- Auditioned for the role of Mayor of York in The White Princess (2017), but his poor attempt at the Yorkshire accent made him sound like a Northern game show host. The role eventually went to Derek Frood.
- Was originally cast as Mr Worth in the TV series Doc Martin (2004). As a joke, on Stuart's first day of filming, Martin Clunes and director Nigel Cole changed the name of the character to the innuendo-laden 'Ben Twilly'. The name remained in the show.

- At a film memorabilia auction in 2023 the top hat worn by Stuart in The Ballad of Lucy Sands (2024) sold for £490. However, at a previous auction the Pierre Cardin suit he wore on Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018) attracted very little interest and sold for the opening bid of just £10.
