2 million offered in add-ons.
The player is expected to join up with the German Champions within the next week.
Vidal made 40 appearances for the Scudetto champions last season and scored 11 goals as well as helping his side to their first Champions League final since 2003.
The 28-year-old learned his trade in Germany where he made 117 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and mainly played as a defensive midfielder. This season Vidal has developed his attacking ability and was often used by Massimiliano Allegri in a more advanced role sitting just behind the strikers.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced the deal speaking at Bayern’s pre-season tour press conference in Guangzhou:

After last years double winning, Champions League runners-up season, Juventus are looking to rebuild their side. With Andrea Pirlo leaving for the Mls, Carlos Tevez returning to Boca Juniors and Arturo Vidal on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich, some new faces will need to arrive for Massimiliano Allegri’s team. Having already been linked with the likes of Chelsea’s Oscar and Bayern’s World Cup winning Mario Gotze in this transfer window, a summer of huge spending could be on the cards.
But enough about this transfer window, we want to take a look at previous windows and the players that have been linked with a move to the Serie A side.
The most successful club in Italian football have won 58 trophies over their 117 year history, whilst also having some of the biggest names in football wear that Notts County inspired kit.

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping their recent upturn in fortunes can continue when they travel to Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 tonight.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have returned to form in the Bundesliga by winning their last three games to climb to 12th in the table. Inexplicably, Der Bvb have spent the majority of the season in the Bundesliga’s relegation zone.
Despite this, they finished joint top of group D alongside Arsenal on 13 points, claiming first position on goal difference. They actually handed The Gunners one of the most comprehensive 2-0 defeats in the history of football.
The 2013 finalists face a stern challenge in getting past the Italian Giants and into the quarter-finals.
Juve have won the last three Serie A titles, and look set to make it four on the spin as they currently sit nine points ahead of second-place Roma.

Transfer news regarding Manchester United has died down in the hours that have passed since this morning’s announcement that the club have agreed a loan move for Monaco’s Radamel Falcao. Fans waiting for more additions to the side are still waiting as we enter the final four hours of transfer deadline day.
Defender-cum-midfielder Daley Blind will likely be unveiled as a United player alongside Falcao at some point this evening with only paperwork holding up Blind’s protracted transfer, but it is looking increasingly likely that the duo will be the final two signings heading to Old Trafford this summer.
United have already spent £131.7 million since last season, having brought in left-back Luke Shaw, midfielder Ander Herrera, centre-back Marcos Rojo and his Argentinian teammate Angel Di Maria, while the £7 million loan deal for Falcao and the £13.8 million capture of Blind will push manager Louis van Gaal...

With every summer, it is almost a procession as to what players Manchester United will poach from the smaller sides, but also what world-renowned superstar will be lured to the Theatre of Dreams. Such was the lure of Sir Alex Ferguson, and the promise of trophies, success and the potential to be remembered as the next Eric Cantona or Cristiano Ronaldo, it was never a hard task to persuade the world-class talent to sign over their futures to the rainy suburbs of Manchester.

Inter Milan have reportedly made their Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin available for transfer for £14 million.
The 51 cap man, who has been at the San Siro since 2012 – when he initially joined from Porto on loan before signing permanently for €11 million - is deemed surplus to requirements at the club and they are considering not even registering him for their Europa League squad.

With only two first team signings made this summer, Man Utd are in danger of starting from a defensive position, catching up on their closest rivals, even with a new era promised under Louis Van Gaal.
As things stand, Van Gaal will head into this season with largely the same first-team as faltered and floundered under David Moyes last year. Ander Herrera will strengthen the base of midfield, and Luke Shaw is a great long-term option at left-back, despite the manager expressing his concerns over the former Southampton prospect’s fitness, but that is not enough.
It’s good news then that United have launched a £55m bid for Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria, who is surplus to requirements in Madrid thanks to the arrivals of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez to the Spanish club. The Express have stated that Di Maria prefers...

