Nicole Kidman played Hollywood’s leading lady for several years, but the actress wanted more from her profession other than being the eye candy. This is what she felt after starring in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever in 1995.

The DC fandom is anxiously waiting for James Gunn’s Dcu to finally hit the screens. There are a lot of hopes and expectations from the budding cinematic universe, as Gunn slowly cooks up his stories in hushed tones. Despite the Dceu ending in failure, one of its key elements, its casting choices, remains highly popular even to this day. From Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel to Gal Gadot’s Daughter of Zeus, fans came to revere their on-screen representations.

DC Studios‘ last gasp before James Gunn reboots the Dcu is coming to the Max streaming service later this month. Swimming onto the platform on February 27, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom debuted in theaters last year during the Christmas holiday stretch. Unfortunately, the James Wan-directed Aquaman 2 floated on the surface of the box office like a dead fish, with $123 million domestically and $433 million worldwide. In contrast, Aquaman netted $335M in the United States and $1.1B worldwide. The difference in dollars earned between both films is staggering, with multiple culprits to blame for the film’s failure, including wild on-set rumors, Amber Heard’s legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, and DC jumping the gun on its plans to reboot the Dceu.

In director Roger Ross Williams’ Cassandro, we first meet Saúl Armendáriz — the real-life luchador portrayed by Gael García Bernal — when he’s still scraping his way through the amateur circuit. He’s got an uphill battle ahead: Not only is he smaller and lighter than most of his brawny opponents, he’s also openly gay and the subject of taunts and jeers from his leotard-clad colleagues.
And then, about 20 minutes in, Cassandro arrives. Armendáriz decides to embrace a new identity as one of lucha libre’s exoticos, extravagant male fighters...

Despite seeming to take small steps forward with both The Flash and Blue Beetle earlier this year, the DC Extended Cinematic Universe (Dcecu) suffers a calamitous setback with the arrival of the atrocious sequel to 2018’s Aquaman – Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The bewildering and often aimless story within Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is concentrated primarily on the exploits of David Kane as he searches for the means to defeat Aquaman in the most brutal and destructive way possible. This forces Aquaman to make peace with his brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson), to have even a remote chance at stopping Black Manta before he causes catastrophic ecological destruction to the planet.
While the first Aquaman film tread water between mediocre and awful, the sequel dives deeper into the morass of convoluted plot tangents and overblown villains that have plagued the Dcecu since inception. Working with a story penned by himself,...

The first "Aquaman" was a huge surprise, a movie that made Aquaman gritty and serious but also goofy and funny. Sure, the movie had a very generic plot, but it shined when it went full bonkers, like when Julie Andrews voiced a sea monster, or when the film played a Pitbull cover of Toto's "Africa" during a scene where Aquaman heads to the Sahara desert.
"Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom" has glimpses of that greatness when its core adventure finally gets going, but we have to slog through some stuff before that. The opening minutes in particular don't do a good job of selling this movie, with a montage of Arthur Curry taking care of his newborn son while also kicking ass as Aquaman, while at the same time also being rather bored at his job as King of Atlantis. It is a montage that screams last-minute reshoot, with...

The release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a mere week away, which means that the DC Extended Universe will be coming to an end, but will it be the last time we see Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis?
Unfortunately, Jason Momoa seems to think so. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight‘s Ash Crossan, the actor said, “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice… The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility. But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’“
With James Gunn and Peter Safran setting the stage for a new DC Universe, very few actors will be reprising their Dceu roles. Even if Jason Momoa doesn’t return as Aquaman, he hopes that he will still have a part...

Brotherly love is hard to come by in the superhero arena. While some siblings live for a good old-fashioned team-up, others often find themselves at opposite ends, clawing their way up the family tree for favoritism and supremacy. When DC‘s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom swims into theaters, Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson) must set their differences aside and work together to save a kingdom from Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
Promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is ramping up ahead of the film’s December 22 release in theaters, with horror mastermind James Wan again in the director’s chair. While Wan fills the sequel with many terrifying creatures from the blackest depths, he’s unafraid to inject humor into Arthur and Orm’s combative relationship dynamic. Warner Bros. has revealed a new trailer for James Wan’s sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time: ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.

