Following the announcement of a new planet found in the “Goldilocks Zone” around another star and Stephen Hawking’s endorsement for a new search for extraterrestrial life, bookies across the globe have slashed their odds on aliens being found before the end of 2015 from 250/1 to 100/1.
“After Stephen Hawking endorsed a new search for extra-terrestrial life, we have been inundated with punters placing wagers on the existence of aliens,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “This is the shortest price we have offered since man walked on the moon.”
The bookmakers state that the existence of extraterrestrials needs to be confirmed by the current President of the United States before the end of 2015 in order for them to pay out. The odds of alien contact was initially considered it as a bit of a joke but, much to the delight of scientists and the discomfort of bookmakers,...

So, how can Spurs beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday?
“With great difficulty” would be the answer, based on recent performances, but Spurs certainly have it in them to give their bitter North London rivals their first league defeat of the new season.
After a very solid start under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs’ results haven’t been great in recent games. A first defeat of the season – a 3-0 thrashing at home to Liverpool – was followed by a 2-2 draw at Sunderland in a match Spurs should have won easily, which was subsequently followed by a 0-0 draw in Serbia against Partizan Belgrade and a very poor 1-0 home loss to West Bromwich Albion last Sunday, which rightfully resulted in a rollicking for the players.
Spurs have dominated possession in almost every game this season and they simply haven’t done enough with it.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s first season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino has started as well as can be expected. An opening day away victory at West Ham United was followed by success in Cyprus against Ael Limassol in the UEFA Europa League and a dominant home win against Queens Park Rangers to give the club a 100% win record to date.
But, in order to maintain that kind of form and achieve the goals that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy demands – which is Champions League football – the club will need to do a number of things to improve on last season’s trophyless campaign and sixth place Premier League finish.
When it comes to tactics, utilising existing players, buying and selling players, and getting the balance right in other areas, something hasn’t been quite right at Spurs for a few years and, as a result,...

Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of his first European game since taking over at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club tonight, as the Lilywhites take on Ael Limassol in Cyprus in the first leg of the Europa League qualifying round.
Having previously been critical of the competition whilst in charge of Southampton, citing it as being “not attractive”, the Argentinian head coach has performed an opinion U-turn – largely because of the fact that winning the competition comes with the new incentive of qualifying for the next season’s Champions League.
Pochettino will name a much-changed team from the side that defeated West Ham United last Saturday, with Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Nacer Chadli and Paulinho expected to make their first appearances of the season after their respective World Cup exploits over the summer, while Emmanuel Adebayor, Christian Eriksen, Younes Kaboul, Aaron Lennon and Etienne Capoue haven...

After having previously dismissed the competition while he was in charge of previous club Southampton, new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Sky Sport News that he’ll be taking the competition very seriously this campaign – largely thanks to the new rule that states the winner will take part in the following season’s Champions League.
Spurs travel to Cyprus to face Ael Limassol in the first leg of their qualifying round tie on Thursday night and, in spite of the fact that a number of players will be rested with Sunday’s match against Queens Park Rangers at White Hart Lane in mind, Pochettino intends to win the game to aid his new club’s progression in the competition.
He had previously said the competition was “not attractive”, but now insists the situation is different due to the Champions League stipulation and subsequent incentive.

Aaron Lennon moved to Tottenham Hotspur in June of 2005 when he was just eighteen years old from his hometown club Leeds United. He had broken in to the Leeds first team two years prior and was viewed as one of the most promising talents in English football.
Costing just £1 million, Lennon quickly became a first team regular at White Hart Lane following his debut in the August of that year and he was nominated by his fellow Premiership players for the Pfa Young Player of the Year for both the 2005-06 season and the 2006-07 season (though he was ultimately beaten to the award on each occasion, by Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo – both of Manchester United respectively).
Lennon also soon made his mark on the England squad, with his debut coming as a substitute in a 6-0 home victory over Jamaica in 2006. However,...

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs career officially got off to a flying start on Saturday, as an injury time goal from his own signing – and a man he surprisingly trusted with a Premier League debut – Eric Dier, gave the Lilywhites a 1-0 victory against West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground.
The Argentine coach’s delight and relief was clear for all to see, as he openly celebrated both the scoring of the goal itself and the blowing of the final whistle.
Pochettino will be all too aware of the demands Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has of his teams and their managers – anything less than Champions League qualification will likely result in his dismissal, such is the nature of the job these days – as Spurs went through two managers last season alone, with both Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood departing with the space of a few months.
