Neon has released an official trailer for Pamela Adlon‘s directorial debut “Babes,” a comedy starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau.
“Babes” follows childhood best friends Eden (Glazer) and Dawn (Buteau) as Eden becomes pregnant after a one night stand and leans on Dawn to guide her through her pregnancy and beyond. While Dawn navigates motherhood and raising her second child with her husband (Hasan Minaj), she and Eden explore their vastly different adulthoods with one another.
Glazer, the co-creator and star of Comedy Central’s sitcom “Broad City,” co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Rabinowitz. She also produced the movie. The film, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last month, is set to release on May 17.

Shopworn concept improved by up-and-coming actor Odessa A’zion, who is insanely watchable in director Jerren Lauder’s American gothic tale
Director Jerren Lauder has levelled up his directing skills considerably since his debut feature, Stay Out of the F**king Attic from 2020. Sure, the jump-scares, body-hopping demons and gore-letting represent the usual dime-store theatrics you expect from low-budget scare-’em-ups. But there’s a lot more finesse here in the telling of the backstory, as well as an unsettling moody soundtrack by Sanford Parker, and a sense of menace lurking around every corner in the bland suburban setting; together it evokes indie “elevated horror” features such as It Follows. But the component that really kicks The Inhabitant up a notch is the lead performance from young Odessa A’zion, who is insanely watchable as Tara, a troubled teenager in her final year of high school living with her lower-middle-class parents, Emily...

The Inhabitant opens with a series of title cards, some over photos of the victims, telling the viewer the story of Lizzy Borden and allegations of possession and a family curse that seems to persist to the present day passed down among her female descendants.
Tara is stressed out. Her boyfriend Carl is planning on attending college at Stanford. Even worse, her home life is a mess, something not even her best friend Suzy can help her deal with. She’s had past issues with depression which has her parents Ben and Emily concerned. That’s not entirely her fault though, she has a newborn brother, and her mother’s sister Diane was committed to an institution for smothering a newborn and burying the body, and...

Mickey Reece is a filmmaker who, despite having made over 20 movies, has only had one theatrically released. It’s a bit of a sad irony how the timing worked out for Climate of the Hunter, initially screening at Fantastic Fest in 2019 before being delayed until theaters opened up in December last year. But in that messiness, it feels like it got a little lost, like so many great indie films did in the foggy Covid release landscape, though a new streaming home on Shudder has brought it more attention.
Climate of the Hunter, as the title suggests, is an examination of predatory men, personified in the film by Wesley, played with a sinister charm by Ben Hall. Two sisters make up the bulk of the rest of the characters, Alma (Ginger Gilmartin), a woman discharged from a mental institution an unspecified time ago, and Elizabeth (Mary Buss), who works in D.

In Agnes, a nun’s disturbing behavior at a remote convent sparks rumors of demonic possession. Writer/director Mickey Reece has flown under the radar somewhat here in the UK but finally his new film, Climate of the Hunter, along with a number of films from his back catalogue are getting a UK release from Bulldog Film Distribution. The film is set in the 70s and is an elegant mix of melodrama and, potentially, vampirism. Sort of like Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte meets Let’s Scare Jessica to Death.
Alma (Ginger Gilmartin; Fingerprints) and Elizabeth are sisters. They’re also totally different. Alma is a recently divorced artist who smokes lots of weed and has a dog who is a philosopher. Elizabeth is a Washington DC lawyer whose career takes the place of a family. They’re at Alma...

Every wacky detail of indie auteur Mickey Reece’s movie is a reminder of what fun even the oddest art films can be
If you’re an aficionado of Oklahoma’s DIY arts scene, you’ve likely heard of “the Flyover Fassbinder” Aka “the Backwoods Bergman” Aka musican-turned-film-maker, Mickey Reece. For everyone else: welcome to the party. This languid and lascivious vampire movie is the first of the indie auteur’s 37 no-budget films to make it much past the US south-west’s film festival circuit. Reece has modestly described his style as “people talking in rooms” – but, oh what people! His other films tell of demonically possessed nuns, cryogenically frozen country singers and Elvis Presley; Climate of the Hunter is a kind of 70s erotic horror pastiche about two middle-aged sisters, Alma (Ginger Gilmartin) and Elizabeth (Mary Buss), vying for the attentions of their house guest.

After giving us a unique twist on the vampire film in Climate of the Hunter, Mickey Reece and co-writer John Selvidge are back with Agnes, their take on demonic possession and evil doings in a convent. And while I knew this wasn’t going to be another nunsploitation film, I wasn’t expecting just what it delivers.
Sister Agnes is a young nun in an out-of-the-way convent of Saint Theresa. Her behaviour has been most troubling lately, foaming at the mouth, swearing at, and even attacking her fellow nuns. When Mother Superior (Mary Buss; Camp Cold Brook) asks for help she’s sent Father Donaghue an exorcist whom the diocese is looking for an excuse to excommunicate and his protege Ben.