Having endured something of a disappointing summer so far – at least in terms of transfers – some fans could have been forgiven for thinking that Man United were facing another summer of frustration after David Moyes’ much maligned transfer window last year, but it looks like the Red Devils have a number of irons in the fire.
Though talks of the Arturo Vidal signing has dried up somewhat, thanks to the player’s assumed commitment to staying in Italy for another year at least, Van Gaal has been linked with big moves for Kevin Strootman (though that is probably more likely in January), Ron Vlaar, Juan Cuadrado and Mats Hummels in the last couple of weeks of the transfer window at the least. When Louis Van Gaal took over at Manchester United, it was somewhat expected that the Dutchman would plunder his international squad to bring some of the best players to Old Trafford and kick off the rejuvenation project needed after last season’s disaster. Sadly for United fans, mooted moves for Arjen Robben, Ron Vlaar, Jordie Clasie and Memphis Depay have so far amounted to nothing.
But there may be cause for celebration in Manchester again as one of Holland’s most bruising enforcers is apparently in talks over a €10m move from AC Milan. That would represent a significantly impressive coup, considering De Jong’s pedigree, but it’s not surprising considering the state of Milan’s finances currently.
According to Goal, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward met with up with the defensive midfielder’s epresentatives in London yesterday to discuss a move.

Manchester United have launched a new club record bid to sign Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, as United boss Louis van Gaal looks to stamp his mark on his new club ahead of their league campaign this season.
The 13-time Premier League champions have made a bid of £47.5 million according to the Daily Star, which would trump the club record transfer fee of £37.5 million they paid for Juan Mata in January if Vidal does move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are thought to be offering to double Vidal’s current wages to entice the player to move to England, with his current £60,000-a-week earnings increasing to £120,000-a-week if he decides to switch to the club.

This summer is set to be a very exciting one for Manchester United fans, not only because of the arrival of charismatic new manager Louis van Gaal, but because he is set to lead the recruitment drive that United have needed since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009.
After enduring their worst ever Premier League campaign last season which culminated in a seventh placed finish, United are set for a summer of upheaval as first team players move through the door in both directions. Losing the experienced quartet of Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra from the first team over the summer so far means that United are going to need to add quality in several departments.
The main issue is the central midfield area, which has long been considered the weakness of the 13 time Premier League champions. Whilst Ander...

Juventus midfield maestro Arturo Vidal has become one of the summer’s top transfer targets following his impressive World Cup performance, and according to media speculation, both Liverpool and Manchester United are locked in a tug-of-war for the Chilean, as his current club stand firm over any potential move to the Premier League.
United have had transfer offers consistently rejected by the Old Lady, as Louis Van Gaal has looked to strengthen his side ahead of the new season, but Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool have attempted to sneak under the radar and nab Vidal from under the nose of the former champions. So where would he suit best?
Would he be adept to the attacking play which Liverpool adopted last season as Sterling, Sturridge and Gerrard tore up defences? Or would he be up for the challenge of being a part of Van Gaal...

With money in the bank and a new season approaching, Brendan Rodgers is looking for a way to capitalise upon the sale of Luis Suarez – including the reported bid to bring Loic Remy to Anfield from Qpr after Arsenal failed to match the Frenchman’s wage demands.
The club clearly feel the best way of investing their new found wealth is to sneak under the noses of their biggest rivals to steal two of their top transfer targets. Manchester United have been linked with moves for the Juventus pairing of Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, but rumours have now surfaced that Liverpool could put in a bid for both players. With around £75million in the bank, Rodgers has a transfer sword to wield in order to boost his sides chances of challenging for the Premier League title.

Despite yesterday’s news that Louis Van Gaal was calling off his move for Arturo Vidal over a difference of opinion on Juventus’ £32m valuation of the Chile midfielder, news has landed today that the Manchester club have been handed a boost in their continued efforts to sign him following the resignation of Bianconeri boss Antonio Conte.
Conte has terminated his contract with the Italian champions after three years, and made the announcement on the club’s official website:
“I have decided to terminate my contract with Juventus. I have matured with time and my feelings led me to make this choice. It may be more difficult to keep winning with Juventus.
“An enormous thank you for what you have given to me as a player and as a coach. I have always been close to you. I want to say that the journey...

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal may have been somewhat occupied this summer, masterminding the Netherlands’s run to the World Cup semi-final and helping them finish 3rd, but he’s still ensured United have remained competitive in the transfer window back home, sanctioning the £60 million double swoop for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera.
And, now that van Gaal’s commitments to the Dutch national side are at an end, his next task will be to bring yet more players in at Old Trafford as he looks to rebuild the Red Devils following a bitterly disappointing season under David Moyes that saw the side finish seventh.
According to reports, United are looking into the possibility of signing Juventus’s all-purpose midfielder Arturo Vidal, who impressed at the World Cup finals with Chile. A £40 million bid is apparently in the offering, while van Gaal...
