Wolverine is a character that was conceived to suffer. Throughout his history in comics, films, video games, and TV shows, the character has rarely known respite but carries on anyway. X-Men ’97 is no exception, finally giving the character his inevitable moment of torment in its latest episode.
Wolverine in X-Men ’97
As a character, Logan has often been described as a ronin, a samurai without a master, who is fiercely loyal to those he loves and is a victim of tragedy more often than fortune. It is perhaps this inevitability of ruin that causes Logan to struggle ever harder against his adversaries, especially when it comes to his family and friends, as we see in Episode 9 of X-Men ’97, Tolerance is Extinction Part 2.

X-Men ’97 is all set for its finale, which began with the first entry in a three-part saga with X-Men ’97 Episode 8, Tolerance is Extinction Part 1. There were a lot of stand-out moments from the episode, but the chief among them was when Magneto was able to escape from Bastion’s clutches and emit a global Emp that rendered the Prime Sentinels of the world and global the electrical grid dead.
Magneto in X-Men ’97
Seeing that Magneto had a very uneasy peace with humanity when he took over from Charles Xavier and that he declared war thanks to Bastion’s actions, the X-Men could be headed to a particularly brutal fight with the Master of Magnetism, one that could directly result in the emergence of a terrifying foe, who could be the antagonist for Season 2 of X-Men ’97.

James Mangold’s Logan is one of the most respected and critically acclaimed works surrounding the character of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman gave the performance of his life, and the story and script helped him through every step of the way. Although the film’s premise could not have been more beautiful and fans adored the direction the film took, many expected the story to follow the comic book series, Old Man Logan.
A still from Logan
While it did take some inspiration, the story is unique enough to have little to no proper source material. Many fans were surprised by such an approach, as the comic’s story was one of the most tragic and dark ones. It paints the picture of a barren world, having been ruled by villains for too many years.
While many would have chosen this story itself, Mangold revealed why he did not take such an approach.

Gambit is alive?! Well, it seems like it!
After being chopped from the superhit animated series X-Men ’97 (Spoilers For Whoever Still Hasn’T Watched It!) it sounds like the fan-favorite Remy LeBeau will soon be gracing fans’ eyes once again. Except that this time, he won’t be animated, but would be a live-action character played by Channing Tatum!

As magnificent of a surprise as this may be, fans will reportedly finally get a live-action appearance of the Ragin’ Cajun in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Directed by James Mangold and starring Dafne Keen alongside Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, Logan is widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero films ever made. The film’s excellence is attributed to both its talented cast and its director. However, credit for one of its most surprising moments undoubtedly belongs to the 19-year-old Spanish-British actress, who portrayed Logan’s daughter, Laura, also known as X-23 in the film.

I really don’t want to come down too harshly on this series. On a personal level, it just wasn’t for me, but there clearly is an audience for the character. Before I get into what is good and bad about these two final issues I want to reiterate my two biggest grievances with this series. I have mentioned it in every review of every issue so far, but why couldn’t we get an X-23 mini in the current Krakoan Era? To me, it just makes so much more sense. I only found out the other day that she is now going by Talon in the X-Books! She has been part of X-Men since this era launched so a Fall of X tie-in would have been perfect. All of the stuff...

Keep in mind that Laura Kinney is a better Hero than her father, Logan, but this isn’t to say that she’s reached his same legendary status yet. As far as being a better character, she still has a ways to go, and as far as surpassing her father goes, it hasn’t happened quite yet. The feeling is that it would be a wiser decision to bring in Laura Kinney as the next Wolverine in the MCU and to be fair, that’s not a bad idea. For one, it would eliminate the continual need to decide who’s more fit to play

DC fans would likely state that X-23 would have no chance against Lady Shiva, while Marvel fans might agree, or state that Laura Kinney would give Lady Shiva all she could handle and then some. In truth, this would be a good fight since both fighters are insanely skilled at martial arts and aren’t known for being easy to take down unless they’re trying to punch way above their weight class. Some would state that Lady Shiva could handle herself better than X-23 when it came to more powerful opponents, but the truth is that both of them would start

Logan star Dafne Keen has revealed that there were once plans for her to reprise her breakout role as Laura Kinney Aka X-23 in a sequel/spinoff to the acclaimed movie.
Fox delivered what’s probably the finest entry in their 20-year X-Men franchise in 2017, with Keen proving to be a hugely gifted young actress as she was able to hold her own opposite both Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart. Fans applauded the movie’s take on the fan favorite heroine and cried out to see more of her. Unfortunately, though, Fox being absorbed into Disney, and therefore the X-Men folding into the McU, has cooled the chances of that happening.
As far as Keen’s concerned, though, the possibility is not completely off the table. While speaking with Elle to promote His Dark Materials season 2, the star said she’d be willing to return to the part if she’s ever asked.

