The collectible makers at Funko have created a large line of Pop figures based on Hocus Pocus 2. There are, of course, all three Sanderson sisters, but also the new characters Cassie, Becca, Izzy, and Gilbert. Surprisingly, a new Billy Butcherson figure isn’t in the line-up. But there is The Witch Mother – and while the other Hocus Pocus 2 POPs will be available wherever POPs are sold, the Witch Mother figure will only be available through the Funko website. So if you want to get your hands on this one, head over to Funko.com before all the Witch Mother figures are sold!
ThatHashtagShow informs, “The Witch Mother plays a brief but significant role in the Disney feature Hocus Pocus 2. The character, portrayed by Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, meets the Sanderson sisters when they’re still children. Sensing witchy potential in young Winifred, the Witch Mother gives the sisters their iconic spellbook.

If you're on the fence about watching "Hocus Pocus 2," Hannah Waddingham's cameo is more than enough reason to slam that "play" button. The British Emmy winner stars in the Disney sequel as Mother Witch, a silver-haired sorceress who gives the Sanderson sisters their spellbook. Despite her pivotal role in the trio's villain origin story - I mean, who would they be without Bookie? - Waddingham's Mother Witch has criminally limited screen time that clocks in at less than five minutes.
Performance-length concerns aside, let's unpack and appreciate Waddingham's masterpiece of a scene, shall we? When a young Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson flee Salem, Ma, to the Forbidden Woods, they encounter a red-and-black-feathered bird that swoops down from a tree branch and transforms into Mother Witch. With glowing eyes, curly hair, and silver face gems, she's a mesmerizing sight to behold in the otherwise drab forest.

Hocus Pocus has had quite an afterlife. It’s been 29 years since a virgin first lit the black flame candle, resurrecting a trio of Salem witches and igniting the breathless disdain of film critics. An overboiling cauldron of garish performances, baroque plotting, and immortal cats, the 1993 Disney comedy was called “an unholy mess” by The New York Times, while the venerable critic Roger Ebert said the film was “desperately in need of self-discipline”. But this October the Disney-run US channel Freeform will air Hocus Pocus 13 times across 31 days. One studio’s mess is a wholly owned subsidiary’s black magic.

Amok, amok, amok! Something wicked this way comes in the form of a "Hocus Pocus" sequel. The original film premiered back in 1993, but now, almost 30 years later, we're heading back to Salem for more Halloween hijinks. On Sept. 9 at D23 Expo, Disney shared a new trailer for the movie, which revealed some things about the plot. A trio of girls living in Salem get a candle from the proprietor of their local witchy store. When they light it, trying to awaken their own magic powers, they instead bring back the Sanderson Sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. The sisters soon plunge Salem into chaos once again.
On Sept. 14, a new clip was released, showing the sisters hilariously taking to the sky using whatever they can find in a store. Sarah uses a Swiffer, while Mary finds a robotic vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, Winifred sticks to the traditional broom.

Over the past three decades, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have become unexpected camp Halloween icons — a status earned by endless Disney Channel and cable reruns of "Hocus Pocus," Kenny Ortega's 1993 fantasy family comedy that most will fondly look back upon as a stone-cold childhood classic. The reality is that "Hocus Pocus" is just all right — a movie buoyed by the charisma of its stars and by Ortega's own musical theatre chops.
But at this point, the ardor for "Hocus Pocus" has taken a life of its own, burying the movie's actual quality underneath Halloween festivals, drag shows, and karaoke singalongs. "Hocus Pocus" has become more iconography than movie, and its sequel, "Hocus Pocus 2," is a direct result of that.

Twenty-nine years ago, the Sanderson sisters, an abrasive trio of siblings, put a spell on Disney audiences. Or at least they tried to.
Kenny Ortega’s Hocus Pocus wasn’t initially met with critical or even commercial acclaim, but over the years the entertainingly odd Halloween film has gained a cult following. My younger sisters and I came to the movie years after its release — an accidental encounter while browsing channels. We relished in its weird, off-kilter tone. From then on, watching Winnie (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) chase young children through Salem, Mass., on Halloween night became our tradition.

A few years back, original Hocus Pocus star Thora Birch had expressed interest in returning for the sequel, which is now coming to Disney+ this Friday, September 30. Birch, however, isn’t back in Hocus Pocus 2 alongside the other legacy stars from the original classic, and the actress explains why in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that went live this week.
The reason Thora Birch isn’t in Hocus Pocus 2? Scheduling issues.
Thora Birch tells Entertainment Tonight, “I was just a little dismayed I wasn’t able to make it. I was working on something else when they were filming. Otherwise I was definitely going to be there on set with the girls.”
“I can’t wait to see what they do with it,” Birch continues, “I know they’re taking a completely different, fresh approach, so I’m excited.”

