Seeing strong and impactful female characters on TV inspires us, rallying us to do better like these females have done whenever the chips were down.
Some of these characters have inspired us for years, like Svu’s Olivia Benson or Btvs’s Buffy Summers, while other females have only recently hit our TV screens, like The Way Home’s Del Landry. However, these female characters have resonated with us over the years.
Some of the stories may have hit too close to home, like Netflix’s Georgia Miller running from an abusive past, and we cheered her on every step of the way.
We want to honor and recognize these women during National Women’s Month. They’ve taught us that we can achieve our dreams and not let anyone mess with us.
Check out the list below:

Updated: Netflix has renewed Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, for a third and fourth season. Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been named showrunner for the upcoming seasons. She replaces Debra J. Fisher, who served as showrunner on the first two seasons.
Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.
What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.
As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

Fans learned a lot more about Georgia’s past this season, which also informs the way she examines her life and how she parents her children.
“Georgia’s worldview is oddly limited for a woman with all these experiences that are contained, unfortunately, in this trauma, this grief,” Howey told Tudum. “It’s hard for her to open her worldview and see and imagine that Ginny has all of these other thoughts, opinions, feelings, and beliefs.

Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.
The Series: "Ginny & Georgia"
Where You Can Stream It: Netflix
The Pitch: If "Gilmore Girls" and "Big Little Lies" had a snarky little baby, it would be "Ginny & Georgia." Strap in and don't let the idyllic New England town fool you — this mother-daughter dramedy has blood on its hands, PTA meetings to attend, and lots of emotional turmoil to unpack. The series follows free-spirited single mother Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) as she relocates her family (for the millionth time in their lives) to a small Massachusetts town where they can do something they've never tried before: put down roots. But the road to new beginnings is a lot bumpier than expected, especially with a colorful past like Georgia's.

Netflix’s mother-daughter drama Ginny & Georgia was a pandemic era hit when its first season debuted back in February 2021. The show is about single mother Georgia Miller (Brienne Howey) who moves her teenage daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and son Austin (Diesel La Torraca) to Wellsbury after the death of her rich husband. While the show’s comparisons to Gilmore Girls certainly helped, it was really the dramedy’s Taylor Swift joke and “oppression Olympics” scenes that led to the show going viral … while also leaving it with a lot to improve upon for season two.
Ginny & Georgia season 2 picks up with Ginny and Austin living with Ginny’s father Zion (Nathan Mitchell) after discovering their mother murdered their stepdad. This season has sparked a lot of conversations around how the show has improved some of the major issues of...

Dynamic mother-daughter and best friend duo Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) return in “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2, which gets even more chaotic than the already very complex first season of the Netflix show. Another of Georgia’s past loves enters the mix, she commits some more questionable actions and many other twists and turns develop within the 10 hour-long episodes.
Ginny and her friends are no strangers to the TikTok scene, so some song choices reflect Gen Z’s poppy preferences. The hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia follows mother and daughter duo, 30-year-old single mother Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) and her 15-year-old daughter, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) who move from Texas to the town of Wellsbury. Along for the ride with them is Georgia’s nine-year-old son, Austin. Having moved multiple times before, they are no strangers to new beginnings but Wellsbury seems a bit different for the Miller family. The show’s first season explored this through the themes of race, romance and Georgia’s tendency to murder those close to her (except her beloved kids of course.) However, in season two we really get to understand the reasons why Georgia is the force she is and why she really wanted Wellsbury to be so different for her family.
The Ginny & Georgia season 2 finale opens the morning after Austin shoots his father, Gil Timmins (Aaron Ashmore) in the arm.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix show “Ginny & Georgia” releases Jan. 5, the streamer said Thursday.
A teaser clip released with the announcement picks up right where the first season left off with Ginny (Antonia Gentry) running away from home with her younger brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca).
The short snippet from Tudum watches Ginny’s mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) come home joyous off of her boyfriend’s political victory to discover that her daughter has left, the only sign of life some smoldering embers in the fireplace.
Set to Chet Faker and Flume’s “Drop the Game,” Georgia goes from gleefully boasting to white-hot rage, kneeling down by the fire’s remains and angrily throwing a fire poker into the opposite corner of the leftover ashes before breaking into sobs.
“The puzzle piece that was missing suddenly slides into place, and I see it,” Ginny’s voice narrates. “I see her.

