Morgan Freeman is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood. In his career, which has spanned nearly six decades, the actor has rightly earned a reputation for being one of the best in the business.
The Unforgiven actor has teamed up with an assortment of other artists, but his work with Jim Carrey was very special. Carrey himself is regarded as one of the most versatile actors. From comedic performances in films like The Mask, to a poignant one in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, his talent is limitless. Unsurprisingly, if Freeman got a chance to work with Carrey again, he would agree to it in a heartbeat.

The film industry was very different in the early 2000s than it is now. It was a period when franchise films were still relatively rare. And the box office was dominated by A-list stars who could draw audiences to theaters based solely on their names. As one of the biggest stars of the time, Jim Carrey also enjoyed great success with his 2003 flick, Bruce Almighty.
What distinguished Tom Shadyac’s film from most of the Carrey films that came before it was that the actor was not the only humorous element in the story. He has many of the funniest scenes with his co-star Morgan Freeman, who played the ‘God’ in the movie.
In an interview with the BBC, the Canadian-born actor admitted to feeling intimidated by Freeman. Carrey truly believed that everyone in the film industry was hesitant to work with the Oscar-winning star.

Just when you think you’ve seen every 1980s slasher flick, Vinegar Syndrome humbles you by unearthing yet another low-budget horror film lost in time and space, this time with 1984’s Fatal Games (originally titled The Killing Touch).
Fatal Games is the story of Olympic-hopeful medalists being systematically picked off one-by-one at the Falcon Academy, the main setting for the film’s events. Each time one of the characters has been nixed, the killer scratches out their likeness from a group photo containing the academy’s pool of victims.
If you think this sounds similar to 1981’s Graduation Day, you would be on the right track. Director Michael Elliot, who also stars in his film as Dr. Jordine, builds onto the foundation of Graduation Day to create his own ’80s horror film. In between the killings, we are treated to some detailed character development storylines including the trials and tribulations of being a young athlete,...

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It has been revealed that Jim Carrey’s hit 2003 film Bruce Almighty almost had two sequels.
Screenwriters Steve Koren and Mark O’Keefe shared their plans for Brucifer, a Bruce Almighty sequel that would’ve found Carrey’s character gaining the powers of a devil instead of God.
In the original film, Carrey plays the role of Bruce Nolan, a television reporter who complains to God that he is not doing his job correctly and is offered the chance to try being God himself for one week.
“[Carrey’s] manager and him wanted to do Brucifer,” Koren told Syfy. “We went in and pitched it, but it never quite worked out, because it was later on… It would have been another giant movie and I don’t think they wanted to do it. It just didn’t work out for some reason, but a lot of people loved it, including Jim.”

“Bruce Almighty” remains one of Jim Carrey’s biggest hits with 484 million at the worldwide box office, so it’s no wonder co-screenwriters Steve Koren and Mark O’Keefe cracked an idea for a sequel that would bring back Carrey’s Bruce Nolan. In a recent interview with Syfy, Koren and O’Keefe revealed their plans for “Brucifer,” a “Bruce Almighty” sequel that would’ve found Carrey’s character gaining the powers of Satan instead of God.
In “Bruce Almighty,” Carrey played a stressed news reporter who gains the powers of God (played by Morgan Freeman). Bruce’s newfound omnipotence complicates his relationship with girlfriend Grace (Aniston). Koren and O’Keefe said they pitched the sequel, “Brucifer,” to producer Michael Bostick on the night “Bruce Almighty” opened in theaters in May 2003.

2003’s Bruce Almighty was such a smash hit that it got its inevitable sequel, Evan Almighty, in 2007, albeit without Jim Carrey. But it almost played out differently, with Jim Carrey reprising his role–but instead of playing God, he would be granted the powers of Satan.
The sequel, which would have been titled Brucifer, was something Jim Carrey was highly interested in but it didn’t get as far as intended. According to co-writer Steve Koren, “We went in and pitched it, but it never quite worked out, because it was later on…It would have been another giant movie and I don’t think they wanted to do it. Gene Lebell, who had an acting and stunt career that stretched from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet to 24 and who the WWE called today “a towering figure in the world of martial arts,” has died. He was 89.
Lebell reportedly had more than 1,000 TV and movie credits, mostly as a stuntman, but also as a heavy, often a fight referee and sometimes a colorful background character. Dubbed “The Godfather of Grappling,” he faced off onscreen against Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Bruce Lee. He refereed Muhammad Ali’s infamous fight against Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki. Holding a 10th degree red belt in Judo and a 9th degree black belt in Ju-jitsu, helped train everyone from Lee to Norris to “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Ronda Rousey.
“Gene was the guy who taught Bruce Lee about grappling,” according to comedian, podcaster and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan.

