For nearly a decade now, Israel Skelton has helped bring stories to life with the amazingly detailed replicas released by Skelton Crew Studio. From the works of Joe Hill to the enthralling tales of the Hellboy universe, Skelton and a talented team of artists have meticulously made these creative worlds come alive, and we had the great pleasure of catching up with Israel in our latest Q&A feature to discuss his unique line of collectibles, how he met Joe Hill, and much more.

Indian Summer, autumn’s first batch of orange-hued fallen leaves and New York Comic Con have all tumbled away, relegated to that odd intersection of fond memories and the comfortable knowledge of their inevitable return. The New York Comic Con, now the nation’s largest geek culture convention, seems to change each year. And after more than a decade of growth, it’s changing in many weird and wonderful ways.
I’ve been there from the beginning and, during the early years worked, on the show. We had a vision for the convention and it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. And in many ways … it hasn’t.
The Big Picture
Each year on Thursday afternoon as the New York Comic Con bursts to life, ICV2’s Milton Greipp gathers industry leaders together to review the state of geek culture.
Comic Convention expert Rob Salkowitz was one speaker who addressed this business gathering.

The New York Comic Con is upon us once again, and I can’t wait. This year, as usual, I have a massive list of things I want to see, people I want to talk to, and, of course, merchandise I want to take a gander at (not to buy it, of course. Oh no no no! Certainly not, considering I have way too many collectibles already. I’m just going to look. Really. Just…you know, a little bit. No buying here, nosiree…um). There are also a few cool parties floating around…and you know how I love a good party.
Everyone who goes to Nycc has their own unique wish list of what they want to experience while there. But in case you aren’t sure what you want to see first, here are some of the things I’m most looking forward to. Maybe they’ll appeal to you,...

Like the Crypt-Keeper of EC Comic’s Tales from the Crypt, Uncle Creepy is a horror host of the paneled page, appearing in the original Creepy comic book series that ran from 1964 to 1983 and its relaunch by Dark Horse that began in 2009. Now the 50th anniversary of Uncle Creepy and his series’ first printing by Warren Publishing is creeping up on readers, and we have a look at the celebratory issue.
Creepy #18, the golden anniversary issue of the series, will hit comic book store shelves on October 8th. We have more details and a look at the issue below:

Dark Horse, the elder statesman of independent comics, continues to show no signs of slowing down during this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Even though Marvel now holds the rights to Star Wars, its biggest licensed comics property, Dark Horse struck back by announcing a several creator owned titles in different genres as well as an expansion to the Mignolaverse and a sequel to one of the most beloved novels of the past century. Dark Horse also won some Eisners in a wide variety of categories showing the company’s comics appeal to many types of readers from kids to people who wouldn’t normally read comics.
1. Hellboy and the Bprd Miniseries
Even though Batman has gotten most of the publicity, another comics character is celebrating a big anniversary. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Hellboy’s first appearance in the Seed of Destruction miniseries by Mike Mignola and scripted by John Byrne.

Li’l Battlestar Galactica
Written by Art Baltazar and Franco
Art by Franco
Published by Dynamite Comics
After their well-received work on Tiny Titans and Itty Bitty Hellboy, Art Baltazar and Franco join forces to tell another all-ages tale in the Battlestar Galactica universe. Li’l Battlestar Galactica mixes elements of the original 1978 show, like the costumes, design for the Cylons, and opening narration, with a few elements of the 2004 show, like Starbuck being female. There are some callbacks to the show, but most of the humor comes from the art, character dialogue, and sound effects. However, Li’l Battlestar Galactica does an excellent job setting up a premise of the show and introducing new fans to these characters. It has a simple, action-packed plot mixed with plenty of laughs and is an entertaining read for diehard fans of the original show or kids who weren’t even born when the 2004 re-imagining came out.

So Infinity (w. Jonathan Hickman a. Jim Cheung, Dustin Weaver) concluded what’s been an interesting if not exactly mind-blowing run. The Avengers return to earth to sort out Thanos and his nasty mates, Maximus of the Inhumans cracks wise and saves the world and Rocket Raccoon makes an all-too brief (like, one panel appearance). The main point of the event seems to have been to launch the Inhumanity series – which to be fair, does look kind of interesting – but beyond that, I’m not sure what we’ve learnt. None of the characters seem to have radically changed from what I, as a pretty casual Marvel reader, understand to be their default personality setting to be. What happens to Thanos (and I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that yes, something happens to the primary antagonist in the last issue of a comic book series) is cool,...

Itty Bitty Hellboy #1 (of 5)
Written By:Art Baltazar, Franco
Illustrated by : Art Baltazar
Cover Art By:Art Baltazar
Itty Bitty Hellboy is the newest creation from Art and Fraco, originators of the very similar Tiny Titans and Superman Family Adventures series. Inspired my Mike Mignola’s desire to have child appropriate items to sell at his many annual comic conventions, Itty Bitty Hellboy trades in most of the street grit that has become a Mignola standard over the past 20 years and replaces it with a childlike mischievous spirit complete with practical jokes and refrigerator boxes.
Set in Suburbia, America, the miniaturized versions of these fan favorite characters are intended for young readers and make Hellboy accessible to the portion of our population not yet acquainted with the adult notions of war, Nazis, or the many other worldly issues which exist outside their sandbox.

According to Robot 6 and a few other comic blogs Paul Pope pitched an all ages Kamandi series to DC. Upon hearing it, supposedly, DC responded “You think this is gonna be for kids? Stop, stop. We don’t publish comics for kids. We publish comics for 45-year olds. If you want to do comics for kids, you can do Scooby-Doo. Well, I don’t know how true that is, but it certainly brings a few thoughts to mind.
Let’s say that the statement was in fact true. We don’t actually know the context in which it was said. I’ll assume Pope can tell sarcasm apart from snark. So, if DC actually had the balls to be so rude to such a great talent, they’ll deserve the continued flack they seem to be gunning for on what feels like a daily basis. There’s so many things wrong with what they said…...

About Itty Bitty Hellboy
Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani have created quite a stir with their work on some of the most fun and ageless comics of all time. Now, this dynamic duo takes on Dark Horse’s best-known character, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, in an all-new comics series, Itty Bitty Hellboy.
A ghost named Rasputin has been spotted. And Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. are going to find out what’s he up to. Who is Hellboy, anyway? Why does he have such a big hand, and what is it used for? Who’s weirder, he or his friends? What is the B.P.R.D.? And what does...
