Thirty years after introducing viewers to a sadistic serial killer in the Danish horror film Nightwatch (aka Nattevagten), writer/director Ole Bornedal has returned to the world of his harrowing film with the sequel Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever. Easily one of my favorite films of the year thus far, Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever is a relentlessly tense examination of the damaging effects of unresolved trauma on families, the painful healing of the grieving process, and how the past can literally come back to haunt you... with something sharp in its hands.
Featuring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kim Bodnia, and Ulf Pilgaard reprising their roles from the original Nightwatch alongside a talented roster of actors who are new to this franchise, Demons Are Forever is now streaming on Shudder, and Daily Dead caught up with writer/director Ole Bornedal to discuss continuing the story of Nightwatch 30 years later, exploring the aftereffects of violent trauma through his film's characters,...

Plot: Thirty years after the events of the 1994 serial killer thriller Nightwatch, the daughter of two of the deeply damaged surviving characters takes her dad’s old job as night watchman at the Department of Forensic Medicine. Investigating the events that ruined her parents’ lives, she accidentally kicks off a new killing spree.
Review: Back in 1994, Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal brought the world a serial killer thriller called Nightwatch, about a young law student named Martin (played by future Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) who takes a job as night watchman at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Copenhagen and inadvertently gets mixed up in the investigation of the serial killer case that has been providing the morgue with a lot of fresh corpses. By the end of the film, Martin, his girlfriend Kalinka, and his best friend Jens have all had close calls with the killer, who is...

Ole Bornedal follows up his 90s suspense thriller Nightwatch and goes back to the same creepy building
Thirty years ago, just before the Dogme 95 movement raised the profile of Danish film-making, Ole Bornedal’s suspense thriller Nightwatch was what success for the country’s cinema looked like. Basically a modest but moderately clever genre exercise, it starred a young chiselled-cheeked Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, later cast as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, as a student called Martin who gets a job as a nightwatchman at a municipal building that contains a morgue. Partly because of a dare by his reckless buddy Jens, Martin ends up becoming a suspect in that most 1990s of cinematic plot devices, a string of murders of sex workers by a serial killer. The last act is all Wtf-twists, blue-hued lighting and stabby strings on the soundtrack, but the cast, which also includes the always-great Sofie Grabol as Martin’s girlfriend Kalinka,...

Back in 1994, long before he was cast to play Jaime Lannister in the hit series Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau made his feature film debut in writer/director Ole Bornedal’s thriller Nightwatch, where he played a character named Martin, a law student who takes a job working as a night watchman at The Department of Forensic Medicine in Copenhagen just as the place starts filling up with the bodies of a serial killer’s victims. Now, thirty years after working on the original Nightwatch together, Bornedal and Coster-Waldau have re-teamed for a “30 years” later sequel called Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, which is set to be released through the Shudder streaming service on May 17th – and with that date just a month away, a trailer for the film has arrived online! Vikings fans holding out to watch the back half of Vikings Season 6B on History Channel, we have some good news.
The cable network has announced the final episodes will begin airing Saturday, June 5th, at 8/7c.
Fans were thrown for a loop in December when Amazon Prime announced it would be taking the rights to Vikings to air on streaming and that it would be launching that month.
"Prime Video has already delighted Prime members with all five and a half seasons of Vikings," said Brad Beale, VP worldwide content licensing at Amazon, said in a statement at the time.
“On Dec. 30, Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria, and Ireland will be the first to learn the fates of the beloved characters as the epic drama concludes in the final 10 episodes."

Then, late last year, it was announced that the final 10 episodes of the series would be released on Amazon Prime Video first, on December 30th. Regular cable viewers would have to wait. The final episodes were then released on Hulu on March 30th and regular cable viewers had to keep waiting.
Well, the long wait is finally over. History has quietly announced that the final episodes of Vikings will begin airing on Saturday, June 5th, at 8/7c.

After a year-long wait, History Channel is finally bringing an end to its Norseman saga, “Vikings.” Except that when the historical drama premieres its final 10 episodes, they won’t be on History — but on Amazon’s Prime Video, where all the episodes will drop on Dec. 30. The A+E Networks cable channel is taking an unconventional route to close out its first scripted series on Prime Video before airing on a weekly basis on History next year. The series, which stars Alexander Ludwig, Peter Franzen and Alex Høgh Andersen, was originally set to wrap up its run with a 20-episode sixth and final season split into two parts on History Channel. The first half of the final season debuted last December. “Vikings” showrunner Michael Hirst told TheWrap that the decision was out of his hands. “Nobody told me anything about it. I was told about it as a fait accompli,” he said.

This Vikings season 6 part two review is based on all 10 episodes and contains no spoilers.
Vikings has always been Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) story. First, we witnessed the rise of the man himself from farmer to visionary to earl to king to legend. Post-Ragnar, the show became an exploration of how Ragnar’s legend suffused and inhabited his sons, and the consequences of its interpretation upon enemies, frenemies, kith, kin and Kings the world over. And, now, the saga comes to an end with the second half of Vikings swansong sixth season, ten episodes that drip with all the blood, battles, tears, seers, fears, and philosophy you’ve come to expect from the History Channel’s flagship show (though this season will premiere on Amazon).
It’s tough to write a spoiler-free review of a show like Vikings, especially here at the show’s conclusion where it won’t...

The final 10 episodes of Michael Hirst’s historical drama Vikings is moving from History to Amazon for its first window. The streamer has struck a deal to have the exclusive first run of the second half of the MGM drama’s final season. It will launch all 10 episodes on December 30 in the U.S., UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland.
The unusual arrangement means that History, which originally commissioned the show, will only have second-window rights to one of its key scripted shows. It comes as the A+E Networks channel is moving out of returnable scripted series and focusing on limited miniseries.
The move also comes as Netflix is in production with its Vikings spinoff Vikings: Valhalla, which is currently in production in Ireland.