Will the movies ever let religion back into the mainstream? It doesn’t seem likely, given the secular bent of most critics, festivals, and film awards. But the question could certainly occur to any thoughtful viewer of Marco Pontecorvo’s Fátima, which is set for release by Picturehouse in theaters and via PVOD on Aug. 28.
The film, which has been shown in pop-up previews for the last few weeks, is about the heavenly visions of three young children, who in 1917 said they encountered the Blessed Virgin Mary in a field near Fátima, Portugal. Believers flocked to the site. There may have been miracles. And Mary, said the children, confided three “secrets,” which became the core of an enduring Catholic cult that eventually found of the two young people, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, canonized as saints following their deaths in the 1918 flu pandemic, and made the third, Lùcia dos Santos, a...

The Mask, Bruce Almighty and The Truman Show star recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote it and explained the surprising origins of the book’s cover.

Steve Carell’s career-making turn as the Jim Carrey-cursed news anchor Evan Baxter in “Bruce Almighty” made him the hottest breakout star in Hollywood. And “hot” is what his performance was — literally — because his head was set on fire to kick up the action in that showstopping scene.
“That was basically the first time I was ever in a movie,” Carell said on “The Graham Norton Show” of his short but memorable role in “Bruce Almighty.” “The part they cut out is when Jim Carrey makes my nose start to bleed profusely, which they thought [was] too mean of him to do as a character… and then my head burst into flames.”
In the film, Carrey plays Bruce Nolan, a TV field reporter with ambitions of becoming a news anchor. After God bestows him divine powers, Bruce manipulates poor Evan during a live broadcast, making him act like a total idiot in the process.

In the era of #MeToo, in which women are finally being given a voice against sexual predators, a movie about a false rape accusation feels like a tough sell. Brian Banks is an earnestly told true story of criminal injustice focusing on Banks (a terrific Aldis Hodge in a bust-out performance), a junior at Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California, who’s headed to USC on a scholarship and a future NFL career as a linebacker. That future evaporates when Banks is wrongly accused of sexual assault by fellow...

When it comes to pop stardom, hits only get you so far if you don’t have an easily recognizable look. At the first date of Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour in Albany on March 18th, it was clear that she has this part of the job covered. Never before has there been a higher concentration of high ponytails in one room. Nor was there any shortage of thigh-high suede boots, sparkly cat ear headbands or oversized sweaters. This was an Ariana Grande concert, after all. How else was one supposed to dress?...

Jim Carrey has made more headlines of late for his unflattering paintings of Donald Trump than he has for his movies, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped acting. The two-time Golden Globe winner will return to the screen as the villainous Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie.
Though best known for his comedies and occasional dramatic turns (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), Carrey has also portrayed his share of darker characters: “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” found him playing the devious Count Olaf, and “The Cable Guy” showed how quickly laughter can turn into screams.
Familiar to anyone who had a Sega Genesis in the early ’90s, Robotnik is distinguished by his rotund frame and large mustache; Carrey in costume will surely be a sight to behold. Jeff Fowler is directing the adaptation of the famed video game, which will blend...

The thrill is gone. After more than four decades and nine releases, the “Star Wars” franchise has come a cropper with an $83 million opening-weekend estimate, with Memorial Day four-day figures likely to top $100 million. Granted, that’s a better take for the holiday than any release since 2014. But since when has “Star Wars” releases needed recent comparisons on the second-biggest release date in May in order to look good?
No one was expecting a challenge to all-time openings: “Solo: A Star Wars Story” falls outside the main franchise storyline and faces competition in a top-heavy blockbuster period. Still, the most pessimistic guess was $105 million for the four-day period, with $115 million considered a more likely low-end result.
We anticipated some reasons for the lower guesses. But this even-weaker total suggests that all the possible excuses came to pass — a troubled production history, mediocre early reaction, too much competition, too many Star Wars films in close proximity.
