Candy Land Blu-ray from Mvd

Death Head #1
Writer: Zack Keller, Nick Keller
Artist: Joanna Estep
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $4
Description: When Niles and Justine Burton go camping to get a break from their stressful lives, they expect to find peace . . . not an abandoned village hiding an ancient evil. In a turn of events ripped straight from a horror movie, a brutal killer wearing a plague doctor’s mask begins hunting Niles, Justine, and their two kids.
Our Take: As a new horror title, there’s many things to praise about Death Head: it has a suitably cool antagonist, a genuine sense of terror and a complex but intriguing narrative. On the other hand, the characters often feel flat and forced, given so little time to develop that they feel like parodies of the people they’re supposed to be. By starting so many stories in a single issue, the writers...

Godzilla in Hell #1
Written/drawn by James Stokoe
Published by Idw
Since the first appearance of Godzilla in Toho’s 1954 film of the same name, the King of Monsters has battled everything from robotic constructs like Mechagodzilla to a giant moth (Mothra), smog monster (Hedorah), and even a creature (Destoroyah) derived from the oxygen destroyer weapon used to defeat him in the original movie. The giant, nuclear-flame breathing dinosaur has faced very few challenges that he could not stomp his way over or bulldoze his way through, the 1998 film adaptation notwithstanding. But, one must wonder, how would Godzilla fare in Dante’s vision of Hell? Thankfully, in Godzilla in Hell, Idw seeks to answer that question.
The book begins with Godzilla plummeting into the “bottomless pit” of Hell. Godzilla is a gigantic beast capable of flattening skyscrapers, yet he is dwarfed by the size of the vast chasm that he falls down into.

Legends of the Geomancer #1 Review
I loved this so much.
Damn, I’ve missed me some Fred Van Lente pacing. I’ve been enjoying the hell out of Valiant comics who has had talent like Jeff Lemire, Joshua Dysart, and Matt Kindt writing a stable of books that are among the best of the year, especially when considering Kindt’s and Trevor Hairsine’s Divinity, but where books that trio are helming are often grimdarkish looks at the Valiant present and future, Van Lente be the perfect choice to helm what is a bit of an odd project in Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer, because of his cynic-proof style of storytelling that Archer & Armstrong fans have had to miss in the Valiant universe.
And he was. And we did.
We are introduced to intrusions upon the earth. Clad in the bones of former life, painted white faces riding...

This July, Marvel will celebrate their 75th anniversary by celebrating their fictional 100th anniversary. It'll basciaclly be a series of "what if" stories set in 2061, showing where the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy (Andy Lanning and Ron Marz with art from Gustavo Duarte), Spider-Man (written by Sean Ryan with the artwork and cover by In-Hyuk Lee), X-Men (by Robin Furth with art by Jason Masters), the Avengers (James Stokoe pulling triple duty as writer, artist and cover artist), and the Fantastic Four (Jen Van Meter and artist Joanna Estep) will be 100 years after the creation of the modern Marvel age. Silly idea? Maybe -- but there's no denying how awesome these interlocking covers are! [Click on the image for a larger look]...

For the second trip back to the world of outdated video formats and found footage shorts, the folks behind "V/H/S/2" assembled a team of seriously talented directors to create segments for the anthology series, included the director of the amazing "The Raid: Redemption," Gareth Evans.
Evans' segment, which he co-directed with Timo Tjahjanto, is called "Safe Haven," and the trailer gave us the sense that they mean that ironically, since it involves a bunch of men shooting themselves in the head simultaneously. Plus, there was that exploding guy.
Anyway, MTV Movies blog is pleased to bring you an exclusive poster from artist James Stokoe that plays off some of the imagery from "Safe Haven." Check out the full poster after the jump!
"V/H/S/2" is available on VOD today!

The Tumblr round-up is a compilation of images, links, posters, stories, videos and so on, taken from the Sound On Sight Tumblr account. We simply do not have the man power nor time to write articles on every interesting movie related goody we find, so this is our way of still promoting some of the stuff we love.

Helmed by a who’s-who of current genre filmmakers, V/H/S is delivered with a good sense of playfulness, while still finding time to effectively deliver the thrills and scares. The upcoming horror anthology film features five stories plus a wraparound tale, all presented in the “found footage” style. In anticipation of its release, Magnet Releasing has created a gallery of posters for each of the movie’s five chapters. Moviefone premiered the final poster this week.

We’ve been covering some of the comic posters released for each V/H/S segments and we now have all five for you to check out. We also have details on an upcoming Twitter interview that Daily Dead readers can take part in.
“When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.”

The upcoming "V/H/S" is one of the scariest horror movies we've seen in recent years. Somewhere between "The Blair Witch Project" and "Creepshow," the film is done up as an anthology of found-footage tapes, as a group of low-rent thieves get hired to break into a decrepit house and steal a mysterious old VHS. With no additional clues beyond "you'll know it when you see it," they're forced to go through thousands of unmarked videos, which reveal a nightmarish gallery of killers, ghosts, demons and a whole lot more we don't want to spoil for you. To give you a taste of what's in store, Magnet Releasing has created a series of unique posters for each segment in "V/H/S", done by some of the best comic book artists working today. Here, Moviefone is premiering the final poster, which highlights the slasher-in-the-woods story "Tuesday the 17th." (Click...

Watch a new clip from Magnolia's super-scary V/H/S, starring Calvin Reeder, Lane Hughes, Adam Wingard and Hannah Fierman. Also, we've got James Stokoe's comic artwork included below, which is quite...different should I say. V/H/S is a Pov, found footage horror film from the perspective of America's top genre filmmakers. In the film, a group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger and more inexplicable than the last... V/H/S is available on demand Now, but if you're keen to catch the R-rated film in theaters rather, for that bigscreen scare thrill, then you'd have to wait until October 5th.

If the superhero genre could get an all-star movie like "The Avengers," it's only fair that horror get the same treatment. Thankfully, that's exactly what "V/H/S" is.
A team of the genre's most exciting up-and-coming directors teamed up for a six-part found footage anthology that scared the crap out of everyone at Sundance in January, and now "V/H/S" is available On Demand today (August 30).
To celebrate the premiere of "V/H/S," we have an exclusive image from artist James Stokoe that was inspired by the film.

While we eagerly await more news on Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, we'll have to sate our appetite for destruction, Big G-style, with Idw's line of Godzilla comics. I never really thought the Godzilla comics worked, however, next week's release - "The Half-Century War" - looks...awesome.
The five-part mini-series was previewed at io9 and we have a peek within.
The publisher describes the tale - from James Stokoe and Orc Stain - lilke this: The year is 1954 and Lieutnant Ota Murakami is on hand when Godzilla makes first landfall in Japan. Along with his pal Kentaro, Ota makes a desperate gamble to save lives...and in the process begins an obsession with the King of the Monsters that lasts fifty years! Don't miss the first decade in a tale of a lifetime!
