is full of moments that stay with you. Think of Joe Exotic parading self-branded condoms to promote his presidential campaign or Tim Stark dressing his golf balls in a bandana and hat to resemble Jeff Lowe. But one particular sequence lingers in the mind — and it’s no laughing matter.
In one scene, the Gw Zoo team attempts to prise a newborn tiger cub away from its mother mere seconds after it has entered the world. A long metal claw enters the enclosure to grab and drag the baby away across the dusty floor and through a tiny gap in the cage. They hold it aloft like a gold trophy. The screams of the cub, meanwhile, are heartbreaking as it cries for its absent mother. Our feelings of unease are compounded by Joe Exotic complaining about the noise.

Filmmakers are warning that a recent ruling in a copyright suit against Netflix over its “Tiger King” docuseries could restrict the use of video clips in documentaries, and upset a long-held understanding of what constitutes “fair use.”
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Denver, ruled in March that the use of a 66-second excerpt from a funeral video was not “transformative” under the Copyright Act. The three-judge panel remanded the case to a lower court to determine if Netflix violated the copyright of Tim Sepi, the videographer who shot the scene.
Netflix has petitioned the court to reconsider its decision, and has been joined by the Motion Picture Association, the International Documentary Association, Film Independent, and a host of media law professors in raising alarms about the potential chilling effect on non-fiction storytelling.

Ryan Anderson and Gypsy Rose Blanchard separated three months after she left prison and now, Tiger King‘s Joe Exotic reached out from behind bars to give him some advice. Of course, it’s not the first time that Netflix fans heard from him. He is still in prison where he’s serving his sentence for animal offenses and a murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin.
Ryan Anderson & Gypsy Rose Blanchard Are On Lifetime
True crime stories get a lot of attention, and Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story played out in a three-part special, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Another series from Lifetime, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup premieres in June this year. Gypsy, a victim of Munchausen by proxy at the hands of her mom, Dee Dee Blanchard, is getting a lot of attention from the press right now. Is that why Joe Exotic from Tiger King said something to Gypsy’s husband?...

Some say our last president wanted to be king. Now an infamous king wants to be president.
Joseph Maldonado-Passage, star of the Netflix series “Tiger King,” has announced his candidacy for president from his campaign headquarters — a medical ward for federal prisoners in Fort Worth, Texas.
Using a familiar “drain the swamp” theme on his new campaign website, Maldonado-Passage promised to go after corruption in the FBI and the U.S. Dept. of Justice, blaming that corruption for his multiple convictions and 21-year prison sentence. (He’s currently being treated for prostate cancer.)
The Netflix series, first released in March 2020, focused on Maldonado-Passage and his exotic big cat park in Oklahoma and his rivalry with big cat activist Carole Baskin. He was convicted of paying a hit man to murder Baskin.

Chet Hanks has hit back at Eric André, who recently accused him of “breaking” the crew during a guest appearance on his show.
The 39-year-old comic hosts The Eric André Show, an absurdist unscripted sketch programme that parodies late-night talk shows. It features interviews with celebrities and celebrity impersonators, interspersed with chaotic man-on-the-street-type segments.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, André recalled Hanks, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, allegedly engaging in “dangerous” behaviour while on set of the Adult Swim series.
Shortly after the interview was published (on 14 March), Hanks responded to André, labelling him “emotionally disturbed”.
“Had no idea you were such a p***y,” Hanks wrote, tagging him in an Instagram Story.
Hanks then followed up with a subsequent video, sharing his side of the story.
“So Eric André invites me onto his show. I had never seen it before, so I started watching episodes.