Since his breakthrough role as Aquaman, Jason Momoa has become a sought-after actor known for his rugged charm, imposing presence, and impressive range. His performance as the King of Atlantis in the standalone Aquaman movie further cemented his status as a bankable star who can carry a blockbuster franchise. Momoa’s physicality and screen presence have made him a popular choice for action roles, and his experience playing warriors and fighters have demonstrated his ability to deliver intense and memorable performances. However, Momoa has also showcased his versatility as an actor with roles in the drama series Frontier and the post-apocalyptic...

Director JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions, will kick off a new live-action TV series for HBO Max, based on Vertigo Comics "Madame X" (aka "Madame Xanadu"), a character identified with 'Nimue', a 'sorceress' from 'Arthurian' mythology made popular by Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur":
"..'Nimue Inwudu' is the youngest sister of 'Morgana' (aka 'Morgaine Le Fay') and 'Vivienne', the 'Lady of the Lake'. The sisters are descendants of the 'Elder Folk', survivors of 'Atlantis' who evolved into the race known as the 'Homo magi'.
"She cast an imprisoning spell on her former lover 'Merlin', blaming him for manipulating 'Camelot' and the course of history for his own gain. Merlin has the last laugh, though, as he succeeds in stripping her magic away from her, forcing her to use potions to maintain her immortality.
"Nimue wanders the world for some time, becoming an advisor to many great rulers.

After the revelations of Amber Heard’s abuse that came out in Johnny Depp’s libel trial against a British tabloid newspaper, people have been calling for her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 to be recast. And one popular fan choice, that of Emilia Clarke, now has some new fan art suggesting how she might look in the role.

Back in the early days of the Justice League movie marketing there was a phrase that piqued the curiosity of DC fans: “Unite the Seven.”
“Unite the Seven” was the text that accompanied the first official image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman in early 2015, over a year before the release of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. At the time it was generally assumed to mean one of two things: either Aquaman was destined to “unite the seven seas” when he becomes King of Atlantis or it meant that the cinematic Justice League of the Dceu would consist of seven members.
Well, you do the math. Justice League brought us a team consisting of Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman, which even using the most creative “studio math” still only leaves us with six members. But with all of the changes to Snyder’s vision...

The Fantastic Four have been the subjects of four feature-length movies, and only the most forgiving of viewers would deem the high-point of any of them as being anything above mediocre at best.
The string of poor adaptations hasn’t just affected the titular team, either, and there’s no doubt plenty of viewers left wondering why Doctor Doom is regarded as one of the most iconic villains in comic book history when the character has consistently been such a damp squib on the big screen.
With the rights to the Fantastic Four and their associates now in the hands of Marvel Studios though, fans will be hoping that the First Family of Marvel will get a feature-length adaptation that will finally do their reputation justice, and it seems more than likely that Doctor Doom will have a key part to play in it. We still haven’t seen a whole lot of the first generation of superheroes in the Dceu, but Warner Bros. still has plans to dive into the wide DC comics universe and bring many legacy heroes to life soon. We Got This Covered has previously brought you the news that Wally West may appear in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, setting him up to replace Barry Allen down the line. Likewise, Nubia will be introduced as the second Wonder Woman at some point.
A similar situation is already being sketched out for Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, too. According to our sources – the same ones who told us Diana will get her golden eagle armor in Wonder Woman 1984, a Green Lantern series is coming to HBO Max and that Kevin Conroy was playing Kingdom Come Batman in “Crisis” – an endpoint for Arthur Curry’s career as the protector of the seas is in sight.

Aquaman is coming to HBO Max.
The nascent WarnerMedia streamer has ordered a three-part animated series titled “Aquaman: King of Atlantis.” James Wan, who directed on worked on the story for the 2018 live-action “Aquaman” film, is onboard to executive produce the animated series.
“King of Atlantis” will begin with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident.
“This DC property is a fan-favorite rich with well-known characters and dynamic storylines,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max.

My first thought on hearing about this book, when published as three oversized issues, was did we really need another Superman origin/ early years book? There’s been a few down the years, and for me Mark Waid’s Birthright was pretty much the definitive take on a solid, updated origin. Still, when Frank Miller rolls up with some ideas, doors open and people listen. Miller still seems to be treated like royalty at DC, even though his more recent body of work is uneven, to put it nicely. Don’t get me wrong, Frank Miller’s runs on Daredevil, his Sin City and 300 books, and of course The Dark Knight Returns remain some of my favourite comics ever. For me though, Miller fit those times perfectly, and hasn’t really been the same since.