Guess who's coming to dinner?
A remote cabin in the woods. A series of damp days and long nights of velvety darkness. Over elaborate candlelit dinners, two middle aged sisters on very different paths in life vie for the affections of an old friend who just might be a vampire. Mickey Reece’s gorgeously stylish tribute to Seventies cinema, Climate Of The Hunter, which stars Mary Buss, Ginger Gilmartin and Ben Hall, made a splash at last year’s Fantasia and is now getting a multi-platform online release. I caught up with the Oklahoma director to talk about the film and the impact of suddenly finding fame with his 27th feature.
“It was more of a hobby for a long time. Now it's kind of become more of a career,” he acknowledges, still coming across as a bit shy about acknowledging his own talent. I ask if there’s a...

We have another installment of Horror Highlights, showing you the trailers for Sator and Climate of the Hunter, catching up with the composer of Hunter Hunter, and giving you a heads up on Cryptids joining forces with Dark Matter TV!
Watch the trailer for Sator: "Secluded in a desolate forest home to little more than the decaying remnants of the past, a broken family is further torn apart by a mysterious death. Adam, guided by a pervasive sense of dread, hunts for answers only to learn that they are not alone; an insidious presence by the name of Sator has been observing his family, subtly influencing all of them for years in an attempt to claim them.
The uniquely spectral horror-thriller Sator teases the line between fact and fiction as it’s core story, of a demon making contact with an intimate family, is inspired by director Jordan Graham’s own life.

"I'm terrified of death... but I'm even more terrified of being alone." Ha. Dark Star Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Climate of the Hunter, from filmmaker Mickey Reece. It's described as a "critically acclaimed indie auteur Mickey Reece’s award-winning and super stylish vampire feature" and a "gloriously quirky cinematic feat" in reviews. This premiered at Fantastic Fest last year, and it played at a few other genre festivals this year. Two sisters vie for the affections of a man who may or may not be a vampire. Reconnecting after nearly 20 years apart, the two sisters soon discover the truth about their friend Wesley – he could be a vampire. Of course he is! Who are we kidding!? Climate of the Hunter stars Ginger Gilmartin, Mary Buss, Ben Hall, and Jacob Ryan Snovel. This looks like a clever indie twist on the usual "is he a vampire?...

Sisters Alma (Ginger Gilmartin) and Elizabeth (Mary Buss) have known Wesley (Ben Hall) for may years - since the three of them were children, they sometimes say, but it's not quite clear what that means. What is clear is that Wesley's experience of life has been very different from theirs. He may, in fact be a vampire - but if so, he's a predator of the old school. When he's serious about somebody, he likes to move slowly, to enjoy the hunt, to ensure that he has complete control.
For a gentleman of such persuasions, he is - if one might say so without somebody calling the pun police - something of an acquired taste. He takes suaveness to a vulgar extreme, all rich baritone and red wine, spooling out passages of poetry and philosophy to impress his lady friends, waxing lyrical about the stars and simply insisting on being the.

If you’re a fan of the 70s and vampires, I’ve got a trailer here for you to watch for an indie horror thriller called Climate of the Hunter. The film is set in the 1970s and is centered around two sisters who are trying to win over the affection of a man who may or may not be a vampire.
As you’ll see, the film has a certain style and tone that gives it the same kind of vibe as some of the vampire horror films that were made in the 70s. It looks like a interesting and weird flick, but I’d watch it. Here’s the synopsis:
Two sisters, Alma & Elizabeth, along with a dog who's described as a "philosopher," have come to Alma's remote house to reconnect with Wesley after twenty years. Alma is recently divorced, Elizabeth is a workaholic in Washington, D.C.

"Mom, you're alone out here." "Then I better get prepared." Xyz Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Climate of the Hunter, the latest feature from prolific indie filmmaker Mickey Reece. Set in the late 1970s, two middle-aged sisters vie for the affection of a man from their past who may or may not be a vampire. This just premiered at Fantastic Fest this month, but doesn't have a release yet. Starring Ginger Gilmartin, Mary Buss, Ben Hall, Jacob Snovel, Laurie Cummings, Sheridan McMichael, and Danielle Evon Ploeger. Climate of the Hunter, according to Reece's local online newspaper The Oklahoman, is described as "a visual interpretation of The Jesus and Mary Chain's 1985 debut album, Psychocandy." This looks super low budget and just plain weird. Perhaps exactly the kind a film some of you are looking for. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer (+ ...