“Vikings” Season 6 will roll out its final episodes on Amazon prior to airing on its linear home on History Channel.
The last 10 episodes of the show’s final season will drop on Amazon in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland on Dec. 30. They will then roll out on History, which has aired the show from the beginning, though the exact date for that has not yet been announced.
“Our monumental Vikings saga is coming to its conclusion, but not before you’ve had to chance to watch some of my all-time favorite episodes,” said “Vikings” creator, executive producer and sole writer Michael Hirst. “Prime Video will uniquely expose the series finale to a streaming audience first. Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way. And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.”

Fans of History’s Nordic drama Vikings are used to waiting patiently for the series to return for its next installment, but with Covid-19 raging globally, any news of a return for the final ten episodes is certainly welcome. And while creator, writer, and showrunner Michael Hirst didn’t reveal anything concrete about the conclusion of season six, his appearance on a Comic-Con@Home 2020 panel gave the show’s followers a chance to reminisce along with past and present cast members Travis Fimmel (Ragnar), Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Alex Ludwig (Bjorn), Jordan Patrick Smith (Ubbe), and Clive Standen (Rollo).
Senior writer with TV Guide magazine Kate Hahn moderated the Vikings panel looked back on the first five and a half seasons of the Lothbrok clan’s rise and fall from power. “The characters will all have their fates decided,” Hirst explained. “Whether they live or die is in the hands of the gods and me.

Alex Høgh Andersen talks about his troubled character, and what to expect from Vikings Season 6
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Vikings season 6 is about to premiere on The History Channel, and after last season’s tumultuous events in Kattegat, mostly at the hands of Ragnar’s youngest son Ivar, we were keen to catch up with the actor behind so much of the madness and spectacle leading into this new season.
Below, Alex Høgh Andersen shared his thoughts on love, betrayal, and the humanity inside Vikings’ mad, bad, and maybe misunderstood brother Ivar...
So let me start out with, it's always good to start out by calling your interviewee a bastard. So let me do that.
(laughs)
Actually, I'm just echoing something you said. You once called Ivar a bastard, but you said that it's important as an actor that you not judge him too much.

The sixth season and final season of the series, which stars Alex Høgh Andersen and Alexander Ludwig as warring brothers, is set to air in two parts, with the first half debuting with a two-hour premiere on History on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Bjorn and Hvitserk send Ivar on the run, and Queen Mother Lagertha returns home in the Vikings season finale.
This Vikings review contains spoilers.
Vikings Season 5 Episode 20
“All my brothers are against me. Now I know I’m the chosen one.”
Though “Ragnarok” spends most of its time on the battlefield in and around Kattegat, it’s the interpersonal intrigues that produce some level of resolution and set Vikings up nicely for its final season. Of course, the Lothbrok brothers throwdown highlights the episode, and in the end, we receive the hoped for outcome despite experiencing a few worrisome bumps along the road. Unreasonable expectations typically accompany season finales, and for a show that most recently asked fans to wait ten months for the next installment, the stakes were understandably high. And once again, creator/writer Michael Hirst delivers.

The biggest blockbuster on History is returning for more warfare. At a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday afternoon, “Vikings” unveiled the return date for its ongoing Season 5 as the network’s biggest show teases a holiday return.
This new glimpse at what the series has in store has a lot of the elements of last year’s Comic-Con unveiling, with dueling tribes, shaky alliances and much talk of destiny. This time, though, the circumstances have changed.
While Ivar the Boneless’ (Alex Høgh Andersen) has a tentative grasp on the throne, this trailer shows that keeping that upper hand might be a little trickier than he thought. As Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) regroup after being bested in battle when last we saw them, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) plans his own payback in the distant reaches of Iceland. Meanwhile, Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) takes cover with Bjorn and Lagertha’s retreating forces.

Season 5 of Vikings on History reached its midpoint with less bloodshed than we expected. Here TV critics Ernie Estrella and April Neale resume their discussion about this beloved dramatic series created by Michael Hirst and starring Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha, who appears to have numbered days left thanks to the insane, youngest son of Queen Aslaug, Ivar the Boneless played by Alex Høgh Andersen. Fans don't have to worry that the Vikings TV show on History will be cancelled in the near future. The fifth season just kicked off last week, and back in September, History renewed Vikings for season six. Still, how long should the audience expect this historical drama to run? According to History's new programming Executive Vice President, Eli Lehrer, it sounds like the decision to continue or end Vikings largely lies with creator and writer Michael Hirst. A History channel action-adventure series, the fifth season of Vikings stars Alexander Ludwig, Alex Høgh Andersen, Peter Franzén, Katheryn Winnick, Jordan Patrick Smith, Gustaf Skarsgård, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Despite another ratings drop last year, fans don't have to wonder about whether the Vikings TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season on History. The cable network picked up season six, back in September of this year. What's less clear is whether or not that early renewal was for Viking's final installment. This time around, will the Norse saga's Nielsen numbers warrant a seventh season, or even more? Stay tuned. Alex Høgh Andersen returned to Vikings in the Season 5 premiere last night — spending quite a bit of the time with blood splattered across his face. But in this smouldering photoshoot Andersen is a million miles from torturing priests as his sociophathic character Ivar the Boneless. As it was in Norse history, Alex Høgh Andersen may only be 23 but his character Ivar the Boneless is slaying it in the new season of Vikings. History Channel, with great help and artful writing from showrunner Michael Hirst, has dipped deeply into the Norse tales of the Viking warrior Ragnar Lothbrok and his noted sons. Ivar the Boneless is the runt who would show them all up.
