The reverberations of upcoming Disney+ series “Echo” are immense for both the MCU and Disney+ streamer.
The Marvel installment centers on Indigenous deaf antihero Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox, who first appeared in 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” However, “Echo” will take a “grittier” approach to the Marvel storytelling, according to Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, TV, and animation at Marvel and an executive producer on the series.
“It is kind of a new direction for the brand, especially on Disney+,” Winderbaum said at a press event (via Variety).
“Echo” is the first Disney+ series rated TV-ma; the series will debut in its entirety, as opposed to typical Marvel weekly installments, on both Disney+ and Hulu, another first for both platforms. “Echo” marks the return of “Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio ahead of the new Daredevil Disney+ series which is currently in flux amid a series of reshoots and...

It didn’t take long after Disney+ added its first R-rated movies to its platform with “Deadpool” and “Logan” last week that some concerned parents claimed Disney had broken its promise to keep such content off the family-friendly service. “After decades of corporate brilliance establishing itself as the world’s most trusted brand for families, today’s C-level suite at Disney has decided to flush it all down the toilet,” declared Tim Winter, president of Parents Television and Media Council. The conservative-media watchdog group was quick to react after Disney, the world’s biggest entertainment company, announced on Friday that it was rolling out more adult fare on it’s squeaky-clean brand streamer. And they weren’t the only group that wanted to make parents aware of the coming changes. “Disney’s shift away from their launch messaging that Disney+ content would never be above a PG-13-equivalent maturity level...

Disney+ just got a little darker.
The streamer announced that starting Friday, July 22, R-rated Marvel titles “Deadpool,” “Deadpool 2,” and “Logan” will be available to stream in the U.S.
Ryan Reynolds’ 2016 record-breaking hit “Deadpool” tells the story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson (Reynolds) who hunts down those who nearly killed him with a rogue experiment that has granted him superpowers. Its sequel, “Deadpool 2,” premiered in 2018.
Critically acclaimed 2017 film “Logan” features Hugh Jackman reprising the role of Wolverine as he cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and vows to save the next generation of mutants.
“Logan” star Jackman joked on Instagram that it was a “questionable” decision for Disney to put the films on the streamer.
“Thank you @disneyplus for adding brothers-in-arms @deadpoolmovie and #Logan as the first R-Rated movies on the platform,” Jackman captioned. “While your choice is questionable, we’ll take it.

Parents Television Council president Tim Winter is calling the Disney and Fox merger a “Pandora’s Box of vexing concerns for parents and families” and has urged federal regulatory agencies “to make a thorough and careful review to ensure that the unique needs of children and families, and indeed the public overall, are prioritized over the corporate interests.” In a statement released Thursday, Winter said that media conglomerates “have trended towards” explicit content that “delves into the explicit soft-core porn territory” and that “a Disney-Fox merger would be no different.” He added that the merger will allow Disney to extend from cable.

The Parents Television Council took a bit of a victory lap on Tuesday over the cancellations of ABC’s “The Real O’Neals” and Fox’s “Scream Queens.” Oh yeah, and the PTC also used the moment to ask Fox to reconsider its renewal of Kaitlin Olson comedy “The Mick.” “Tuesday nights just got a bit safer for children and families watching television,” organization president Tim Winter said in a media release. “ABC and Fox have canceled primetime programs that were routinely filled with sex, violence, and profanity, yet were marketed by the networks as appropriate for children. We call on the networks.

Fox, be warned: Winter is coming. Parents Television Council President Tim Winter wants “Scream Queens” off the air — or at least stripped of ad dollars from big-time sponsor McDonald’s. “The company that sells Happy Meals to kids, the company that has jungle gyms and playgrounds at their restaurants, seems to have charted a course that … really focuses on edgy fare content that is way more explicit than what they’ve done in years past,” Winter told TheWrap on Wednesday. The PTC wasn’t always this sour on the fast food chain, which used to be among its favorite sponsors.

Tim Winter, the president of the Parents Television Council, released a statement on Monday (July 21) to publicly denounce the “Wrecking Ball” babe’s gig, especially given that the VMAs are usually “profane” and “sexually explicit.”
“It’s not going to be safe for children to watch. So, they must rate it TV-ma. With Miley’s shtick, it’s probably going to be very edgy, very profane, very sexually explicit. It’s the great Olivia Pope getting it on, Charlie Brown!
The Parents Television Council – the self-appointed watchdog group of modesty on TV, the same people that blasted Glee for promoting “public masturbation," called Gossip Girl “mind-blowingly inappropriate” (only to have that sound bite used on all of the CW's ads), and have a long history of haaaaating Family Guy – has apparently finally found Scandal.
Not sure what took them so long (it’s trending on Twitter every week), but nonetheless, the PTC is leading a campaign against Scandal’s depiction of “graphic sex.” Again, not sure what took them so long, there has been So Much sex on this show.
So what finally tipped the scale for the PTC?
