Washington — The Kennedy Center Honors was a decidedly tuneful affair, with musical talents representing four of its five recipients – vocalists and/or songwriters Dionne Warwick, Renée Fleming, Queen Latifah and Barry Gibb — along with actor/comedian/filmmaker Billy Crystal.
The program, in its 46th year, followed the traditional format that showcases tributes to each honoree by artists and celebs whose identities are undisclosed in advance. It kicked off with a lively parade of dancers down the aisles, led by emcee and former honoree Gloria Estefan and accompanied by Sheila E on drums — a first for the event. Produced again by Done and Dusted Inc., it will air Dec. 27 on CBS.
Omitted this year was one familiar staple at the event – the inclusion of brief video biographies of each honoree that emphasized their childhoods and routes to success. Instead, minimal use of videos embellished career highlights.

Golden Globes pianist Chloe Flower has set the record straight by revealing that she wasn’t the one playing the piano during Michelle Yeoh’s or anyone else’s acceptance speeches.
On Tuesday (10 January) night’s ceremony, Yeoh won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
During her speech, she recounted arriving in Hollywood 40 years before and being told she would not be a success as she “was a minority”.
Approximately one minute into her speech, music on the piano began playing, indicating she needed to finish her speech – but Yeoh shut down any notion she would end her speech there.
“Shut up, please,” she said, laughing, adding: “I can beat you up.”
Many Twitter users presumed Flower was the one playing the piano in the background as she was seen performing on it a few times on camera.

On Jan. 10, Chloe Flower showcased her angelic piano skills between hilarious monologues and unexpected words of wisdom at the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. During the evening, several award recipients were seen shouting at Flower as piano music began to play when they went over the allotted time during their speeches. While the pianist, who has been a professional musician for nearly 13 years, glided her fingers across the keys all night long, she made it clear that she was not responsible for the cutoff music.
"I would never play piano over people's speeches!!" she wrote on Twitter that night. "I'm only playing when you see me on camera!" Flower played the commercial intros and outros, the opening theme song, and the closing scene music for the Golden Globes.
"Thank you for all the love and support during the #goldenglobes last night!"

Golden Globes pianist Chloe Flower wants to make one thing super clear: She was not playing music over the winners’ speeches at the 2023 Golden Globes. She also tells The Hollywood Reporter that she cleared the air with Michelle Yeoh, who had joked “I can beat you up” when music played during her acceptance speech.
“I’m feeling great,” says Flower the following day. “I saw Michelle, and she embraced me. She reached out and grabbed my hand, and I was like, ‘I would never play during your speech.’ We talked for a minute, so it was really nice.”
Yeoh, 60, won best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. As the piano started to play to usher Yeoh off the stage, the actress joked: “Shut up, please. I can beat you up.”

Ok, so let’s talk about Jerrod Carmichael’s Shelly Miscavige joke at Tuesday night’s 80th Golden Globe Awards. If my Twitter feed is any indication — and I’m well aware that it mostly isn’t — that is the thing people are discussing from the Globes. That and pianist Chloe Flower, who was Not playing winners off of the stage in the middle portion of the show.
So Carmichael came out cradling a trio of Globe statues in his arm.
“Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned…” Carmichael said. The audience of stars laughed appreciatively. “Look, I’m just the host, briefly or whatever, but I have a pitch: I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige.”
Several members of the audience “Ooh”-ed. Two or three cackled. The primary sound, though, was silence.

Dealt an impossible hand, Jerrod Carmichael did just about everything right. To kick off the 2023 Golden Globe Awards — the first ceremony since NBC canceled last year’s telecast following a slew of accusations against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — the lead of “The Carmichael Show” and Emmy-winning stand-up special “Rothaniel” slowed things down (telling the crowd of celebrities to “settle”), took a seat (onstage!), and called it like it is: “I’ll tell you why I’m here,” he said. “I’m here because I’m Black.”
While recounting how and explaining why he agreed to host — lingering questions for the discerning comedian’s fans, as well as fair questions for anyone watching — Carmichael laid the situation out plainly, in case casual viewers weren’t up to speed on the industry drama. “I won’t say they were a racist organization,” Carmichael said, emphasizing one aspect of the HFPA’s many past transgressions,...

The first string of presenters for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were unveiled this morning and that includes Ana de Armas, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne, Nicole Byer, Niecy Nash-Betts, Quentin Tarantino and Tracy Morgan. As the Hollywood Foreign Press Association looks to get back on its feet after weathering diversity controversies, it has been buzzed that personal reps wouldn’t allow their clients to get back on stage. However, as the HFPA has expanded its ranks with journalists of color, it appears that the industry is pivoting in its attitude toward the organization.
De Armas is nominated at the Globes for Best Actress Feature Drama for her turn in Blonde, Curtis is up for Supporting Actress Feature for Everything Everywhere All at Once, while Nash-Betts is nominated for Supporting Actress TV Limited Series/Movie for Dahmer -Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

If Cardi B throws a party the same way she performs on stage, we honestly need an invite to her next shindig. The "I Like It" rapper made her Grammys debut on Sunday night with a performance that proved she's definitely no newbie to putting on a show. Considering she's also nominated for five awards, we think people should get the point now.

While the rapper was surrounded by dancers in shimmering jumpsuits, she was definitely the center of attention and flaunted a few moves of her own - all...