The BBC’s Philip Pullman adaptation is a rich family fantasy that retains the books’ dark power…
This His Dark Materials review is spoiler-free. It was originally published on Den of Geek UK.
Current wisdom teaches that the age of family home viewing is over; parents and kids no longer crowd around the TV in a tumble of wet-from-the-bath hair, pyjamas and shushing. Instead, they’re dispersed around the home and plugged into separate devices.
That may be largely so, but it’s not the whole picture. In 2017, Ofcom reported that 70% of UK families still watch a shared TV programme at least once a week. If you’re among them and open to suggestion, then from Sunday the 3rd of November, make it this one.
In terms of family viewing, His Dark Materials is the real thing: as Douglas Adams might have said, it’s both complicated...

Universal 1440 Entertainment has released a new thrilling, intense, and action-packed teaser trailer for Doom: Annihilation. There’s not a lot of footage in the trailer, but as you’ll see it still packs in a lot of cool footage filled with monsters and mayhem.
This isn’t a big-budget Doom movie being released in theaters. This is going straight to home entertainment release, but it still looks like it’ll be a fun flick to watch! Here’s the synopsis:
On the darkest moon of Mars, scientists have found an ancient portal which allows teleportation throughout the universe. Considered to be mankind’s greatest discovery, it’s actually a gateway from hell, unleashing a swarm of demons looking to steal the souls of everyone who gets in their way. It’s up to Lieutenant Joan Dark and an elite unit of Marines to destroy an ever-growing horde of bloodsucking...

Well, that was fast! Earlier this morning we shared some first look photos from the upcoming new Doom film, Doom: Annihilation. Now Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for you to watch, and it actually looks like it will be kinda fun.
This film didn’t get the epic big-budget treatment, but there are aspects of the trailer that I like, like that big-ass gun and crazy creatures. It’s also said to be an "intense action-packed" movie. This is only a 30-second teaser, but I’m looking forward to seeing more.
Doom: Annihilation follows a group of space marines as they respond to a distress call from a base on a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth.
The “space marines” have been confirmed to be the Uac marines, who are the same team from the video game franchise.

Sunday Update, writethru: During a busy post-holiday holdover/expansion frame overseas, Warner Bros’ Aquaman showed his muscle again, cruising well past the $900M mark globally as he charts a course for $1B. After holding the No. 1 spot at the international box office for four straight weekends, however (and as expected), he ceded the slot to Paramount’s Bumblebee which buzzed into China on Friday.
The yellow Bug grossed $82.7M in 63 markets this session, including China where it revved up with a No. 1 start of $59.4M at 9,180 locations. With $6.1M from 584 Middle Kingdom IMAX screens, Bumblebee logged the format’s 3rd best January start there ever.
Transformers movies are typically strong in China, although 2017’s The Last Knight didn’t catch fire the way Age Of Extinction had in 2014. Bumblebee is a different kind of Transformers and is connecting with local audiences giving it positive word of mouth. The Hailee Steinfeld...

Young Justice: Outsiders continues to revel in its deep cut DC Universe continuity. Also it's still really good.
This Young Justice review contains spoilers.
Young Justice Season 3 Episode 2
While the first episode of Outsiders was dark table-setting, the second episode is mostly just a blast. And not just because of that Un scene. Let's get that out of the way first, though. And see if we can do it without squealing.
We at the Den are shameless Christopher Priest fans. In addition to Deathstroke, he had the best run of Black Panther of all time, and in it was maybe my favorite single comic scene ever: T'Challa, Namor, Magneto and Doctor Doom all yelling at each other about realpolitik outside the Un. So, friends, when we got a shouting match at the Un between an Aqualad, Donna Troy, and Kaizen Gamorra (the guy the Authority killed in the first arc...

(Some minor spoilers ahead for “Aquaman”)
With “Aquaman” finally hitting theaters, moviegoers are curious as to whether the latest big screen DC adventure actually connects to 2017’s “Justice League,” or if director James Wan and his team opted to pretend that whole thing never happened.
The question arises because “Aquaman” feels an awful lot like a new start for the DC Extended Universe after the troubled “Justice League,” which was the lowest earner of the recent DC lineup and was generally not well liked by critics or moviegoers. So it’s legit to wonder if “Aquaman” might want to make a clean break from the baggage that “Justice League” represents.
While you could certainly refer to “Aquaman” as a soft reboot for DC, it does not cut ties completely with what came before — while “Aquaman” works like an origin story for the superhero, the film does briefly acknowledge that the...