A lot of folks are convinced that we’ll never see Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney, aka X-23, ever again since once Disney took over Fox, it became likely that when they start to develop the X-Men and related characters that they’ll want to start from scratch, and it’s hard to deny such a thing. To be fair though it’s going to be hard to find someone to replace Keen since she played such a great role in Logan, and was as good as it gets since she had to play a female version of the aging mutant, and a young

The New Mutants is, at long last, set to make its debut in April – two whole years after its intended release. Indeed, the film was designed as a tonally off-beat expansion of Fox’s long-held X-Men movie rights, but Disney’s 2019 acquisition of the studio temporarily rendered it an abandoned oddity. However, director Josh Boone thinks the film still has something to offer, and, in a new interview with EW, dispels the long-held notion that it was subject to extensive reshoots.
Boone, also known as the director of 2014’s The Fault in Our Stars, finally dished about the delays that plagued The New Mutants movie, and, most importantly, directly addressed the reshoot rumors, which – besides giving the impression that the film was lacking in its first cut – implied a few (false) things, from the late addition of Jon Hamm as villain Mister Sinister to Daphne Keen appearing as her Logan character,...

“His Dark Materials,” the multi-universe fantasy trilogy by British author Philip Pullman, has historically proved to be a bit of daemon to adapt for the screen.
Chris Weitz, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig gave it a crack back in 2007, and the result was a critically-panned, middling box office-performing feature film which, many felt, leant too heavily on the CGI and strayed too far from the source material. But now there is another attempt: the HBO-BBC co-production which brings the feisty young Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen) and the icy Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) to the small screen for the first time. Executive producer Jane Tranter tells Variety that the intention from the moment she began circling the rights in 2015 was to produce a more faithful retelling which brought out “the depth, breadth and layers” of Pullman’s books.
“I read the novels as Philip Pullman first published them in the ’90s and thought,...

The “dark and gritty superhero movie” has been one of blockbuster cinema’s most beloved tropes for over a decade, but while some of the more adult-skewing comic book adaptations have flamed out — like critically savaged DC offerings “Suicide Squad” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” — a handful have succeeded. One such standout: filmmaker James Mangold’s pair of X-Men movies focused on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, including the PG-13 “The Wolverine” and its haunting R-rated follow-up “Logan.”
While a spinoff of the film and its breakout character X-23 has been chattered about since its release in 2017, news on the project has remained scarce in recent months. The X-Men franchise as a whole is in a state of flux, thanks to both the recent acquisition of home studio Fox by Disney and lackluster recent entries like this year’s disappointing “Dark Phoenix.” And yet Mangold himself remains dedicated to...

After Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film, Logan, was released in theaters, I was hoping that we would see a spinoff film that focused on the young Laura Kinney a.k.a. X-23. Logan was an incredible film and the way X-23 was utilized in that story was perfect.
Well, now that Disney owns the rights to these characters, the chance of seeing a continuation of the story of that version of X-23 is very low. But, director James Mangold is still very much interested in making that movie!
During a recent interview, the director spoke with The Playlist about his desire to direct a movie about X-23, and when asked about it, he said, "Do I have an interest? Yes." But, he doesn’t think it’ll happen anytime soon. He goes on to say, "Will it happen? At least in the near future, I doubt it."

One of the most challenging issues Marvel faces now that they have the rights to the X-Men is how to reboot Wolverine, given the popularity of Hugh Jackman’s portrayal in Fox’s films. One idea might be to shunt him off into a different medium though and, instead of making more solo movies for the character, give him his own TV series.
We Got This Covered has been told by our sources – the same ones who revealed that Tom Welling would be back for “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which was then confirmed last week – that Marvel wants to do a Wolverine Disney Plus show in the near future. We previously reported on this possibility back in June and from what we understand, it’s still on the cards. At the time, we were told it categorically wouldn’t feature Jackman in the role, though we’ve since heard that...

Marvel fans haven’t stopped theorizing about who could play Wolverine in the McU since Marvel got the rights back from Fox, but maybe they haven’t given enough thought to the possibilities of X-23 in the franchise. Laura Kinney, Logan’s cloned daughter, has been a hugely important figure in the comic book world over the past few years, so it only makes sense that the studio will do a lot with the character as well.
At least, that’s what We Got This Covered is hearing. According to our sources – the same ones who told us Robert Pattinson was locked in as Batman, and that an Aladdin sequel was in development, both of which were later confirmed – Marvel has plans to bring X-23 into the McU once they get around to rebooting the X-Men. Don’t get us wrong, they’ve also got big ideas for Wolverine, too,...

Flash Forward #1 moves Wally West past the controversial events of DC's Heroes in Crisis.
Heroes In Crisis was an incredible book. It told an extremely important story, delivering a critical message to an audience probably not used to hearing it. It also kind of breaks the superhero formula.
The biggest split between DC and Marvel characters has always been what the characters are best at doing. Marvel has the street level folks, the people with regular problems who also have to deal with being superheroes. DC heroes have always been the icons, the Olympian gods shining a light and showing us what we can be if we strive hard enough.
The point where they converge, though, is on legacy characters. Laura Kinney, Miles Morales, or Bucky all face their regular person problems in the Marvel Universe, but they also face problems fitting into or adjusting the...

