Plot: A bachelorette party being held in an isolated farmhouse is crashed by a group of homicidal home invaders.
Review: In some circles, writer/director Neil Labute tanked his reputation by making the goofball 2006 remake of The Wicker Man – which is a shame, because when he first arrived on the scene he was a best known for making emotionally devastating dramas and dark comedies like In the Company of Men and Your Friends & Neighbors. His latest film is the home invasion thriller Fear the Night… and while it’s not on the level of his well-regarded dramas and dark comedies, it also doesn’t fall to the depths of the Wicker Man remake. (Which star Nicolas Cage insists was always meant to be a comedy as well.) So it may be best to refer to this one as “From the director of Lakeview Terrace”. It’s not great, it’s not bad.

Quiver Distribution will be giving the film a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on July 21st – and with that date just over three weeks away, a poster for Fear the Night has now been unveiled as well. The poster can be seen at the bottom of this article and shows Q’s character, armed, bloody, and ready for battle.
Scripted by Labute, Fear the Night has the following synopsis: Eight women attend a bachelorette party at a remote farmhouse in the California hills. They are interrupted by the arrival of masked intruders who surround the place and begin shooting arrows at the home and the guests. One partygoer—Tess, a military veteran who is fighting her addictions and her difficulty at fitting...

"Screaming is not going to keep us alive! Listen to me – and maybe that will..." Quiver Distribution has revealed an official trailer for an indie home invasion thriller titled Fear the Night, arriving to watch later in July. Filmmaker Neil Labute has been making quite a comeback recently, with two films out last year (Out of the Blue and House of Darkness) and this next one already ready for release as well. He's probably got a few others in the works, too. In this film - eight women attend a wild bachelorette party at a remote farmhouse in the California hills. They are interrupted by the arrival of masked intruders who surround the place and begin shooting arrows. One partygoer—Tess, a military veteran who is fighting her addictions and her difficulty at fitting in with other people—leads the women in making a stand against the attackers as they fight back.

The “Star Trek” franchise is not only a television institution, it’s also an Emmy institution, from the original series and “The Next Generation,” which earned nominations for Best Drama Series, to subsequent spinoffs like “Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager,” and “Enterprise” that continued to rack up plaudits in craft categories. The sci-fi extended universe now has more shows than ever exploring the galaxy. Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 6
Continuing a kind of mash-up between 12 Monkeys and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard has entered into its final batch of episodes. At this point, the show has a lot going on: from a rogue Soong (Brent Spiner) to a new hybrid Borg Queen (Alison Pill And Annie Wersching), and of course, the still unexplained mystery of Q’s vanishing powers. But, for the most part, in Episode 7, “Monsters,” the show slows down. Here, we’re in Jean-Luc’s mind for about half the episode, which could have triggered a clip-show episode a la Tng’s “Shades of Gray” but thankfully didn’t.
Instead, Picard brought a batch of deep cuts and easter eggs from the entire Star Trek franchise, and a few other sci-fi franchises along the way, too.

This post contains spoilers for Picard season 2.
When Picard season two found the title character and his crew going back to 2024 after being sent to an alternate universe by Q, fans expected to see some surprising faces. Thus far, the most notable has been a younger Guinan, with Ito Aghayere filling in for Whoopi Goldberg. But some TV fans may have recognized another familiar face in Guinan’s Los Angeles bar, one usually found behind the chaos and not in the center of the action.
Brian Quinn, aka Q of the Impractical Jokers, appears as “Uncle Dale,” a dog walker who arrives to bring home Guinan’s pet Luna. As some observers have noted, this isn’t the first time Quinn has cameoed in a genre show, having shown up in the Syfy series 12 Monkeys and the CBS adventure show MacGyver. Even more interesting is that Quinn’s character...

For all those critics who have implied that New Trek's narratives are "too dark," Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 4 taps into some of the whimsical charm of the time-traveling Tos film, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Yes, we get a look at the contemporary horror that is an I.C.E. detention center, but we also get an improbably crash-free car chase led by Seven with no previous driving experience and no idea what the rules of the road are.
Recently, the hotly debated question has been, "Who is The Watcher?" The discussion has even overtaken the theories on who the masked Borg queen was on Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 1. *cough*Jurati*cough*
And the answer is... ... Laris. But not.
When the Borg queen's coordinates beam Picard directly to the steps of Guinan's bar in Los Angeles at 10, Forward Ave., did y'all Hear the roar of, "I Knew It!

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 4
The topsy-turvy time travel antics of Star Trek: Picard season 2, episode 4, continue with “Watcher,” an episode in which we do, in fact, meet the mysterious Watcher, as well as someone else who we didn’t expect to see in this century at all. Along the way, Picard manages to dive deep for those Trekkie Easter eggs, some of which fix some very old mysterious, lurking in the strange Star Trek timeline for years and years.
Here are the five deepest cuts in the latest episode of Picard and what they mean for the larger Star Trek universe as a whole.
Picard’s accent finally explained

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 4 “Watcher.”] Still in Los Angeles’ past, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) gets a blast from his in the latest episode of the Paramount+ series. After Star Trek: Picard kicked off its second season with Picard visiting his old friend Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) at the 10 Forward in his timeline, he sees her again in “Watcher,” only this time it’s a younger version, played by Ito Aghayere, and she has no idea who he is. Though she doesn’t have their history to fall back on (yet), Guinan trusts Picard enough to help him on his path to fix the timeline and find the Watcher. Taking on the role is “nerve-wracking, especially as a fan, and intimidating” Aghayere admits to TV Insider. “I love Guinan. I love Whoopi’s Guinan, and she was such an icon to me growing up. And so to be able to step...

