If ever there was a book I was guaranteed to review, it was this one. I cannot put into words how much I love the original Superman film, and the Christopher Reeve version of both Kal-El and Clark Kent. I first saw it as a young kid and was absolutely mesmerised by it. I have watched it literally hundreds of times down the years. Reviewing this book was an obvious slam dunk. Why Superman ’78 though? Those nostalgia dollars. DC have put out a few of these nostalgia fest books, Adam West’s Batman and Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman notably, and all have been hugely entertaining. There’s clearly a huge audience for these books, one of which is typing this. Superman ’78 though is the big one. The film literally changed superhero movies and DC Comics with its release,...

Turn of the century detectives typically dispatched the bad guys with handcuffs or handguns – commonplace but effective best practices. In 1938 the aptly named Action Comics flipped that script with a new kind of crime fighter.
This depression era RoboCop didn’t just brush off bullets – he snatched up getaway cars with one arm while corralling bank robbers in the other. And he flew. Written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster, the mysterious crusader was a high profile hero with a low brow reputation – in spite of his Olympian physique and matinee idol looks Hollywood remained dubious until 1941 when Paramount rolled the dice with a series of animated shorts.
Produced by Max Fleischer’s studio and directed by his brother Dave, the cartoons were expressionist showcases featuring geometrically precise action sequences that felt retrograde and futuristic at the same time – wisely evoking Fritz Lang’s Metropolis rather than Shuster’s blandly conceived cityscapes.

Fans can catch an early glimpse of DC’s animated Reign of the Superman feature at premiere events in NYC and La.
Reign of the Supermen will please an enthusiastic fandom with whom this past summer’s DC animated epic, The Death of Superman, resonated, having captured the original pop-culture-proliferating 1992 comic book storyline to a poignant tee. Indeed, Reign, adapting DC’s follow-up storyline that – after less than a year – built up to the resurrection of the martyred Man of Steel, will similarly put a classic comic through a modernized lens; one that certain proactive fans will be able to watch early at a bicoastal premiere screening event!

As Morpheus in The Matrix movies, Laurence Fishburne crossed the divide between the real world and virtual reality. Nowadays, he’s doing something similar once again – by having a foot in both the Marvel and DC superhero universes. From 2013’s Man of Steel onward, Fishburne plays Perry White, the chief of the Daily Planet, in the Dceu. Beginning with 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp though, the actor will appear in the McU, too, as the giant-sized superhero Bill Foster/Goliath.
Just because he’s not enough of a sci-fi/geek icon already though, Fishburne recently revealed that he has another project with Marvel in the bag. According to him, it’s something he pitched to the studio himself which he hopes will “change the world.” However, it has encountered some problems, with “a lot of legal red tape” preventing it from moving ahead right away.

Marvel Studios is being very hush hush about any projects outside of the films that will take us through Avengers 4. These films are going to bring an end to the epic journey they started with Iron Man.
Laurence Fishburn is jumping into this universe as he is set to play Dr. Bill Foster in Ant-Man and The Wasp. But, apparently, there's another Marvel project that he's involved with and it's super secret. During an interview with Collider, he revealed that even though he was in Man of Steel, he's always been more partial to Marvel:
“I have figured out how to get myself into the Marvel Universe… I can only tell you that I, as a comic reader from childhood, I was a Marvel guy primarily because I grew up in New York City in the 60s and 70s when Marvel was really touching on everything that was happening in my world.

While on the sofa of The Jimmy Kimmel Show earlier this week, Thor: Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth made a joke that’s sure to get comic book movie fans everywhere salivating: he quipped that he was interested in joining the DC Extended Universe. Specifically, to play Batman’s enemy, Edward Nygma/The Riddler.
When the talk show host complimented him on his green velvet jacket, Hemsworth said it was a homage to his Ragnarok teammates Loki and Hulk, before switching to a reference to the famed DC villain. “I have a Riddler audition after this, so…” he quipped.
Kimmel then inquired more seriously about whether it was even possible for a Marvel actor such as Hemsworth to consider also working in the Dceu. The Australian star remained non-committal on the subject, joking that it depended on how much he got paid.