(Spoilers ahead for the mid-credits scene from “Aquaman.” You have been warned.)
So here we are, finally, getting the first new film based on a DC Comics property since the maligned “Justice League.” But while “Aquaman” does briefly acknowledge that the events of that movie happened, it otherwise is actually kind of a soft reboot of this whole thing, otherwise totally divorced from the Zack Snyder era of DC movies.
That divorce even includes something the Snyder films and “Wonder Woman” famously eschewed: a mid-credits teaser.
The scene, which comes about 5 minutes into the credits, reveals that Black Manta survived his battle with Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and introduces a new villain — Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park.

When we last saw Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) in the film proper, he was in a bad spot.

Fans seem to be loving the hell out of James Wan’s Aquaman. I recently had a chance to see it for myself and I thought it was great! It was incredibly entertaining and is easily one of the best DC films. It’s a far from perfect film, though. It looks visually awesome, but the writing was weak. As far as writing goes, Wonder Woman is still the superior film.
Anyway, if you’re a super fan of the film and you’re looking for a super collectible to flaunt your fandom, Hot Toys has the best action figure you can find for the character, wearing his classic suit. Here are the details:

After the overwhelming disappointment that was last November’s Justice League, we’ve come to expect that the future of the Worlds of DC franchise will be mostly standalone. Despite his starring role in 2017’s team-up movie, then, we weren’t expecting Jason Momoa’s first solo vehicle, Aquaman to reference that film’s events very much, and it turns out we were right.
For the most part, the narrative is mostly disconnected from what went on in Justice League. However, the movie does feature one key reference to the time when Arthur Curry joined forces with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to save the world.
When Mera comes to Amnesty Bay to get Arthur to help her stop King Orm from waging a war against the surface world, she tries to convince the reluctant hero by reminding him that he previously helped rescue Atlantis when he...

When you have a character that can communicate with fish, you either tread hesitantly in the shallow end or dive right in and embrace the rocky waters. Director James Wan shows no signs of a fear of water. The world of Aquaman is certainly goofy and Wan leans happily into the goofiness and cheese, but as customary with his flashy directing style, there’s a level of cool splashed in as well. The aquatic hero’s first solo film is a bright and bold visual adventure, but it’s also bogged down by an overly familiar superhero story preventing it from standing out from the other fish in the sea.
Jason Momoa plays half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry. After Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) washes up on the shore of a lighthouse attendant (Temuera Morrison), the queen of Atlantis falls in love with the human world and give birth to Arthur. Flash forward decades later,...

As you can probably guess, the Aquaman mid-credits scene sets up Aquaman 2 and more adventures in the Dceu in a few key ways.
This article consists of nothing but Aquaman spoilers.
Aquaman sure got a lot of work done in its 150 minute runtime didn't it? We not only got Arthur Curry's origin story, but the introduction of two of his greatest villains with Ocean Master and Black Manta, and an entire undersea mythology for the Dceu. It even found time to give Black Manta an origin story of his own on screen. And while Ocean Master and his familial ties to Aquaman certainly make him the more important of the two baddies, Black Manta has long been the most recognizable, the most iconic, and the most popular, thanks in no small part to his starring role on the Challenge of the Super Friends animated series.

With Aquaman, the Warner Bros. superhero spectacle that opens in North America on Friday, director James Wan had every reason to feel like a fish out of water.
After all, the Australian filmmaker minted his Hollywood reputation within the horror genre by displaying a golden (and grisly) touch with hard-r hits with lean budgets and fat profits..
That background seems to be a million nautical miles removed from the job of directing Aquaman, a PG-13 crowdpleaser that takes audiences to the submerged and iridescent splendor of Atlantis, the lost city of myth. A massive undertaking, the movie logged 172 days of principal photography with stops in Queensland, Morocco, Italy and Canada.

