Our feature series Origins provides artists with a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Hatis Noit, Armand Hammer, and Preservation take us through their new single, “Jomon.”
Japanese vocal performer Hatis Noit has shared a reworking of her song “Jomon” by the producer Preservation and featuring New York City rap duo Armand Hammer. With newly added hip-hop beats and rap verses, the song is vastly different from the original, which was exclusively a chant-style of music.
The hypnotic vocals from Noit remain, but rather than being the focal point of the song, they are merely another instrument in this rework used to support Armand Hammer’s vocals in the front of the mix.
“Generally, when I write songs, the theme normally does not come first,” the artist tells Consequence. “But rather some impulse within me lets me produce voices that come out of my body,...

Armand Hammer are back with “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” the third and final look at their upcoming album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips. Check out the El-p-produced track below.
Elucid and billy woods and name drop figures from Henry Kissinger to Harry Belafonte to Beyoncé in the single, which features rolling, mechanical percussion and a repetitive bass line. In terms of energy, the track sits somewhere in between heated first single “Trauma Mic” and the experimental “Woke Up and Asked Siri How I’m Gonna Die.”
“woods and Elucid have something special going and I am happy we got together on this jam,” El-p said of “The Gods Must Be Crazy.” “I think we made a banger.”
We Buy Diabetic Test Strips is out this Friday, September 29th, via Fat Possum Records, and pre-orders are ongoing. In October, the duo will embark on a North American/European tour.

Armand Hammer “Woke Up and Asked Siri How I’m Gonna Die,” as one does. Find out what she said in the Jpegmafia-produced track below.
The experimental track begins with a collage of sounds, from sampled audio about the joys of “Jpegs” to calming, reverb-heavy vocalizations. It takes about a minute for billy woods and Elucid to begin rapping, and soon enough, the hallucinatory track fades out.
Despite its brief nature, billy woods spoke highly of “Woke Up and Asked Siri How I’m Gonna Die,” the second single from the upcoming album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips, in a statement. “I think that every project I worked on, you are kinda waiting to make your first track that is more than the sum of its parts,” he said. “Because some tracks have a dope verse and a really good beat and a great hook, and the song is really dope and that’s cool.

Los Angeles, June 1 (Ians) The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s (Da) office has decided not to file sexual assault charges against actor Armie Hammer, following a lengthy investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
In a statement, the Da’s office said it could not prove rape allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, in part due to the “complexity of the relationship” between Hammer and the accuser, reports ‘Variety’.
According to ‘Variety’, the accuser, who was previously identified as Effie, reported Hammer to the police in February 2021.
She claimed that Hammer had been physically abusive during an on-and-off relationship that spanned four years, and said that he had violently raped her in 2017.
Hammer has vehemently denied her allegations.
The Da’s office said that it assigns experienced prosecutors to review sexual assault investigations.

For much of the past decade, Brooklyn rapper billy woods — he stylizes his name in lowercase letters — has reigned as an unlikely hero of left-of-center hip-hop. A protégé of influential Cannibal Ox rapper Vordul Mega, he emerged just as the subterranean New York scene centered around critically lionized label Definitive Jux began to fragment. Unlike many of his peers who disappeared into CD-r obscurity, woods kept grinding with his Backwoodz Studios imprint. His 2012 breakthrough, History Will Absolve Me, arrived just as listeners — prepped by Odd Future, whimsical songwriters like Busdriver...

New York rapper billy woods and LA producer Kenny Segal have tapped Future Islands singer Samuel T. Herring for “FaceTime,” the lead single from their upcoming collaborative album, Maps.
Over Segal’s wistful, horn-based production, woods describes his life on the road in vivid detail. “They was goin’ off during Playboi Carti set,” he raps. “Now they in the halls partyin’/ Checkin’ they phones, bass shake the walls/ I’m smokin’ alone in a cardigan.”
Herring provides the chorus on the track, singing about the loneliness of touring: “Continental breakfast, stick and weave, tuck and roll/ I can’t take you with me, but I be on your phone.” Stream “FaceTime” below.
“FaceTime” isn’t the first time that the trio of artists have worked together. Back in 2019, Segal produced Back at the House, Herring’s album under his alternative hip-hop moniker Hemlock Ernst. Separately, Herring was featured on woods’ 2017 track “Illegal Tints,...

