“Marinette,” a biopic film about the first French female professional soccer player, has been boarded by Pulsar Content and Have a Good One. Garance Marillier, the breakout star of Julia Ducournau’s “Raw” and Palme d’Or winning “Titane,” stars in the lead role, as Marinette Pichon.
Based on Pichon’s bestselling autobiographical book, “Marinette” is directed by Virginie Verrier and showcases a raft of prominent and up-and-comers, including Marillier, Emilie Dequenne (“Close”), Alban Lenoir (“Lost Bullet”), Fred Testot (“Houba! On the trail of the Marsupilami”) and Sylvie Testud.
A pioneer of French women’s soccer, Pichon held for almost two decades the record for the number of goals and caps for the French team (men/women combined). She eventually became the first French player to have a career in the U.S..
Now in post, “Marinette” follows Pichon’s fight to spread awareness on women’s rights in sport.

If you recall this past Summer I met this absolutely charming filmmaker from Japan, Pablo Absento, at a local horror convention. We shared her previous short Shi with you not long after, a short film that the great Guillermo Del Toro reportedly lauded upon its release. Absento has kept herself busy since Shi and began developing a new series called Japanese Legends. Everybody loves a good scary story, but the Japanese have made it an art form. Everyone is familiar with J-horror entries "The Ring" and "The Grudge", yet Japanese culture is thick with some of the most terrifying supernatural tales ever told, and we're going to tell them as never before. The first short in the series Slit had its world...

When I was at Rue Morgue's Dark Carnival the other week I met this lovely filmmaker from Japan, Pablo Absento. Absento came to Dark Carnival armed with a batch of new posters for her short film Shi. This variant has never been seen outside of the expo circuit until now. The artwork was done by Carlos Salgado who did conceptual art for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. An ordinary day starts horribly for the character when he receives some bad news. It changes his life right away. Everything would go wrong from that moment on. Can things get worse than the worst? Orginally from England and now residing in Tokyo Absento created her short film Shi as a proof of concept for a feature...