"We're like the Gilmore Girls, but with bigger boobs!" That's what single mom, Georgia Miller, says to her daughter Ginny on Ginny and Georgia Season 1 Episode 1.
The line was used in the trailer before the show premiered. If the goal were to pique the interest of Gilmore Girls fans, I'd say it was a success. Everyone wanted to know if this show was the new Gilmore Girls.
Yes, both shows do have things in common. Both focus on a single mother and her daughter. Both mothers got pregnant as teenagers and have to learn how to survive. Both mothers are forces to be reckoned with.
A few other comparisons can be made. The shipping has similarities. Many have compared Zion and Joe to Christopher and Luke, as well as Hunter and Marcus to Dean and Jess.
Both shows also take place in small towns. So yes, the shows have similarities.

Marketed as an updated and darker version of Gilmore Girls, the idea of this new mother-daughter duo show, Ginny & Georgia, is instantly appealing. Netflix’s new top 10 show is about 15-year-old Ginny Miller, played by Antonia Gentry, who often feels more mature than her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey). When the family moves from Texas to a new town called Wellsbury in Massachusetts, Ginny isn’t too keen until she meets her super cute neighbor, Marcus, and his twin sister Maxine. But life is not so simple, and as secrets come to light, things get more complicated.
After finishing the show in 24 hours, I wish I could sit here and write about how compelling it is and how well it portrays that point in teenage life where you’re impulsive, awkward, and nervous as you try to figure out relationships and find yourself. However, while the town of Wellsbury is picture-perfect,...

At first glance, Netflix's new original series Ginny & Georgia can be seen as the modern Gilmore Girls, or, as the titular Georgia Miller (portrayed by Brianne Howey) unabashedly puts it, "We are like the Gilmore girls, but with bigger boobs." The show follows the story of a single mother, Georgia, and her two kids - a teenage daughter, Ginny (played by Antonia Gentry), and her sweet 9-year-old half-brother, Austin (Diesel La Torraca) - as they try to fit into a picturesque New England town, Wellsbury, Ma, in a bid to escape the horrors of Georgia's past. While the central premise is highly reminiscent of Amy Sherman-Palladino's comforting dramedy brimful with witty back-and-forth, Ginny & Georgia, for most parts, paves its own path as it injects several themes and plot points into the story, including a high school musical, "Sing Sing: A Musical of Love Behind Bars."

Taylor Swift is calling out Netflix YA drama series Ginny & Georgia over what she called a “lazy, deeply sexist” joke made about her dating life.
The line with which Swift took issue came in an episode during a conversation between Georgia, played by Brianne Howey, and her teenage daughter Ginny (Candy Jar), on whether Ginny had moved on from her boyfriend Marcus (Felix Mallard). “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift,” Ginny snapped.
Swift fans quickly denounced the line on social media, and Swift herself responded on Twitter. “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY,” Swift wrote. “Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you Broken heart Happy Women’s History Month I guess.” Netflix premiered Swift...

Netflix's new salacious dramedy Ginny & Georgia left viewers craving more with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. The show, which is reminiscent of Gilmore Girls meets Teenage Bounty Hunters, tracks the escapades of Georgia Miller and her kids, Ginny and Austin, who have no idea their mother is a criminal in disguise.
The story begins unraveling upon the mysterious death of Ginny's husband, Kenny, after which Georgia packs up her kids and moves to Wellsbury, Ma. Turns out, Kenny is but one in a long line of partners whom Georgia has discarded over the years - both metaphorically and literally. First was Ginny's father, Zion, whom Georgia met when they were both teenagers, but she left him when his family got too controlling, and they have since become an on-and-off couple. But what may be one of the bigger mysteries of the first season is the identity of Austin's dad.
We haven't met Austin's dad quite yet.

By age 15, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) had run away from home, survived on the streets for a year and given birth to her daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry). By the same age, Ginny had read a lot of books, but never kissed a boy or ever made a friend. No wonder Ginny looks at her gorgeous, confident mother with a mix of admiration, envy, exasperation and not a small amount of suspicion. Ginny’s right at that age, after all, when teens start to sniff out the secrets and shortcomings of their parents — and Georgia’s got more than most.

“Ginny & Georgia” begins with a change of scenery, as Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) uproots her two kids (Antonia Gentry and Diesel La Torraca as Ginny and Austin) and heads to a bucolic town in New England to start anew. This is as promising a start as any for a show with no shortage of willingness to attempt voiciness and attitude. Unfortunately, though, the Miller family’s new home is as short on personality as the Millers are themselves. And staggering through a spiky, jerry-rigged plot involving intimations of crime and trauma as well as teenage bumps in the road that only feel as seismic, “Ginny & Georgia” winds down its punishingly long first season having shouted a great deal, but said — about where Ginny and Georgia are and even who they are — almost nothing at all.
