I loved the first issue of the new story arc that we saw last time round. Ticked quite a few boxes for me. We got some period adventure, which is always nice. We learnt something new, again, very nice. Some spotlight time on Inspector Nightingale, which is long overdue. And a very good storyline, which of course for Rivers of London is what we expect for a minimum. That storyline, if you need your memory jogged at all, went back to a wartime friendship, a present day funeral, and a serial killer case in the 1950′s. A wartime friend, Angus Strallen, had approached Nightingale to help capture Professor Uwe Fischer. Not only was he a serial killer, he seemed to be using dark magic too.
So, a story about a serial killer of young women, all a bit...

Well, well, well, what’s this then? A Doctor Who story not wrapped up in one or two issues. Is that allowed? No complaints from me of course, as I’ve been enjoying The Wolves of Winter hugely. What’s not to like. Vikings, Ice Warriors from Mars, a sentient water virus called The Flood, a mysterious lurking alien, and of course lovely, lovely Bill. Oh yes, and The Doctor himself, mustn’t forget the star turn after all. The Flood is that bad that The Doctor manages to get the Vikings and Ice Warriors to team up against it, which they do with a little success, but that mainly helps to buy The Doctor time. He senses there is something else at play here, and we’ve waited long enough to see what, or who, that is…...

"...new companion 'Bill Potts' has joined the 'Twelfth Doctor' on a brand-new adventure, taking them to an island in the Atlantic in the 9th century.
"Caught in the middle of a stand-off between a group of 'Vikings' and 'Ice Warriors', Bill and the Doctor had to ensure the battling forces united against an even greater threat -- a sentient Flood.

Now a month has gone by I have sufficiently recovered from the excitement of seeing Bill Potts arrival as The Doctor’s comic book companion. It seems TV show wise we won’t see much more of Bill, so it’s nice that the character has a nice clean slate to fill up in terms of comic book stories. This first arc, ‘The Wolves of Winter’ by Richard Dinnick and Brian Williamson, was none too shabby either, a great start for a great partnership. I’m talking of course about The Doctor and Bill, but could just as easily be talking about Dinnick and Williamson if they keep this standard up.
Last issue saw us arrive in the Ninth Century, and an encounter with some Vikings carrying a mysterious treasure. The Vikings think The Doctor a god of some sort,...

It’s Bill. Bill who? Bill Potts. You know the one, the girl with the boy’s name who The Doctor met at the University he was teaching at. Bill makes her comic book debut somewhat ironically this issue just as we saw her and The Twelfth Doctor’s final adventure screen on TV last week. The TV show helped us see how their relationship began, and how it seemingly ended, this book will help us see what great adventures they had in between. The cover this issue, by Claudia Ianniciello, of The Doctor and Bill is an absolute stunner too, capturing likenesses and personality in one painted picture to perfection.
The Wolves of Winter arc takes us off to the Ninth Century Atlantic Ocean, and a Viking ship carrying a mysterious treasure to a mysterious place. Colour me intrigued.

An intense modern iteration of the titular ocean predator, which debuted in legendary British comic (and forerunner to 2000Ad) Action #1. Initially inspired by the success of the film, Jaws, Hook Jaw was one of many Action strips so violent it was banned from the shelves upon release – but now Hook Jaw is back in a new mini series thanks the folks at Titan Comics!
The debut issue of this five issue mini-series is written by comics fire-cracker Si Spurrier (Cry Havoc, Weavers, Doctor Who, Numbercruncher) and illustrated by rising star Conor Boyle, with colors by Giulia Brusco and edited by legendary British comics editor and marine life expert artist, Steve White.
In the troubled waters off Somalia, a rag-tag group of marine scientists studying a pack of female great white sharks find themselves caught in a conflict between pirates and the might of the Us Navy. But why is the...

Reading this book so far has been like soaking in a warm bath of nostalgia, Rennie and Beeby not only capturing the Tom Baker Doctor at his peak, but also throwing him and Sarah Jane into an adventure that is just typical of the type he could pitch up in in those old 70′s TV episodes. Last issue of course saw an attempted rescue of Sarah Jane, held by Lady Emily Carstairs, by The Doctor, the wonderfully named Professor Odysseus James, and his daughter Athena, that didn’t go entirely to plan. Thanks to the Lamp of Chronos, which can open up portals in time and space, the Professor and Sarah Jane were thrown back in time, leaving The Doctor and Athena (who would make a pretty kick-ass companion herself by the way...

Until reading last issue featuring the iconic Tom Baker Fourth Doctor, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the character in comic book form. I was an avid reader of the Dr Who Marvel Comics which featured his incarnation back in the day, and it was a delight to read a new adventure. It was an excellent first issue, the highlight being the excellent capture of the personalities Of The Doctor and Sarah Jane, and especially their relationship. The story, which played out nicely like an old episode of the show, saw them pitch up in Victorian London where people have been mysteriously disappearing. Teaming up with Professor Odysseus James and his daughter Athena they discover alien involvement and the mysterious Lady Emily, who kidnaps Sarah Jane to show her a stone statue of…...

If you asked the average long time Doctor Who fan, not the real fanatics of course who dissect the minutiae of every appearance and adventure, who they think of when they think of The Doctor and I’d wager the majority would say Tom Baker’s Doctor. I think it’s fair to say Tom Baker elevated The Doctor to a new level when he played The Doctor in the 1970′s, managing to outshine even Jon Pertwee’s fantastic third incarnation (still my personal favourite, though growing up in the 1970′s Tom Baker was ‘my’ Doctor). The Fourth Doctor also has a long history in comic book form, having had comic strips featuring himself in many countries, not least a Marvel Comics series. His return to an ongoing comic is long overdue, and...

Titan Comics and BBC Worldwide have today announced a brand-new mini series starring the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith, as played by Tom Baker and the late Elisabeth Sladen. Entitled Gaze Of The Medusa, the five-part series will hit stores in March 2016 and will be penned by Gordon Rennie (Missionary Man, Judge Dredd) and Emma Beeby (Witch Hunter, Judge Dredd) with art by Brian Williamson (The Twelfth Doctor, Spider-Man, X-Men).
The all-new adventure is set in Victorian England, where a mysterious woman commands a hidden army in a house of the blind. Scryclops stalk the streets…and something alien and terrible screams from prehistory – with a hunger that cannot be satisfied!
This series expands Titan Comics’ hugely popular and critically acclaimed Doctor Who comics line, which already includes adventures from the Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors. Issue #1 will come with six covers to collect: a painted cover by fan-favorite artist Alice X.

Before getting into the actual review, can I say how refreshing it is that Titan Comics are making this series accessible, by having the first page devoted to a quick reminder of who the main players are, and a ‘Previously’ recap of previous issues to get any new readers up to speed. This being the third part of a 3-part story, this is a simple way to tell new readers you want to welcome, and keep, them, but not practiced by nearly enough publishers anymore. It also motivates those readers to seek out the previous parts of the story. But I digress…
As mentioned above, this is the final part of a 3 part story, The Fractures, that follows a scientist from an alternate reality who has jumped over to our reality where his family are still alive (his...