Just a few answers to the questions that Wonder Woman leaves behind...
With strong critical and box office reception, it’s clear now that Wonder Woman is the movie the character deserves. Patty Jenkins may have managed to keep things a lot tighter than the last few Dceu films, but that doesn’t mean you might not have come out of the film with some questions.
Scroll past the spoiler squirrel to see them…
1. Who was Doctor Poison?
In the comics, Dr. Isabel Maru is one of the first ever Wonder Woman villains, introduced in Sensation Comics #2, where she works for the Nazis and creates a gas that can cause people to do the opposite of what they intend called 'Reverso' (it was, after all, a comic with all the narrative complexity 1942 can offer.)
That said, she was initially portrayed as (apparently) male before a last-minute reveal...

Over the millennia, I’ve written enough reviews to denude the Shoshone National Forest. My fellow commentators here at ComicMix have as well, and some of my best friends have been critics. So, as you read the following rant, please keep in mind I am not referring to those people… but I am referring to damn near every other critic practicing their arcane craft these days. From reading their recent criticism, I have come to the following conclusion.
Most critics seem to be sick to death of superhero movies and teevee shows. Even many of those who are enthusiasts of the superhero genre.
It’s not hard to understand this. Even if you have seen 90% of all the superhero movies and teevee shows released in the past decade and enjoyed most of them, there’s an important difference: you made the choice to see them. For critics, it’s their job.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman was silly, joyful fun. We take a fond look back at the 1990s series...
A flash of red cape, the S sitting proudly on the chest, the warrior of Truth, Justice and the American Way, Superman has always been the most recognisable and iconic of all the superheroes. After many changes on-screen over the years from the All-American hero in the 1978 movie to the recent darker and moodier version, you'd be hard pressed to go anywhere on the planet and find somebody who had never heard of the Man of Steel.

Jobs were in turmoil on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 15 when Kara was fired and Alex was suspended.

React to Kara being fired. Did she deserve it? Is the show moving away from CatCo?
Steve: I can understand Kara wanting to inform National City of Cadmus' plans, but rules are rules and as Snapper said, they are there for a reason. Kara running with info like that without Snapper knowing the sources, let alone them being credible or not, was a risky move.
It's unfortunate because Snapper probably really was pulling for Kara, as he saw so much potential in her as a reporter.

Laurence Fishburne has a valid explanation why Perry White won't be in Justice League, and it looks like he's aiming for us never seeing him again! The actor gave an interview to the La Times (via Cbm) and said his not being in the film simply came down to conflicting schedules:
"They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise...And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."
He makes a fair case, then drops a statement that is sure to reignite the rivalry between Marvel and DC fans for a couple days. The actor then took the time to address Batman v Superman in a fairly critical way:

When it comes to Justice League, which will be the largest entry in the DC Extended Universe yet (and that's saying a lot, when you think of how huge the scope of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was), you'd be fine assuming that every major character we've met so far is going to appear in the big event.
Apparently, that's not such a safe bet to make after all.
Laurence Fishburne, out making the rounds to promote John Wick: Chapter 2, answered frankly about whether or not the Daily Planet's iconic editor-in-chief, Perry White, was going to show up in Justice League. Fishburne has played the character in two Dceu films so far, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but he confirms that he will not be seen in DC's big team-up. Though, that's not for a lack of trying:

While Warner Bros. spent the past year dealing with the critical blowback from “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” the talent involved has generally been supportive and positive about their working experience on the blockbusters (except for maybe Jared Leto who pouted about his scenes in the latter being cut). Most of the main players have been upbeat about the world-building franchise, but Laurence Fishburne — perhaps inspired by his role in ‘Dawn Of Justice’ as newspaper editor Perry White — gave the straight goods about DC Films in a recent interview with the L.A.

Whenever you have a “superheroes fighting other superheroes” storyline, the whole thing pretty much rests on why the heroes are fighting and what will make them stop fighting. In Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman, the impetus for the fighting is that Lex Luthor manipulated Bruce Wayne to convince him that Superman was a terrible, destructive force, and the reason that they ultimately stopped fighting is that Batman discovered that his mom had the same name as Superman’s mom. It’s a pretty flimsy reason, and the speed at which it convinces Batman to stop trying to kill the guy he’s spent the whole movie trying to kill could put the Flash to shame, but it turns out that it’s not as universally derided as some corners of the internet may have led you to believe.

