One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. We know Penn Badgley is coming back for You season 5 as the lead character Joe Goldberg, and it’s probably a good bet that season 4’s Charlotte Ritchie will continue to have a prominent role in this final season. It has previously been announced that Madeline Brewer of The Handmaid’s Tale will have a series regular role in the new batch of episodes, and now Variety has broken the news that Anna Camp of the Pitch Perfect films and Griffin Matthews of The Flight Attendant have also been cast in series regular roles.
Camp will actually be playing two different characters, as she has been cast as both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg. Here are their descriptions: “Raegan is the cunning,...

As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Though repetitive due to its formula, the show is highly entertaining and has kept many fans coming back for more.
While many viewers are hoping and praying for the second season so the show can have more creative freedom and add some variety to the stories, others are happy with what they're getting. Especially since Elsbeth isn't afraid to reference a show or two to make things more interesting for the most attentive fans.
Who is Joe in Elsbeth?

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is a touch defensive as he ushers us into You Season 4. After leaving a trail of devastation across America, he swears he’s going to lay low and avoid romance in his new home of London. Joe’s new mantra is “No love. No people. Just books.” Then he looks out his window and his resolve to be an introvert is gone. All that remains is his crush on Kate Galvin, portrayed by Feel Good dream girl Charlotte Ritchie.
In Part 1, their complicated attraction blossoms. On the one hand, Joe’s hunt for the Eat the Rich Killer is keeping them apart. But, Kate’s own standoffishness and suspicion is its own romantic obstacle. “I had a feeling that there was something deeper in her,” Ritchie tells Tudum. “There’s something in her hatefulness that is so self-hating. With You’s final season set to be released anytime soon this year, Netflix is putting an end to one of its most thrilling stories ever made.
Following Joe Goldberg’s horrifying deeds while he stalks his numerous love interests to death, the show’s finale hasn’t received an exact release date yet, but some brand new photos coming straight from the production set have seemingly confirmed one of the most beloved characters’ return while also starting fans’ viral theory.
You’s latest season left Joe on an even more sinister note than ever before showing that he’s felt guilt-free about all the murders he committed and then masterfully hid from going public.
While Joe’s current love interest, art gallery director Katherine "Kate" Galvin-Lockwood, seemingly has no clue about what (or rather who) she’s dealing with, season 5 may also feature some other characters that miraculously escaped...

One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. While executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter said that You was always intended to be a “five season journey”, showrunner Sera Gamble decided not to guide the journey to its conclusion. Although she remains attached as an executive producer, she has passed showrunner duties over to fellow executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. Thankfully, Foley and Lo are no strangers to You. They have been working on the series since season 1 and season 2, respectively. Now You season 5 is gearing up for production, and Deadline reports that Madeline Brewer – whose credits include The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange Is the New Black, and the horror film Cam – has joined the cast.

Imagine a world where your most beloved television characters could run for president. Sounds like a great idea, right? Now, consider some of those characters actually being in office.

On Sept. 29, 2021, Netflix added another way for you to fall in love with your favorite shows and movies: a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. But not everyone gets to experience the magic of seeing the words “Penn Badgley is hot. Joe Goldberg is not” or “Eddie Freakin Munson” towering over the city. How do you measure a year? At IndieWire, it’s in shows streamed and movies watched; every year we get to December and find ourselves exclaiming “That came out this year?!” while measuring the year’s cultural highs and lows through what we consumed on-screen.
In 2023 alone, Netflix premiered more “Ginny & Georgia” and “Firefly Lane,” Emmy hopefuls “Beef” and “The Diplomat,” the heartfelt conclusions of “Never Have I Ever” and “Sex Education,” as well as breakout hits like “The Night Agent,” “One Piece,” and “Wednesday.” It was the year of Joe Goldberg taking London in “You” Season 4, of spinoffs “Queen Charlotte” and “Xo, Kitty,” of “The Witcher” switching leads and “The Crown” ending its reign. Many of those titles, while expected, didn’t even have public release dates at the beginning of the year.

Even before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of the summer, 2023 marked a pivotal time in TV.
Studios and streamers spent the year compiling a lengthy list of small screen staples ending in 2023 and 2024; the announcements came amidst a string of mergers, strategy pivots, and a smattering of natural narrative conclusions that for good or bad were impacted by the industry-wide work stoppages.
From awards darlings like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” (renewed for a sixth and final season expected next year) to tried-and-true audience favorites like “Archer,” “The Blacklist,” and “Riverdale,” many of the TV shows that got the chop this year were considered buzzy cultural touchstones at one time or another.
Emmy winners “Barry” and “Succession” famously both came to an end on May 28 in a doubled-header spring TV finale that closed the curtain on a memorable phase in HBO’s post-“Game of Thrones” recovery.

TV show cancellations are nothing new. Beloved shows have been canceled before fans were ready for them to end for decades. But in a time where streaming services have begun to fully erase their own content in addition to canceling shows before they have a chance to find their footing, the future of the shows we love and our ability to enjoy them feels even more out of our hands than it did before. Cancellation doesn’t just mean that our favorite series is coming to an end, now it means that it could be erased entirely from existence.
Even with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failing to meet the Writers Guild of America’s (WGA) reasonable terms and prolonging the strike in addition to all of the network and streamer mergers, there have been plenty of series renewals thus far. You is one show that keeps on giving — from wholesome characters to gripping storylines. David Fincher spooked Venice with the world premiere of his latest movie “The Killer,” which stars Michael Fassbender as an assassin. The Netflix thriller earned a respectable 5-minute standing ovation at its screening on the Lido on Sunday night.
Fassbender and co-star Tilda Swinton couldn’t attend the premiere because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Fincher walked the carpet alone, with a small group of Netflix executives, as he signed posters of some of his most beloved movies, from “Fight Club” to “Se7en.”
But Fincher must not have received the memo about Venice’s tradition of showering movies with standing ovations after a gala premiere. As the audience clapped for him, he uncomfortably shifted on his feet and flailed his hands in the air and mouthed: “What is this?” A producer led him down the stairs from his balcony seat to meet fans, but Fincher thought he was leaving the theater.

