It’s no secret that Paolo Sorrentino is profoundly obsessed with the topics of youth and great beauty. Such preoccupations — and several more! — are self-evident in films like “Youth” and “The Great Beauty,” two unbridled displays of Italian maximalism that are every bit as subtle as their titles suggest.
Following 2021’s achingly personal “The Hand of God,” in which the Neapolitan director filtered the agony and the ecstasy of his formative years through the same veil of Fellini-esque sacrilege that he’d previously cast over movies about Silvio Berlusconi and the fading splendor of Roman history, Sorrentino is back on his proverbial bullshit with another sprawling flesh parade that’s more consumed with abstract ideals than it is with the stuff of life itself. Once again, he returns with a rapturously sumptuous film that blurs the line between the sacred and the profane until sex feels like religion and religion feels like sex,...

Despite still being in Early Access on Steam, Hades 2 has already captivated fans, much like its predecessor. The frenetic gameplay and charismatic characters are key attractions, solidifying its position as a favorite title of the year, even though it’s incomplete in some aspects.
This has led Hades 2 fans to speculate about what the final addition from Supergiant Games to Melinoe’s Silver Pool will be. Recent theories suggest that the sixth and final weapon in the game will be a bow, as pointed out by some Reddit users.
Will the Bow Be Melinoe’s Final Weapon in Hades 2? What will be Melinoe’s final weapon in Hades 2?
Currently, Melinoe has access to five weapons that players can utilize in various runs through the game: Sister Blades, Moonstone Axe, Argent Skull, Witch’s Staff, and Umbral Flames. Each of these Hades 2 weapons has unique characteristics and significantly influences the gameplay,...

Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Over the past few years Italian cinema has been making strides in the global arena and 2024 looks likely to bolster its international standing. New works by top auteurs Paolo Sorrentino and Luca Guadagnino will be launching from the festival circuit just as a fresh crop of directors comes to fore, starting with Margherita Vicario, whose first film “Gloria!” scored a Berlin competition slot.
Below is a compendium of new Italian movies set to hit this year’s fest circuit.
“Another End” – Gael García Bernal and Renate Reinsve (“The Worse Person in the World”) star as lovers caught in an unusual bind in Italian director Piero Messina’s sci-fi film “Another End” which is competing in Berlin. This second feature by Messina – whose first feature, “The Wait,” launched with a splash in the 2015 Venice competition – is set in a near-future when a new technology exists that can put the consciousness of...

Italy — which is the Country of Focus at this year’s European Film Market in Berlin — is flourishing in terms of production activity just as its box office grosses start to pick up. Yet there’s room for improvement in terms of the number of titles that are able to break out internationally.
The Cinema Italiano output currently stands at over 350 movies a year, including co-productions, which is up compared with pre-pandemic levels. Still, while exports are growing, Italy only has a handful of directors — such as Paolo Sorrentino, Luca Guadagnino, Matteo Garrone and Alice Rohrwacher — whose movies consistently manage to travel around the world.
That said, a new generation of Italian auteurs is emerging. Case in point are the country’s two titles in the Berlin Film Festival competition: star-studded sci-fi film “Another End,” and musical comedy “Gloria!”

“The only difference between children and grown-ups is that the grown-ups are unsupervised.” This line, uttered in the second half of Bill Ross IV and Turner Ross’s seventh feature Gasoline Rainbow, is not particularly framed as words of wisdom. The award-winning filmmakers have explored American life through places, people, and their interconnectedness since the late 2000s in a way that’s far from linear. A multitude of voices, characters (or simply people) populate the screen, their practice exploratory before it aims at any definitive answers. The why and the why-not are irrelevant questions, yet every new offering feels as profound as life itself. Gasoline Rainbow, a premiere in this year’s Venice Orizzonti sidebar, benefits from their trademark hybrid filmmaking, placing nonprofessional teenage actors on a thrilling 513-mile journey from Wiley, Oregon, to the Pacific Ocean.

Gary Oldman has been cast in Paolo Sorrentino's new film. The 65-year-old actor has landed a role in the untitled Italian-language drama that is currently filming in Naples.Details about Oldman's part have not been revealed, but Sorrentino's film is about a woman named Partenope "who bears the name of her city but is neither siren nor myth".In Greek mythology, Parthenope – as she is known in English – is the name of a siren who, after failing to lure Odysseus with her songs, cast herself into the sea and drowned. Her body washed up on a symbolic foundational rock where Naples lies.Sorrentino said: "Her long life embodies the full repertoire of human existence: youth's lightheartedness and its demise, classical beauty and its inexorable permutations, pointless and impossible loves, stale flirtations and dizzying passion, night-time kisses on Capri, flashes of joy and persistent suffering, real and invented fathers, endings and new beginnings.