During a recent interview with the La Times to promote the release of John Wick: Chapter 2, Laurence Fishburne was asked if he'll be making a return as Daily Planet editor Perry White in Justice League. Unfortunately, that won't be happening due to some scheduling issues, but as Zack Snyder only wanted him for a day, it sounds like it was probably only going to be a brief cameo appearance anyway! With larger than life heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and more, Justice League is already going to be pretty busy as it is. Throw in numerous supporting characters as well, and you’ve got to wonder if Zack Snyder is going to be able to juggle everything in a satisfying manner. That remains to be seen, but one person he won’t have to worry about is Daily Planet Editor-in-chief Perry White, as it’s now been confirmed that Laurence Fishburne will not be in the film.
Speaking with the La Times to promote his new effort John Wick: Chapter 2 – which is really quite good, in case you’re wondering – the actor revealed that while Snyder originally had a role for him, scheduling conflicts ultimately got in the way.
“They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise,” Fishburne said.

I remain astonished that the executives at DC Entertainment and parent company Warner Bros were surprised by the nearly uniform negative reaction to March’s Batman v Superman film. The film violated many of the key elements of good storytelling and showed a distinct dislike for the Man of Steel so the resulting experience felt oppressive, dark, and dislikable. Much of the blame is laid at director Zack Snyder’s feet since he edited the film in such a way as to emphasize the Dark Knight over Superman and never really addressed the questions he wisely raises in this sequel to his Man of Steel.

I’ve beaten back the technological revolt happening in my apartment! It’s a time for celebration and joy. So two days ago, I saw the Batman Vs. Superman Ultimate Edition at a special event in theaters. On purpose. Seriously.
I purposefully dragged my fellow ComicMix columnist Joe Corallo because I couldn’t suffer through it a second time alone. For the record, he agreed to go and then was confused as to why he agreed. Also, I purposefully did not tell Mike, our fearless editor, that we were doing this since he tried to talk us out of seeing it the first go-around. (I only wish I could see his face when he reads this.)
A little backstory, I hated it the first time. I remember stumbling out of the theater wondering how the studio executives could have let that happen. How? Why?! Still, for reasons unbeknownst to me,...

Since it’s Memorial Day, this seems like a good time to dissect the remake of the film about a (super) man who represents “truth, justice and the American way.” This week, Cinelinx looks at Man of Steel.
He may not be quite as popular as Batman anymore, but there is no comic book superhero is who is more iconic and influential than Superman. He is one of the most well-known fictional characters world-wide (along with Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Dracula). Just as the introduction of the man of steel in 1938 began the super hero genre in comics, the debut of Superman: The Movie (1978) in theaters initiated the cinematic super hero genre. It spawned 4 sequels (counting Superman Returns) and a spin-off (Supergirl). Years later, after numerous Marvel films had pulled in big wads of box office cash, Warner Brothers joined forced with Legendary Pictures to re-film the story of the last son of Krypton.

With Justice League now in production over in London, we’re starting to hear more about what Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder have in store for us, including who exactly will be appearing in the film. We already know that we’ll be seeing Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa and Henry Cavill (in at least some capacity), and now we have confirmation that Jeremy Irons will be back as well, reprising his role of Alfred Pennyworth.
Speaking to Showbiz 411, the actor confirmed his return but wouldn’t say how big of a role he’ll play in the film. He factored into Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice quite heavily, but given that there are so many more characters fighting for the spotlight this time around, who knows how much room the story will have for him.

Editor David Brenner reveals that an initial cut of Batman V Superman weighed in at a startling four hours long...
Nb: The following contains very minor spoilers for Batman V Superman
Whether you agreed with the icy critical reception given to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice or not, one thing was for sure: you got an awful lot of superhero film for your money. The theatrical cut weighed in at a hefty 2 hours 33 minutes, while this summer's Ultimate Edition home release will break the three hour mark.
In a new interview with Pro Video Coalition, however, editor David Brenner reveals that an early cut of Batman V Superman came to almost four hours in length. Part of the reason, Benner explains, is down to the sheer number of intersecting storylines the movie switches between.