MSNBC host Ari Melber was celebrated by fans on social media Monday for an exchange he had with Congressman Matt Gaetz on his show. Melber pressed Gaetz hard about the accusations that he had sought a blanket pardon from Donald Trump before Trump left office.
Gaetz was first accused of doing so in April, 2021, but the accusations came back into the spotlight in 2022, when they were mentioned by three different former Trump employees who testified during the Jan. 6 committee hearings.
But Gaetz remained absolutely unfazed by the encounter, sticking to the denials he’s given for nearly 2 years, and responding to Melber’s questioning with terse answers delivered through a toothy, smug grin. You can watch that encounter above right now.

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed a bill that prevents the exploitation of big cats. The law bans unlicensed people from owning, transporting or breeding the animals as well as zoos from allowing the public to touch them.

Over two years after Netflix’s “Tiger King” took streaming by storm — and just a few months after Peacock’s own fictional series about Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic premiered — Peacock is bringing a new story of cats and crime to the docuseries space. The first trailer for “Dangerous Breed: Crime. Cons. Cats,” a new true docuseries about wrestler Teddy Hart, was released by the streamer on Wednesday.
Canadian nonfiction filmmaker Frederick Kroetsch, whose previous works include series like “Queen of the Oil Patch” and films like “Last of the Fur Traders,” directs the series, which focuses on the 10 years he spent filming Edward Ellsworth Annis, a wrestler on the independent circuit known by the ring name Teddy Hart.
A controversial figure known for his legal problems and his side gig as a Persian cat breeder, Hart was seen by Kroetsch as the perfect subject for a new reality show.

The US House of Representatives has passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act, a first step in establishing a national policy to stop the trade and breeding of endangered lions and tigers as pets in homes and props at roadside zoos.
The bill overwhelmingly passed Friday by a vote of 278 to 134. The measure was introduced by Reps. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and actively supported on the floor by Reps. Ed Case, D-Hawaii, and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz.
But one of its most prominent supporters was Carole Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida, and a prominent part of the television series TIger King, which put the issue of private ownership of tigers and lions on the American radar screen. NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock TV, also featured the bill in its series Joe vs. Carole, released in March.

If you’ve listened to a good podcast in the past year, chances are high that a studio is already in talks to adapt it for the screen.
The podcast-to-tv trend kicked into high gear earlier this year with the release of shows like Hulu’s The Dropout, Apple TV+’s WeCrashed, Peacock’s Joe vs. Carole and NBC’s The Thing About Pam — all of which were prestige, limited series based on podcasts of the same name. At the end of 2021, audiences saw Peacock’s Dr. Death and Apple TV+’s The Shrink Next Door.
In some instances, such as with WeCrashed and Dr. Death, the showrunners were given early access to the podcast to see if — and how — they would be interested in adapting the story for TV.

Two years after Netflix’s “Tiger King” swept the nation just as Covid struck, confining viewers to their homes and televisions, comes Peacock’s fictionalized take on the events that took place between Big Cat wrangler Joe Exotic and arch-nemisis Carole Baskin.
Peacock’s series — which is based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor — focuses more on Baskin’s point of view in the story, while “Tiger King” centered Joe Exotic. But to bring the story to life, a cadre of familiar faces fill the roles of the personalities “Tiger King” fans came to love (or love to hate).
Below we’ve rounded up a complete “Joe vs. Carole” cast and character guide for the show, all episodes of which are now streaming on Peacock.

Joe vs. Carole debuts on Peacock on Thursday, March 3, and while its titular characters are impossible not to know at this point, the actor playing Joe Exotic, series star John Cameron Mitchell, may be an unfamiliar face to some. But Mitchell is an icon of stage and screen in his own right. Ahead of his performance as the Tiger King star opposite Kate McKinnon‘s Carole Baskin, here’s everything you need to know about Mitchell. Before Mitchell was a TV star, he rocked Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Mitchell created and starred in the Off-Broadway rock musical, which he developed with creative partner Stephen Trask. Like Little Shop of Horrors, the original 1998 production had a solely Off-Broadway run. It shot up in popularity, leading to the 2001 film adaptation directed by and starring Mitchell. It was Mitchell’s feature film directorial debut, as well as his first major screen acting credit,...