If I were to ask you the name of Wolverine’s daughter, odds are you’d quickly respond with either “X-23” or her everyday name of “Laura Kinney.” After having been originally introduced on the X-Men: Evolution animated series, this character proved popular enough to be integrated into comics canon. And later on down the line, she even featured in the major motion picture, Logan.
Well, if recent events wind up going in the direction it appears they’ll head, then another gal’s name will become an acceptable response (though you may already split hairs over Amiko Kobayashi). Before I lay it out, know that it remains to be seen if the focus of today’s conversation is a clone like X-23, or actually happens to be the biological daughter of Wolverine.
You see, in Marvel Comics Presents #6, the X-Men lineup from the 1990s found themselves facing a demon known as the Truth,...

Fox’s X-Men spinoff movie, The New Mutants, remains up in the air, especially after Disney’s acquisition of the company.
The New Mutants movie has had things rough, and that doesn’t appear to be changing as the film heads toward its planned August release date. Indeed, the film – spotlighting Marvel Comics’ classic spinoff title about an auxiliary X-Men team of the Professor Xavier’s younger students – had been the subject of reports citing obstacles and delays, which reportedly led to reshoots. While the film finally settled on a date after being shuffled on 20th Century Fox’s release calendar, co-star Maisie Williams just dropped some (not at all encouraging) bombshells about its status.
In a lengthy Rolling Stone interview piece primarily focused on the impending conclusion of her Game of Thrones role of Arya Stark (and Sophie Turner’s role as Sansa Stark), Williams – who,...

I guess we are calling this one the long over due edition. The comic shop where I get my mail subscriptions are changing the way they handle this procedure, so here are February’s Wolverine related comics finally reviewed even if it doesn’t feel very relevant now!
The Return of Wolverine #5 Writer: Charles Soule | Artist: Steve McNiven | Inker: Jay Leisten | Colourist: Laura Martin | Letters: Joe Sabino
After five issues (and all the ones that came before) Wolverine is officially back I guess? This mini series reached a unsatisfactory conclusion both from a story stand point and a hard core Wolverine fan stand point. This issue is largely dedicated to supposed super new threat Persephone revealing her grand plan for Wolverine. The hows and whys of why she brought him back to the land of the living. All rather paint by numbers villainous scheming really. When Persephone uttered the phrase...

Another year in the books, another batch of incredible comics for you to read! These are the best comics of 2018.
Comics, like all art, can be a mirror on society or a safe harbor from its worst tendencies, and thankfully again in 2018, we got some incredible books this year. I’ve been watching our pull lists since the calendar flipped in January, keeping an eye out for the best comics to share with you, and we’ve finally cut it down to just 10. But first, a few honorable mentions.
Yoshitoki Oima’s To Your Eternity was probably the best new manga I read this year, but I kept it off the list because as good as the newest volumes are, the first one is stellar and it was published too early. Transformers: Unicron is a great way to end a fascinating era of Transformers comics, one that...

Marvel Comics' "X-23" #7. starring 'Laura Kinney', the daughter of 'Logan' the 'Wolverine', is written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Diego Orlotegui, with a cover by Ashley Witter, available December 12, 2018:
"...'Laura' and 'Gabby' are on the crime-fighting hunt against a group of homicidal creeps.
"But when Laura comes face-to-face with the mysterious 'X-Assassin', all hell breaks loose..."
Laura Kinney aka 'X-23' was created by writer Craig Kyle for Marvel's "X-Men: Evolution" TV series (2003), before debuting in the "Nyx" comic book series (2004).
Since then the character has headlined two six-issue miniseries written by Kyle and Christopher Yost, a one-shot and self-titled series written by Marjorie Liu and "All-New Wolverine" by Tom Taylor.
She was a clone from a DNA sample belonging to 'Logan', the 'Wolverine'. For years, she worked for the criminal organization the 'Facility', before attending...

While we’re sure that many of you enjoyed reading Laura Kinney’s adventures as the All-New Wolverine, it stands to reason that a chunk of the fanbase will forever view her simply as X-23. Knowing this – and possibly having something to do with her onscreen counterpart being well received in Logan – Marvel recently rolled out a new solo series spotlighting the cult favorite.
Speaking of which, in a move somewhat similar to that of Bucky Barnes handing back the Captain America mantle to Steve Rogers, there naturally has to be a reason why Laura isn’t calling herself Wolverine anymore. In reality, it probably has much to do with Logan’s return from the dead and his reclaiming of the limelight, but that’s not going to suffice in a fictional world.
Thanks to writer Mariko Tamaki, X-23 #3 provided just the answer we needed. In short, our heroine has...

Well, it’s really starting to look like the summer of 2018 is the time for Marvel to make controversial changes to its characters’ origins. Having already tweaked Venom’s beginnings last month, the House of Ideas are back at it with another surprising twist that could prove divisive.
This time, it’s none other than X-23 who’s experiencing a seismic shift. Originally introduced in the wonderful animated series that was X-Men: Evolution back in the day, Laura Kinney’s since gone on to appear in countless comics and even the feature film that was Logan – and the one thing that followed her into each medium was her being a clone of Wolverine.
As it turns out, though, we can now throw that knowledge out the window because, thanks to Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #4, it’s been revealed that Laura is actually not a clone. That’s right, to quote Tank from The Matrix,...