We've reported, for some time, that Jena Malone was cast as Barbara Gordon in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. We've also discussed the fact that her work was cut from the theatrical version of the film. Since Barbara, daughter of Commissioner Gordon, is known for becoming both Batgirl and eventually Oracle in the books, there's been some question as to how she was actually going to be used in the film.
A film blogger by the name of Al Gorosito is now reporting that it's very impossible that not only was she slated to appear in her Batgirl form in the film, but that she actually was in the movie- hidden in plain sight, right under our noses. One of his readers sent in the following photo, which purports to show Batgirl fighting alongside Ben Affleck's Dark Knight in the Batman V Superman's "Knightmare" sequence:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is supposed to give us the gladiator fight of the century. But the real competition we have our eye on here is Marvel vs. DC, Disney vs. Warner Bros. With these business rivals clawing for the hearts and pocketbooks of comic book fans and mainstream audiences alike, it’s easy to see Marvel and DC as opposing camps with loyal, flagship characters and stars. But plenty of actors have been friendly with both Marvel and DC. With the release of Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck joins the ranks of actors who have been in movies/TV based on characters from the pages of both comic book giants. Affleck’s Batman comes after the actor brought Daredevil to the big screen in 2003. Affleck’s BvS co-star Laurence Fishburne also had Marvel on his resume before taking on the role of Daily Planet editor Perry White in Man of Steel,...

**Major spoilers ahead** "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" is not wanting for characters from the DC Comics universe. Of course, Batman and Superman throw down, plus there's Lex Luthor, Alfred, Martha and Thomas Wayne, and Perry White. Beyond that, Wonder Woman has a supporting role, while Justice League team members Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash get brief glimpses, and there's a pretty major of tease of Darkseid too. But it seems Zack Snyder found room to cram in one more character... only to get rid of him for little reason other than he could. Since I was unable to attend the press screening, I will not be submitting a review of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Instead, I think we should have a nice civil discussion. I know, I know that’s nearly impossible on the internet, but let’s give it the old college try. Shall we?
First off, let me tell you how I received this film and I'd love to compare with what you guys thought. There will be spoilers, please do not read unless you have already seen the film. It's just better that way.
For starters, Batman v Superman exceeded many personal expectations. Totally going away from the established methods of Marvel. Instead, taking three hours to jump ahead three or four films of material. Was it accomplished very well? Yes. Put down those torches! Let's me ask/answer a few questions.

2016 is the year when superheroes stop being nice and start using each other as punching bags.
Before Marvel's "Civil War," Warner Bros. kicks things off with the long-awaited "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." This film introduces Ben Affleck's Batman and marks the first time the two heroes have appeared together in a live-action movie. But Batman and Superman are just the tip of the iceberg, as this movie will pave the way for a much more ambitious DC Universe on the big screen.
Not sure why Batman and Superman are fighting? Having trouble keeping track of all of these characters? Not to worry. We're here to break down six important things you should know before watching "Batman v Superman."

In advance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hitting theaters, we sent our intrepid Superman fan Jeffrey Taylor to chat with some of the ensemble cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Holly Hunter and Diane Lane. As Perry White, Clark Kent and Lois Lane's boss at The Daily Planet, Laurence Fishburne is strong, fairly level-headed and a bit of a pushover when it comes to his favorite journalists not completing the assignments he gave them. He's an old-schooler, and in Batman v Superman you can tell the disintegrating market for physical newspapers is beginning to take a toll on him (and his budget). Fishburne was a big comics fan growing up -- revealing to us that he would steal comics from the local candy store when he was six years old because he...

Given both its exhaustive, exhausting pre-release coverage and the painfully on-the-nose nature of its title, it seemed somewhat strange that Warner Bros. cracked down on critics as completely as they did for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, brandishing NDAs prior to the embargo date and all but begging them to refrain from revealing plot points after it broke.
As it turns out, there’s only one big spoiler that the studio’s measures were trying, desperately, to keep under wraps: namely, that the film, while an undeniably monumental risk in the arena of superhero filmmaking, is also a catastrophically failed gamble, a mess of devastating proportions.
Taken as a purely cinematic work (without giving consideration to its linchpin role in launching the DC Movieverse), Batman V Superman is shockingly shoddy. A leaden and lethargic movie that somehow features a sickening excess of plot points without any narrative drive or through-line,...