Spoiler Warning: This story discusses specific events in Season 2, Episode 4 of “Star Trek: Picard,” currently streaming on Paramount Plus.
As even casual fans of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” know, one of the beloved sci-fi show’s most meaningful relationships was between Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the proprietor of the main bar on the U.S.S. Enterprise, Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg). The characters mean so much to each other that Stewart moved Goldberg to tears when he invited her to join him on the “Tng” sequel series “Star Trek: Picard” while appearing on an episode of “The View” in January 2020.
The Season 2 premiere of “Picard” wastes little time in bringing Goldberg back as Guinan, with a lovely scene in which the two old friends throw back some strong hooch in Guinan’s bar on Earth, as she attempts to soothe Picard’s wounded psyche.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time a Brides of Dracula-based series has been considered, and it's not even the first time This series has been on the table.

Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Nurse Dennis on CBS’ comedy Carol’s Second Act. Cedric Yarbrough, who has recurred as the character since the series’ launch, has been promoted to series regular.
Yarbrough’s Nurse Dennis is a hospital veteran who runs the town, and has little patience for nonsense from interns. Though he’s described as generally dry, he does have a mischievous side and isn’t above holding a grudge.
Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton, hails from Trophy Wife creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Heaton and David Hunt’s FourBoys Entertainment and CBS TV Studios. Written by Halpern and Haskins, it centers on Carol Chambers (Heaton), who after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, embarks on a unique second act: she’s going to become a doctor.
In addition to Heaton, the series stars Kyle MacLachlan as Dr.

CBS has ordered additional episodes of all five of its freshman series. Drama Evil, which was designed to produce 13-episode seasons, has been renewed for a second season to premiere in 2020-2021. New drama All Rise and comedies Carol’s Second Act, The Unicorn and Bob ♥ Abishola all have received back orders for the 2019-2020 broadcast season.
Per usual, CBS calls them full-season orders, though I hear at least some are partial ones. Like all Chuck Lorre-CBS series, Bob ♥ Abishola is believed to have received a Back 9 pickup; the orders for the others are about five episode each, I hear.
While none has been a breakout hit, CBS’ freshman series have been solid performers in total viewers by this fall’s ratings standards.
Boosted by a delayed viewing bump, Evil, created by Michelle and Robert King, is averaging more than 7.1 million viewers in Nielsen Live+7. The thriller drama will...

“Carol’s Second Act” is aiming to be Patricia Heaton’s third, a defining hit series for a performer who’s previously had defining roles in “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “The Middle.” But compared to those shows, built around families whose dynamic informed the shows’ stories, this sitcom has an awful lot of situation. We meet Carol, a medical resident, at the same time her cohort does; they assume, because of her age, that she’s their supervisor, and are instead frustrated and baffled by Carol’s eager, uncynical attitude.
A retired science teacher rebooting her life after a divorce, Carol is sunny and eager to what her younger peers would consider a fault. The actual chief resident (Ito Aghayere) seems burdened by an underling with so much more verve than decorum, while a distinguished doctor around Carol’s own age finds her pleasantly refreshing. Refreshing, too, is the fact...

After nine seasons on The Middle and Everybody Loves Raymond, Patricia Heaton was asked whether she was looking forward to another nine season run on CBS comedy Carol’s Second Act.
“My perfect scenario, as I see death getting near, is that I’d die on a sound stage, that’s how I want to go. Just as long as I’ve had full hair and make-up,” she jokes.
Heaton was front and center of the show’s TCA summer press tour panel, joking alongside creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins and co-stars Kyle MacLachlan, Ito Aghayere, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Sabrina Jalees and Ashley Tisdale.
The show, which is produced by CBS TV Studios in association with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Heaton and David Hunt’s FourBoys Entertainment, is based around Carol Chambers (Heaton), who after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, embarks on a unique second...

CBS has picked up three dramas and four comedies for the 2019-2020 season.
The dramas are “Evil” from Robert and Michelle King, the spinoff “FBI: Most Wanted,” and the legal drama “All Rise,” formerly known as “Courthouse.” The comedies are the multi-cams “Broke,” “Carol’s Second Act,” and “Bob Hearts Abishola” and the single-cam “The Unicorn.”
Interestingly, two former stars of the now canceled Marvel-Netflix series “Luke Cage” will appear in CBS’ new shows, albeit on different series. Mike Colter will star in “Evil” while Simone Missick will star in “All Rise.” Another Marvel-Netflix alum, Wilson Bethel, will star in “All Rise” with Missick. Bethel played the villain Bullseye in “Daredevil” Season 3.
“Evil” focuses on a skeptical female forensic psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter to investigate and assess the Church’s backlog of supposed miracles, demonic possessions and unexplained phenomena. It will star Katja Herbers,...

CBS has ordered seven pilots to series for the 2019-20 season ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers next week. The seven series are made up of four comedies and three dramas.
Among the comedies ordered at the broadcast network are Chuck Lorre’s “Bob Hearts Abishola,” Patricia Heaton’s “Carol’s Second Act” and “Broke” from “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Snyder Urman. The Peyton Reed-produced “The Unicorn” with Walton Goggins and Rob Corddry was also picked up.
Heaton starred on CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Broke” will see “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette return to the network. The pickups will maintain Lorre’s — who already has “Mom” and “Young Sheldon” coming back next season — strong relationship with the network, after “The Big Bang Theory” says farewell next week.