Juicy details about celebrities who are alleged cannibals are tough to ignore, perhaps especially so if you’re the ex of that flesh-eating actor. Elizabeth Chambers, now separated from Armie Hammer, has revealed that she finally watched the Discovery+ documentary House of Hammer, although she certainly went in with a different perspective than the average viewer.
Elizabeth Chambers had no intention of actually watching House of Hammer, but she found herself one day doing so–with a support system by her side. “It was obviously heartbreaking on so many levels and very painful. But at the same time, it exists. The past is the past and all we can do is take this as a moment to learn and listen, and hopefully process and heal in every capacity.” Despite being married to Armie Hammer for a decade, she was “surprised” by much of the content of House of Hammer.

The makers of a documentary about Armie Hammer’s alleged abuse have said they will make one change to it, following its release last week.
Production house Talos Films will reportedly remove the photograph of an alleged bite mark that Hammer’s ex-girlfriend Courtney Vucekovich believed was of her own body, after viewers raised questions over its authenticity.
Vucekovich and Hammer, 35, allegedly began dating in June 2020. She alleges that their short relationship involved “love bombing” and a sex act that left her feeling “traumatised”.
At one point during the series, Vucekovich claims Hammer “bites really hard”. Viewers are shown a picture of a bite mark which the Dallas-based business owner claimed was one Hammer had left on her body, adding she thought it was taken by the controversial Hollywood actor.
After watching the scene, some viewers reportedly pointed out that the photo looked like a photo of a bite mark...

It's been a year and half since Armie Hammer's stardom publicly imploded and somehow, there's already a docuseries about it.
What began with one woman sharing her story eventually led to a snowball effect as many of Hammer's former girlfriends stepped forward to share horrifying accusations and proof of threatening text messages. The actor has since been accused of rape and abuse. He ended up losing his agent, dropping out of multiple projects, and remains at the center of an LAPD sex crimes investigation. The latest word on the matter is the news surrounding "House of Hammer," a three-part Discovery+ docuseries, which arrived on the streamer earlier this week.

“This documentary contains graphic descriptions of violence, sexual abuse and coercive control.”
That’s the warning viewers see when they first tune into “House of Hammer,” a new three-part docuseries from Discovery+, which exposes details surrounding the sexual abuse allegations against Armie Hammer.
In early 2021, an onslaught of unverified messages that “The Social Network” star had allegedly sent to women surfaced on social media after one of his exes began to anonymously post graphic messages in which Hammer allegedly texted, “I am 100 a cannibal” and “I want to eat you.” The messages snowballed and Hammer’s career went into freefall.
Hammer has denied all allegations, maintaining that any and all interactions with his sexual partners were consensual and mutually participatory. But numerous women have accused him of abuse, coercion and even rape, which lead to an LAPD investigation.

There’s a pervasive question repeatedly asked through “House of Hammer”: How did Hollywood’s Golden Boy seemingly turn into a pariah overnight?
Unfortunately, this three-part Discovery+ docuseries has little new to say on its subject — or the themes of power and abuse — because we’ve seen this narrative play out many times before. Hell, even just this week actor Shia Labeouf, accused of abusive behavior by an ex-lover, embarked on a redemption tour in the hopes of reshaping his own narrative. Bad behavior from Hollywood’s It boys didn’t start or end with the “Call Me By Your Name” star.
Then again, “House of Hammer” is about a generational legacy all its own. When the actor came to prominence in 2010 with the release of David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” much was made about his connection to Los Angeles’ prominent Hammer family. As this project will remind you continuously,...

On the surface, House of Hammer could be about any number of subjects. Perhaps the legendary British horror production company Hammer. Or maybe the house Mc Hammer had to sell after filing for bankruptcy. Ok, we had to open with some lightheartedness because things are about to get pretty dark.
Now that it is available, details are coming out from House of Hammer, Discovery+’s three-episode miniseries detailing not only Armie Hammer’s troubles, but his great-grandfather, oil magnate Armand Hammer. Armie has allegations of abuse, rape and cannibalism against him, while Armand is depicted as abusive, manipulative and a liar, to say the least. Oh, and it seems Armie’s grandfather, Julian, was a bit of a sicko, too, as he was a drunk who once offered his son a million dollars for his girlfriend. So, think about that next time you’re worried about your seat at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

It almost feels too early for a documentary series about the abuse allegations against Armie Hammer. If you leave out the fact that much of the scandal takes place via texts and Instagram DMs, it feels like the kind of story we might learn decades later, perhaps in a harrowing season of Karina Longworth’s “You Must Remember This” podcast. A rich and handsome movie star with a dark personal life? That’s most certainly not a new concept. Plus, there’s no ending yet. Despite many public accounts of his treatment of romantic partners, including accusations of rape, Armie Hammer is just selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, biding his time until an inevitable comeback attempt.
But the point of “House of Hammer,” the new docuseries on Discovery+, is that this scandal goes back further than most people might realize. The Hammer family is made up of a long...