While the final box office verdict is still a ways out yet, Warner Bros. will be breathing a sigh of relief that Aquaman seems to be a hit with audiences. Well, Chinese audiences at any rate, as the film has already scooped up an impressive $260 million from the overseas market in advance of its domestic release on December 21st. While we don’t know whether the pic will go on to be an outright smashing success, it seems that there’s little chance of it being an outright flop – so naturally, talk’s turned to plans for Aquaman 2.
Jason Momoa was quizzed about what the future could hold for Arthur Curry and Atlantis by Collider, and was specifically asked which heroes might guest star in his film. Unsurprisingly, he picked two of his Justice League co-stars, saying:
“I love Flash. I absolutely love [actor] Ezra [Miller], he’s like family to me.

We’ve already seen a whole load of footage from the Aquaman movie – too much, if you ask some fans – but with the film’s highly anticipated release now less than three weeks away, Warner Bros. continues to add to the feature’s extensive body of promotional material with the first official clip.
In the final moments of the five-minute Aquaman trailer released in October, Mera tells Arthur Curry that Atlantis has “always had a king [but] now it needs something more…a hero.” Going by this new footage, however, a new king probably wouldn’t hurt either, as Amber Heard’s heroine and Willem Dafoe’s Nuidis Vulko try to convince Arthur to win the hearts and minds of the people by retrieving the Trident of Neptune.
Presumably, this scene is taken from the early parts of the movie, before Jason Momoa’s character has set off on his next big adventure,...

After making a quick cameo in Batman V Superman and showing up as one part of the ensemble in Justice League, Arthur Curry is finally about to take the spotlight in James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman, and if the early critic reactions and box office projections are anything to go by, then the pic will surely get the hero’s cinematic solo career off to a strong start.
After all, this will be our first proper introduction to Arthur, as well as the underwater world he inhabits, and based on Wan’s interviews, the director seems very proud of what he’s created for the character’s first big screen standalone outing. In fact, he even told us earlier this year that he convinced Zack Snyder not to introduce Atlantis in Justice League so he’d have more of a clean slate to work with.

Aquaman plays like superhero movie mad libs, but James Wan captains the ship with just enough style to keep it from sinking.
My how the blockbuster landscape has changed in just under 15 years. Once upon a time, superhero movies were still such a novelty that the mere prospect of an Aquaman film was treated as a yearlong joke on Entourage. Now he’s the actual star of a legitimate and lavish Hollywood spectacle. In the time since then, however, a sort of genre shorthand has taken root, leaving us with an Aquaman that’s come so late to the party it resembles the first attempt at superhero movie mad libs.
With plot elements coincidentally similar to this year’s Black Panther, and other far less innocent resemblances to the works of Richard Donner, Sam Raimi, and a legion of comparable navigators on these familiar tides, there is nary a moment...

Between the underwhelming box office performance of Justice League and a main character who’s been the butt of countless jokes over the years, James Wan’s Aquaman has faced an uphill battle in earning the interest and respect of the filmgoing public. But despite these obstacles and more, the Dceu’s next entry has accumulated some commendable levels of hype for itself, and now that the movie’s social media embargo has been lifted, the future is looking all the brighter for the Jason Momoa-led flick.
This new banner for the film probably won’t hurt matters either, showing Aquaman’s title hero emerging from the water with his trident in hand and ready to rock. The image has been unveiled as an online poster, and can also be seen out in public.

You won’t see “Aquaman” reviews for some time, but the social-media levy has broken and the first wave of reactions has crashed online. Perhaps surprisingly, they’re almost all highly positive — James Wan’s entry in the Dceu has been called “an absolute blast,” “breathtakingly beautiful,” and “an undersea Star Wars” by those who’ve seen the superhero movie starring Jason Momoa.
Here are the first impressions:
Against all odds, I really dug #Aquaman, which offers thrills chills and a whole lotta adventure for the whole family! Also the president of the United States is a demonstrably evil racist and there appears to be nothing we can do about that! See it on the biggest screen possible

Jason Momoa’s conflicted underwater ruler, Arthur Curry, grapples with destiny in the latest and final trailer for Aquaman, director James Wan’s upcoming film based on the DC Comics superhero. The clip opens with Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), the protagonist’s mother, telling a child Curry about an ancient legend: “One day,” she says, “a new king will come who will use the power of the trident to put Atlantis back together again.”
As a teenager, Curry trains with Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe) to achieve that fate. “You have to...
