Zombies once again dominated the genre landscape in all forms of media this year, with The Walking Dead gobbling up ratings on TV and Warm Bodies topping the charts at the box office. In video game land, 2013 saw the release of The Last of Us, which FEARnet's own Carl Lyon just crowned one of the best horror-inspired video games of the year. In the gory and grotesque game, zombies have taken over, and a badass dude is tasked with protecting a young girl, both of them fighting for survival in a quickly collapsing world. To say that Carl's not alone in his opinion of the game would be an understatement, to say the least.
YouTuber Brian Anderson is one of those fans who wholeheartedly agrees with Carl's assessment, and he's just shown off his love for the game in a pretty unique, and totally awesome way. I'm not sure how it happened,...

Upon its release three years ago, Konami's epic horror-fantasy game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (check out Carl Lyon's game review here) received acclaim for its sweeping symphonic score by Spanish composer Óscar Araujo, whose previous horror/fantasy game credits include high-profile titles like Blade of Darkness and Clive Barker's Jericho. Araujos' work on Lords of Shadow won him the “Best Original Score for a Video Game” Award from the International Film Music Critics Association in 2011, and he was subsequently hired to score Lords of Shadow 2, set to drop next February. The original Us release of the Lords of Shadow soundtrack CD was included as a bonus disc in the Collector's Edition of the game, but serious horror soundtrack junkies will be stoked to get their hands on the recently-released Ultimate Edition album, which includes additional content and new arrangements taken from the 120-plus music cues Araujo originally recorded.

If you haven't read Carl Lyon's review of Acw Games' Zombie Squash for iOS, be sure to check it out now (don't worry, we'll wait), because if the mere mention of horror legend George A. Romero, a carrot-shooting bunny and undead garden spawn doesn't get you at least a little bit excited, you just might be a zombie yourself. Along with the voice talents of Romero – the Godfather of the Living Dead – in the wacky role of mad scientist “Dr. B.E.Vil,” another major highlight is the rowdy metal score by Roy Z – a multi-talented musician and producer whose magic touch has graced releases by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, Sepultura and Sebastian Bach. Roy handles multiple music duties on this project, including all guitars, bass and keyboards, with most of the rhythms supplied by Dave Moreno, Roy's bandmate in Latin-infused hard rock unit Tribe of Gypsies.