An explosive new documentary explores allegations surrounding Armie Hammer, as well as the Hammer family history at large.
Released on Discovery+ on Friday (2 September), House of Hammer is a three-part examination of the alleged abuses of the actor, which then delves into the reported wrongdoings of Armand Hammer, the actor’s grandfather.
In 2021, a woman identified as Effie publicly accused the Call Me By Your Name star of raping and abusing her, a claim he denies. Since then, others have alleged sexual misconduct against the actor, two of whom appear on camera in the documentary series.
Hammer has repeatedly denied allegations of sexual misconduct made against him.
Directors Elli Hakami and Julian P. Hobbs use the allegations lodged against Hammer as a jumping-off point to explore all facets of his famous family.
As told by The Hollywood Reporter, House of Hammer’s first episode sees a Dallas-based business owner named...

A new docuseries about Armie Hammer arrives on Discovery+ Friday, promising to delve deep into the headline-making accusations leveled against the actor over the past year, in addition to his wealthy family’s dark past.
The trailer for “House of Hammer,” which dropped earlier this month, includes clips of conversations with the actor’s ex-girlfriends Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, who provide screenshots of text conversations, voice memos and photos to back up their accounts of the alleged abuse they endured. The trailer ends with the huge kicker that Hammer’s aunt, Casey Hammer, will also be featured in the docuseries, speaking out about her own family.
“On the outside, we were a perfect family, but magnify ‘Succession’ a million times and it was my family,” she says in the clip. “If you believe about making deals with the devil, the Hammers are top of the totem pole.”

The trailer, released on Aug. 10, features interviews with Hammer's exes Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, as well as his aunt Casey Hammer, who promises that the documentary will reveal shocking details. Armie Hammer, the embattled actor who was accused of sexual abuse in early 2021, is the focus of a forthcoming Discovery+ docuseries, which also delves into his family history.
The three-part series, “House of Hammer,” investigates accusations against Hammer — which he has emphatically and repeatedly denied through lawyers — including messages that he allegedly sent to women about his cannibalistic fantasies and sexual fetishes, which his accusers say were abusive.
An explosive trailer, released on Wednesday by Discovery, includes two of Hammer’s alleged victims giving on-camera interviews and sharing screenshots of messages and audio of voice memos they claim to have received from the actor.
“I have a fantasy about having someone prove their love and devotion and tying them up in a public place at night and making their body free use,” one alleged message from Hammer says.
Hammer is also alleged to have said in a voice memo, which is played in the trailer,...

Last week, reports circulated as photos of Armie Hammer surfaced on social media and in the tabloids. The photos in question appeared to showcase the actor — who was all but ousted from Hollywood after being hit with a series of sexual abuse allegations — working at a hotel resort in the Cayman Islands.
Initially, a flyer made the rounds on social media stating that Hammer was working as a hotel concierge. The hotel told various media outlets, including Variety, that Hammer was not on their staff. But then photos were published of Hammer appearing to be dressed in uniform, working at the resort.
Now, a source tells Variety that Hammer is indeed working selling timeshares at a hotel in the Caymans, and that all other reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate.

D.C. born, New York-based underground rapper billy woods specializes in music about poor city dwellers, sadistic police, and conniving landlords. Woods, who prefers his name to be all lowercase and his face never shown, raps like he’s omnipresent, watching an unlivable society from the sky; his music vividly evokes the moral confusion and feeling of living in a police state that New Yorkers now have.
Half of the acclaimed duo Armand Hammer, woods released an excellent solo record, Aethiopes, earlier this month. “Sauvages,” a standout track, features Detroit...

It’s by chance that Boldy James started working with Alchemist. Long before 2020’s Price of Tea in China came out, Boldy was hanging out in his car when a guy who was chilling with his friends got too fresh with him. Boldy proceeded to knock the guy’s five front teeth out so hard that you could probably see objects circle his head like Elmer Fudd. When someone appeared to hand the laid out dude something that looked like a gun, Boldy rightfully skated off. The guy got in...

Presidential pardon power has always been political. But few presidents have wielded it to reward heroes of a political base like Donald Trump, who has pardoned the ranchers who set off the Malheur Occupation, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Dick Cheney’s henchman Scooter Libby. Today, the pardon power hangs over the work of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, as he racks up convictions for men like former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Trump has even boasted on Twitter that he could pardon himself. Here, a look back at controversial presidential pardons,...
