While it manages to be entertaining, Safe Haven follows the Nicholas Sparks' established blueprint too closely and fails to truly make the characters matter. Thankfully, the film is in the very capable hands of director Lasse Hallström and benefits from the likeable chemistry of its leads Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel. It is not a bad movie, but it could have been better given the amount of talent involved.
