Nothing gives us greater satisfaction here at ScreenAnarchy than championing the master filmmakers of tomorrow, the unsung artists and heroes whose work is still finding its way into the public consciousness. The Dream Eater, as our headline reads, is a psychotronic short film project that brings together the creative minds behind some of our favourite shorts of recent years, including Yellow, Abdullah, Tokophobia and To My Mother And Father. It tells the story of a young man who discovers a jar of magic beans, leading to a mind-bending nightmare of untold proportions through unfathomable dimensions. The film is the brainchild of Antoni Maiovvi, the British composer, DJ and producer whose unique musical stylings can be heard on, among other things, the score of...

The Three Sisters (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Repeated ViewingWhile we wait for Dáire McNab’s The Three Sisters to be released in the States, the soundtrack has been released via CD & Digital Format earlier this month. For fans of Italian Giallo music, this is one of the few “retro” soundtracks that captures the mood correctly.
The music was performed by Repeated Viewing, which is Scottish composer Alan Sinclair. The soundtrack was put out by Wil-Ru Records and can be found here to buy directly or via their bandcamp site. Also on this soundtrack are bonus remixes which includes mixes by Antoni Maiovvi and Vercetti Technicolor (of Giallo Disco Records), Umberto and Night Sequels (of Attacknine Records).
Written and directed by Dáire McNab, The Three Sisters stars Elliot Moriarty, Gillian Walsh and Neill Fleming, with special guest star Giovanni Lombardo Radice (aka John Morghen), star of cult classics Cannibal Ferox,...

The electronic revival is real, and it’s real good. From Steve Moore (Zombie, The Guest, Cub) to Jonathan Snipes (Starry Eyes, Room 237), to Jeff Grace (Cold in July) to the Giallo Disco crew like Antoni Maiovvi and Vercetti Technicolor, traditional string stings aren’t as prevalent. The latest, tremendous example is Disasterpeace’s terrific It Follows score, the…

Music collectors around the world are probably familiar with Record Store Day, an annual event celebrating independently owned and operated music retailers (a rare thing nowadays), which this year falls on April 20th. Store owners, bands, labels and fans across the globe mark the date, often releasing limited editions of new, classic or rare albums, most available only at indie record stores while supplies last. This year, UK label Death Waltz is unveiling some ultra-cool short run album pressings for the event that should have horror music fans drooling. Fans of the documentary Horror Business will dig this exclusive release of that film's score by Steve Moore of retro prog-rock unit Zombi, which could easily be mistaken for a lost Goblin or Fabio Frizzi score. Also on the list includes Antoni Maiovvi's score from Yellow, a short film homage to Italian giallo flicks of the '70s and '80s.

The giallo is strong with this one. Director Ryan Haysom and cinematographer Jon Britt enjoyed a great year in 2012, with their neo-giallo serial killer short Yellow proving something of a festival darling around the world. I was able to catch it at London's Film4 FrightFest last August, and the film does a masterful job of recapturing the look and feel of classic Italian sleaze and horror. Those skills are again on display in Haysom and Britt's latest project, co-directed with Tj Lee - a music video for Antoni Maiovvi's "Darkroom," from the Ep "Stockholm Synthdrone." Maiovvi (real name Anton Maiof) cites the likes of Goblin, Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter among his influences, so this seems like a perfect fit. You can check out the...