For years, there was talk about making a sequel to the 1993 cult favorite Hocus Pocus. After spending some time in development hell, Hocus Pocus 2 finally made it into production recently and is now set to be released through the Disney+ streaming service on September 30th. Unfortunately, when the sequel did get made, it happened to be at a time when the first film’s cast member Thora Birch was too busy to participate.
According to Collider, Birch’s character Dani Dennison was originally supposed to have a prominent role in Hocus Pocus 2, where she would have teamed up with a group of teenagers to battle the returning trio of witches, the Sanderson Sisters. But there was a scheduling issue – and speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Birch told them she was “dismayed” she had to miss out on the movie.

It was a family affair for Sarah Jessica Parker at the “Hocus Pocus 2” premiere Tuesday night. Parker hit the red carpet for the first look at the long-anticipated sequel with her husband, Matthew Broderick, and their twin daughters Tabitha and Marion, 13.
Parker nearly matched the purple carpet in a pink and silver ensemble that saw the “And Just Like That…” actress in a sparkling tunic, adorned with a floral design, which featured blue, purple and pink accents. She topped the tunic over light pink harem pants, completing the look with a pair of magenta pumps and a navy blue clutch.
For his part, Broderick went dapper in a brown, tweed suit, while their daughters opted for a pair of gorgeous gowns — one mimicking Parker’s color palette, while the other dressed in black.

In the most recent trailer for Hocus Pocus 2, we get a taste of some backstory footage that’s set over 300 years prior to the events of the original movie, revealing that we’re going to be meeting the Sanderson Sisters as kids in the upcoming sequel. Ahead of Hocus Pocus 2 arriving on Disney+ on September 30, producer David Kirschner teases that trip into the past.
The Broadway Podcast network’s hit show The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul, hosted by actor & journalist Robert Peterpaul, just debuted the first part of their interview with Kirschner, the creator of Hocus Pocus and the producer of the new sequel. The Art of Kindness spotlights kindness in the arts through intimate conversations with industry powerhouses who use their platforms to make the world a better place. Kirschner joined Peterpaul to discuss the kindness of making the cult classic, along with what to expect from the upcoming sequel.

"If we intend to live past sunrise, we have to steal their souls!" Disney has debuted the second trailer for Hocus Pocus 2, arriving 29 years after the original movie became a fan favorite. The three witches are back for more fun - and souls: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reunite for this sequel. The live-action, long awaited follow-up to the perennial Halloween classic, which brings back the delightfully wicked Sanderson Sisters for more mayhem, will debut on Disney+ at the end of September just in time for Halloween season. The sisters return to modern day Salem, and three friends must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches. Hocus Pocus 2's cast also features Doug Jones, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belisa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Nina Kitchen, and Taylor Paige Henderson. This definitely does look like a direct-to-tv sequel most of us should avoid.

Early on in “Vanquish,” Ruby Rose as Morgan Freeman’s improbable housekeeper is very awkwardly chopping some vegetable — the awkwardness providing a rare plausible moment, as Rose seems an even less likely maker-of-dinner than she does slayer-of-many-criminal-goons. If she’d kept slicing that carrot or whatever for the remaining 90 minutes here, the results would have been approximately as exciting as the high-body-count action occupying most of veteran writer-director George Gallo’s feature.
“Vanquish” isn’t bad so much as inert — nothing here is convincing, tense, kinetic, outrageous, or silly enough to give the movie even fleeting life. The script is so by-the-numbers, the performers can hardly hide their disinterest, a feeling soon to be shared by viewers lured by the promise of these stars in a violent revenge tale. Lionsgate opens it in select theaters April 16, followed by on demand and digital release four days later.

Exclusive: Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman and The Meg and Batwoman star Ruby Rose are leading cast in George Gallo’s (The Comeback Trail) action-thriller Vanquish, which is currently filming on location in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In the movie, Freeman plays a retired police commissioner who blackmails his caretaker (Ruby Rose) by kidnapping her daughter, forcing her into helping him double cross his team of dirty detectives in an attempt to clean up the city.
Bad Boys and Midnight Run writer Gallo is directing from a screenplay he wrote alongside Samuel Bartlett from Bartlett’s original story. Capstone’s Blue Box International banner is launching world sales this week during the Toronto Film Festival.
The film, previously known as The Longest Night, is produced by March On Productions’ Richard Salvatore and David E Ornston, and Chassy Media’s Nate Adams. Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Group is co-financing alongside Gary Leff’s Southland Equity.