Remember that time, almost exactly two years ago, when pandemic lockdowns had just begun, and the scents of bleach spray and sourdough filled the air as we all united in our obsession with a mulleted, eyelinered man who bred tigers and his nemesis, an animal activist who wore animal prints and flower crowns? Well, it has been a long two years, so maybe it’s as good a time as any for a little early pandemic nostalgia, courtesy of Peacock’s eight-episode miniseries “Joe vs. Carole,” which revisits the story of the 2020 Netflix documentary “Tiger King,” this time in scripted form.
The question, of course, is whether this story warrants multiple retellings, especially in such a short period. Is the feud between animal-collecting showman Joe Exotic and big-cat rescue activist Carole Baskin really the “Macbeth” of our time? Or even the O.J. Simpson murder trial of our time?

Two long years after Netflix first dropped its “Tiger King” docuseries, the first scripted stab at retelling the wild story of warring big cat enthusiasts Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin has landed, as was inevitable. “Joe vs. Carole,” premiering March 3 on Peacock, stars John Cameron Mitchell and Kate McKinnon as Joe and Carole as they vow to take the other down. At this point — months after a Netflix follow-up to “Tiger King,” podcasts such as the one this series is based on (Wondery’s “Over My Dead Body”), and countless memes and late-night jokes later — anything purporting to shed more light on this particular saga has a high bar to clear in order to be anything less than repetitive. In this respect, “Joe vs. Carole,” despite some decent performances and effective directing from Justin Tipping, rarely justifies its existence.

The names Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin have begun to feel like relics of a bygone era. The debut of Netflix’s documentary series “Tiger King” debuted nearly the same day the world shut down in the wake of the global pandemic in March 2020, leaving us questing for something, anything, to distract us from what lurked outside our door.
We found (what passes for) comfort in the outrageous story of a “gay, gun-carrying, redneck with a mullet” named Joe Exotic, an Oklahoma zoo owner, and his feud that devolved into a murder-for-hire plot against fellow (and equally kooky) big-cat enthusiast Carole Baskin. “Tiger King” felt like a global watch event with how much everyone discussed it on social media. Almost as quickly, two dueling projects focusing on Exotic and Baskin were announced: one set to star Nicolas Cage in the title role for CBS and the other, for NBC’s streaming service Peacock,...

Peacock’s new series “Joe vs Carole” may be looking to capitalize off the popularity of last year’s Netflix hit “Tiger King,” but John Cameron Mitchell, who plays Joe Exotic, said the docuseries was a hard watch for him.
“There’s something about (Joe) that I actually couldn’t really bear to watch the whole thing at first, because it was like, everyone’s behaving so badly,” Mitchell said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “The docuseries I found a bit sensational. It was certainly riveting, but it was docking. It wasn’t trying to go deep.”
“Joe vs Carole” is not directly adapting “Tiger King,” but rather the Wondery true-crime podcast series “Over My Dead Body,” which profiled Joe Exotic a year before “Tiger King” was released. To back up slightly, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know the story of the Netflix phenomenon, “Tiger King,” a docu-series that took pop culture by storm during the pandemic, centering on the story of exotic animal lover Joe Exotic and the animal rights activist Carole Baskin that he butts heads with.

Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage) was originally sentenced in January 2020 to 22 years in federal prison after his conviction in a murder for hire plot involving animal rights activist Carole Baskin. Both were featured prominently in Netflix’s hit true-crime series that explored the strange world of big-cat breeding.
The former zookeeper asked for a reduced sentence as he began treatment for prostate cancer. He wound up with just a year off his original sentence.
“Please don’t make me die in prison waiting for a chance to be free,” Exotic tearfully told the federal judge. He still had his trademark mullet hairstyle, but the bleach-blonde has now faded to brown and gray.
Baskin and husband Howard Baskin attended the proceedings. She said she was fearful that Maldonado-Passage could threaten her.