As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, for better and for worse, companies like Netflix are trying to find new ways to stay relevant and keep people coming back to watch their movies and TV shows over the competition’s. Netflix is well known for making the binge-watch model of release popular, with entire seasons dropping on the streamer at once to encourage viewers to consume a series as fast as they can. But now that weekly episode releases are becoming popular again for TV shows on services like Hulu, Disney+, and Max, Netflix seems to be trying to find a way to keep up hype for their shows beyond the first week a season drops.
Rather than entirely scrapping the binge-watch model, Netflix has instead chosen to adopt a hybrid of sorts where they split seasons into two parts and release them separately.

There's quite a few people out there who still have unfinished business with Joe Goldberg, and one of them is Ellie from season two of "You." On June 17, Netflix released an early teaser video for "You" season five during the streamer's annual Tudum fan event in Brazil. In the video, Penn Badgley hints the show's final season could feature some surprising guest stars - and one of them might just be Jenna Ortega of "Wednesday" fame.
"Hola, Brazil!" Badgley says at the start of the video. "I've heard you're on the edge of your seats waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to 'You.' More importantly, you're considering what, or should I say who, Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York. Though I can't say who just yet, we all know there are many loose ends from Joe's past. The question is, 'Who are you?...

All it takes is one stray comment to unleash the rage of sex-scene discourse. Back in February, "You" star Penn Badgley learned this the hard way. He didn't realize it at the time, of course: Badgley was simply recalling a conversation with series creator Sera Gamble, where he asked if it would be possible to reduce the number of sex scenes in the fourth season. The story was told during an episode of the actor's podcast "Podcrushed," where he explained that "Fidelity in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me. It's got to the point where I don't want to do [sex scenes]."
Unsurprisingly, that ignited a fiery social media debate as people picked apart his use of the word "fidelity," and argued that "sex scenes are part of the job." Badgley attempted to clarify his perspective, but in typical internet discourse fashion, his additional comments just fanned the flames of controversy.

Bestselling author and screenwriter Caroline Kepnes has signed with CAA, Variety can report exclusively.
Kepnes is the writer-creator behind the four-book “You” series, following the exploits of magnetic serial killer Joe Goldberg. Her novels are the source material for the Netflix scripted juggernaut “You,” adapted by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. The series reinvigorated the career of Penn Badgley in the lead role of Goldberg, and has proven a massive performer on the streaming platform. A fifth and final season of the series was just greenlit.
Kepnes, a native of Cape Cod, will next release “For You and Only You” on April 25 from Random House. It joins previous titles “You Love Me,” “Hidden Bodies,” and the flagship “You.” She is also the author of the novel “Providence,” a supernatural love story. Her works have been translated into numerous languages and continue to build a rapt audience around the world.

Penn Badgley is one of pop culture’s most recognizable and popular actors. He first rose to fame for his role as Dan in Gossip Girl, but it is as the charming serial killer Joe Goldberg in Netflix’s You that Badgley has really made his mark. One of those ventures is his podcast, Podcrushed, which launched in 2022. What exactly is an anti-hero? Is it implied that he is an evil character who receives the most attention throughout the story? Or is he a hero driven to commit evil by circumstance? We’re all familiar with Joe Goldberg, the protagonist from “You.” Yes, he’s an anti-hero with a pure motivation to do evil things, while in the three-part HBO Max series “Barry,” we see Barry as a victim of manipulation by others rather than his own mind. His rational mind is always urging him to break out of the cycle of violence, but eventually, he comes to the realization that there is no such thing as free will in his life. By pursuing a career that requires him to carry out the commands of his superiors, he becomes a mere puppet who is forced to do whatever his handlers ask him to do, whether it is evil or good.

Penn Badgley is currently steaming up screens with his role in the hit Netflix series You. As Joe Goldberg, Badgley has earned critical acclaim and helped make You a huge success. However, long before acting in You, Badgley was appearing in another popular TV show – Gossip Girl. Badgley’s role as Dan Humphrey was responsible for making him a star. Ultimately, Dan would prove to be one of the most important characters in Gossip Girl. To say that the serial stalker at the center of Netflix's "You" has a bad relationship with women would be an egregious understatement. Between his mommy issues, body count, and the huge, people-sized cage in his basement, Joe (Penn Badgley) is the definition of a walking red flag. Kidnapping, stalking, and murder are high on the list of Joe's crimes against humanity, but just below them is his penchant for being ridiculously pretentious.
Thanks to his inner monologue, we've heard Joe complain about every person, place, or thing he's ever encountered. The man spends half his thoughts on references to classic literature and the rest judging everyone who doesn't share his exact interests. And that's when he's not obsessively stalking his way into people's lives. So even though it hasn't really come up, I can confidently say that Joe Goldberg probably has terrible taste in music — which means he...
