New Delhi, Sep 23 (Ians) Former India hockey captain and a member of the 1998 Asian Games gold medal-winning side, Dilip Tirkey, was on Friday elected as the Hockey India (Hi) president, after two others, who had filed nominations for the post, withdrew before the elections.
One of the most capped former players — Tikey played a record 412 international matches in his career spanning more than 15 years as defender –, the 44-year-old great from Odisha represented India at the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
The Hockey India elections process was scheduled to be completed by October 9, as per the deadline set by the International Hockey Federation (Fih) and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in August.

New Delhi, March 3 (Ians) Hockey Haryana is gearing up to host the 11th Hockey India Sub Junior Men's National Championship from March 17 to 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi Mahavidyalaya, Uchana college grounds in Jind district.
The event commences shortly after the 11th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship, which gets the domestic season under way.
The 11th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship will have five days of pool matches followed by quarterfinals on March 22. The semi-finals and the final will take place on March 24th and 25th respectively. A total of 25 teams are part of the tournament.
Hockey Odisha, who are in Pool A, are the reigning champions.
