While the X-Men prepare for their homecoming to the MCU with the film Deadpool and Wolverine, fans are excited for the return of the epic clash between the X-Men and Magneto. The character was one of the main antagonists of Fox Studio’s X-Men franchise and was played by Ian McKellan and Michael Fassbender in the films.
However, fans might have to wait longer as the popular antagonist may take a backseat to pave the way for another much-awaited villain. According to industry insiders, the character Mister Sinister is being eyed by Marvel to stand against the X-Men in their reboot. This would be the villain’s first live-action appearance, after being rumored to be included in Hugh Jackman’s Logan.

In March 2019, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool after Disney acquired Fox for $71.3 billion. These characters are set to join the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were renamed “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels.’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ a sequel to ‘Deadpool 2,’ will introduce Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity.
A new X-Men film, aiming to reboot the franchise within the MCU, began development in September 2023. Rumors of its development surfaced as early as 2021, with Kevin Feige involved. However, updates on the project have been scarce. According to Daniel Richtman, the MCU plans to incorporate Mister Sinister, one of the most popular X-Men villains, into the reboot.

This weekend, "Saturday Night Live" gave Emma Stone the honor of joining the Five Timers Club. With her fifth time hosting the late night sketch comedy show, at age 35 she also became the youngest member of the exclusive club. Stone certainly proved that she deserves to join the ranks of the most legendary hosts of "SNL," as she delivered the best episode of season 49 so far.
In her previous hosting stints, Emma Stone showed that if she wasn't already a big time movie star, she could easily be a cast member on "SNL." Never afraid to be goofy, easily able to inhabit a variety of characters, and endlessly talented, Stone is one of the best hosts that "SNL" has ever seen. When it comes to her latest effort, "SNL" brought back a couple of recurring bits, including a favorite from Stone's previous times hosting the show.

In the early days of the culture war, science stood on one side and religion on the other. In 1925, the so-called Scopes Monkey Trial hung on whether a Tennessee high-school instructor had violated state law by teaching human evolution. He was on trial, but it was really Charles Darwin who was on trial. Darwin won, and so, in a larger sense, did Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, and the whole tsunami of advanced science that was setting the stage for the 20th century. By the time physicists and astronomers were exploring the origins of the universe, the whole “God made the world in 7 days” idea, even if you fervently believed it, did not pretend to be “science.”
But with the rise of the American Evangelical movement and its worldly political engine, the Christian Right, what once looked like a science-vs.-faith dichotomy began to break down. You could see this in...

Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson is a hardcore Christian nationalist who has a history of spouting extreme right-wing views — including on mass shootings. The Louisiana Republican’s record on guns has come under scrutiny in the wake of a shooter killing at least 18 people in Maine on Wednesday, and in addition to opposing gun control legislation, the man who is now second in line for the presidency has blamed mass shootings on both teaching evolution and abortion.

Kaala Paani, the brand-new Netflix India Original, is a medical drama that speaks to the viewers about how human beings function in times of emergency. It is always a crisis that makes or breaks men. In an hour of distress, human beings end up making decisions that might not be beneficial in the long run. Such choices might be right for a few seconds of gratification, but there will be consequences to these actions in the future. Kaala Paani is all about people trying to contain a worsening epidemic situation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In that process they make many questionable decisions.
The survival of the fittest is the looming narrative in the show from the start until the end. Charles Darwin’s theory suggests that ‘any living organism best adapted to the environment is more likely to survive and reproduce.’ It implies that anyone who quickly adapts...

Producing and releasing a medical/survival drama a year after the global pandemic ceased is a good call. This pandemic brought the world to a standstill, but at the same time, people were also going through chaotic times. Human beings changed their perspective about how life functions, and survival became their only goal. The pandemic also tested Charles Darwin’s theory of the survival of the fittest, and this phenomenon is the essence of the new Netflix India original Kaala Paani.

Little good came out of "X-Men: Apocalypse." The preceding film "Days of Future Past" was meant to be a fresh start for the Merry Mutants. Instead, director Bryan Singer was exposed as creatively bankrupt; "Apocalypse" rehashes beats from Singer's previous movies like a "greatest hits" compilation. Singer always had little interest in the source material comics and "Apocalypse" showed he was out of his depth trying to make an "X-Men" movie that felt more like them.
This feeling of running on fumes, juxtaposed with a comical misuse of Oscar Isaac's talents, meant "Apocalypse" was the beginning of the end for 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies, not a new dawn. It's certainly when their spell over me ended.
The post-credits scene of "X-Men: Apocalypse" in particular is pointless. Its very inclusion was Fox taking a page from rival Marvel Studios, but the sequel set-up doesn't pay off.

Bhopal, Aug 4 (Ians) Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (Iiser) Bhopal have constructed a high-quality genome assembly to decipher the genetic secrets of peacock — India’s national bird.
The ornate features of the peacock’s tail have always fascinated scientists and nature enthusiasts. Even Charles Darwin, known as the father of evolution, had expressed bewilderment over the paradoxical grand display of the male peafowl, which made it more vulnerable to predators.
Darwin resolved this puzzle with the theory of sexual selection, suggesting that such ornamental traits play a crucial role in attracting mates and enhancing reproductive success.
Despite such understanding, the underlying genetic basis for these spectacular birds has always remained a mystery.
In the new study, published in the journal Heliyon, the team focused on the Blue Peafowl, also known as the Indian Peacock, native to the Indian subcontinent, and the Green Peafowl, found in Southeast Asia.

Penn Badgley is a well-known actor with an impressive resume. However, he is most known for his two biggest projects, Gossip Girl and Netflix’s You. His characters in both shows loved literature, but Badgley has only read two fiction books in the last decade.

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 3, "The Convert."
"Star Wars" can't help but serve as a mirror for the world. Sometimes it's deliberate, like when George Lucas wrote "A New Hope" as a response to Richard Nixon's presidency and the Vietnam War. Other times, a galaxy far, far away is ahead of the curve, like when Lucas was writing his prequel trilogy about the rise of the Galactic Empire, unaware that 9/11, the War on Terror, and the Patriot Act were all right around the corner.
More recently, the Disney+ TV shows "Andor" and "The Bad Batch" have picked up the baton, drawing clear parallels between life under the Empire and neofascism in the 21st century. By comparison, "The Mandalorian" takes place five years after the Empire's fall and examines how societies rebuild themselves in the aftermath of war. In the season 3 premiere, we saw that the...

On the journey of making my new documentary film “Quintessentially British,” I encountered some quirky lords, charming knights, irrepressible dames and Shakespeare-quoting taxi drivers. I grew up in Ireland, but London has been my home since leaving university. Being an Irish filmmaker allowed me an outsider’s perspective to explore Britishness in the year of the late Queen’s platinum jubilee.
The first day of filming was in the House of Lords with the eccentric pro-smoking hereditary peer, Lord Palmer, or to give him his full title, Adrian Bailie Nottage Palmer the 4th Baron of Reading. He lives in the beautiful 109-room Edwardian mansion Manderston in the Scottish borders. But don’t be jealous, as Lord Palmer freely admits that it has 100 rooms too many.

There is barely anyone who isn’t rich or in position of power who doesn’t often exclaim “I would never do that if I were in their shoes”, truly convinced to hold a higher moral ground than “them folks”. You can thank this self-foolery for all the irritating quotes and misquotes by big thinkers, shanti-shanti spiritual leaders, and celebrities on social media, the same you can also find on the wall calendars and help-yourself books. Hell is other people, right?
Make no mistake, Houman Seyedi’s 6th feature “World War III” also leans on a quote attributed to Mark Twain which kicks it off, but this one sits hand in hand with the script which fabulously rhymes the events. “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes”, goes the sad quote, gaining more on its meaning with every passing minute of the film. When "England 1890" flashes crosses the thunderstorm in season 2, episode five of Genndy Tartakovsky's "Primal," any devoted viewer will find themselves scratching their heads before re-orientating themselves. Numerous speaking roles in English? Brandy-drinking Englishmen in tailored suits? How did we land in a world of dialogue? Or rather, why the time skip from the prehistoric age to the English Victorian age? The episode, titled "Primal Theory," throws the audience for a loop.
The previous episode ended in a jaw-dropping bloodbath, with the vengeful scorpion-marked Vikings on the trail of our main cast: the caveman Spear (Aaron Laplante), T-rex Fang, and escaped slave Mira (Laëtitia Eïdo). The cliffhanger leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering how they will survive the next threat. So why pivot to a time period where Spear, Fang, and Mira have receded into fossils, their final fates unknown?

Charles Darwin famously theorized that evolution was the result of "survival of the fittest." When it comes to surviving science-fiction horror movies, brains almost exclusively rule over brawn. Science-fiction horror deals with stories that feel beyond the capabilities of our wildest imaginations, but the horrors are often defeated by using the ol' noggin and executing critical thinking skills learned in even the most rudimentary science classes. Sure, there are movies like "Alien" that could be survived by simply "not being an astronaut and staying at home with Jones the cat," or refusing to get the brain operation in "Possessor," but what about the films that throw humanity into the thick...

Another episode of Jeopardy! and another gaffe that is going to live long in the memory of one embarrassed contestant who confused a hip hop legend with an Academy Award-winning actor. The moment came during the Wednesday, June 29 episode when the contestants were faced with the category “Chuck D, Times 3,” which included clues featuring author Charles Dickens and biologist Charles Darwin. Things were going well until a clue came up about Chuck D, the founder, leader, and frontman of the hip hop group Public Enemy. “In the 1990s, Chuck D began fighting the power in this hip hop group with Flavor Flav, a man who always knew what time it was,” host Mayim Bialik read. Contestant Halley Ryherd buzzed in with the answer, “What is the Funky Bunch?” This was obviously incorrect, given that The Funky Bunch was a 90s group headlined by Transformers actor Mark Wahlberg, then known as Marky Mark.