Announced in Venice, where Sorrentino is something of a favored son having premiered several features there, the two Oscar winners will team up for the as-yet-untitled project, which is being produced by Lorezeno Miele for The Apartment Pictures, part of Fremantle (The Hollywood Reporter‘s international producer of the year) and behind Sorrentino’s last film, 2021’s Venice-bowing The Hand of God). Other producers include Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, Sorrentino for Numero 10 and Ardavan Safaee for Pathe.
The feature — Sorrentino’s 10th — takes him to his native Naples again, telling the story of a woman named Partenope “who bears the name of her city but is neither siren nor myth.”

The hard drives are concealed in lipstick cases and the latex face masks are now molded with the help of a 3D printer, but the considerable and surprisingly consistent pleasures of the Mission: Impossible series rely on more vintage touches: ambiguous bombshells of a classical Hollywood beauty; Cold War-era villains; and Tom Cruise’s eternal commitment to scaling buildings, escaping shackles, and crashing through plates of glass.
Mirroring phases of the star’s career, the franchise has cast Ethan Hunt as a cocksure maverick (Brian De Palma’s original), devoted romantic (John Woo’s Mission: Impossible II), and a prospective husband (J.J. Abrams’s Mission: Impossible III). Since then, a series which has never shown much interest in character-building has become the perfect embodiment of Cruise’s illegible reputation. Brad Bird’s Ghost Protocol rendered Hunt an avatar, nearly silent in his service to the director’s kinetic set pieces,...

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the second episode of "The Mandalorian" season 3.
Lightsabers have been a staple of the "Star Wars" franchise since Luke Skywalker saw one for the first time in the Tatooine cave of Obi-Wan Kenobi in "A New Hope." Over the decades, we've learned about the different styles of lightsabers, the Kyber crystals needed to create them, what the different colors might mean, and how to wield them. The Darksaber is a bit different than the rest, however. It was created by Tarre Vizsla a thousand years before "The Mandalorian" takes place. Tarre was the first to be both a Mandalorian and a Jedi, despite the fact that those two groups have a less-than-friendly history. The Jedi held it in their Temple until the Mandalorians freed it. Now their lore says the wielder of the Darksaber has the right to rule Mandalore, but only if they win it through combat.

John Wick is burning the candle at both ends in the latest franchise installment.
Keanu Reeves returns as the titular assassin, now on the run from organization The High Table, in the new “Sopranos”-esque trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 4.”
Chad Stahelski returns to direct Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Donnie Yen, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Skarsgård, and Hiroyuki Sanada in the globe-trotting fourth film, with Paris being one of the five locations teased. “Chapter 4” picks up after Wick was delivered to the Bowery King (Fishburne) at the end of “John Wick Chapter 3,” after trying to topple the assassin hierarchy of The High Table.
Michael Finch and Shay Hatten pen the script for the film, which finds “new and interesting ways to have John Wick suffer” through even more insane stunts, as director Stahelski said.
“John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there’s no happy ending.

One of the most impressive aspects of the "John Wick" series is its commitment to world-building. Back when the first film came out nearly a decade ago, the story was relatively simple. Ex-assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) comes out of retirement to unleash a wave of hot fury against those who murdered his dog. That alone would have made the film a hit, but to sweeten the deal, we were also introduced to how the world of assassins operates between the cracks. Through the assassin-owned hotel known as the Continental, the operation of their own currency, rules, and relationship dynamics are able to flourish out in the open. It's become so popular that there are currently two spin-off projects in the works.
Each subsequent "John Wick" film has been able to pry open a bigger assassin underground than the previous one, without losing sight of Reeves' place in the story.

Joel and Ethan Coen are some of the most consistent filmmakers around. Nearly every film they put out seems to be just as intelligent and well-written as the others, with tons of memorable characters. In 2000, coming off the great success of hits like "Fargo" and "Raising Arizona," the Coen brothers were hot as they'd ever been. It's no wonder that, for their next project, "O Brother Where Art Thou?," they were able to get huge star George Clooney on board without him giving it a second thought, which Clooney spoke about in a 2000 interview.
"They brought the script and set it down and said 'We wrote this, do you wanna do it?' and I said 'Yeah.' And they go, 'Do you wanna read it?' and I go, 'Well, alright, but I'll do it.'"

John Wick is back in action.
The official trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 4” has been released, featuring Keanu Reeves playing the beloved gun-fu action hero once again.
In the new trailer, Wick must challenge Bill Skarsgård’s chilling villain, the Marquis de Gramont, to single combat in order to win his freedom. Wick prepares for the showdown like it’s his last-ever fight, complete with a brand new suit and guns — a whole lot of them. We then see Wick do what he does best: killing people in flashy, jaw-dropping ways. The trailer shows him riding a horse in the desert while shooting at people, bashing a man’s head with nunchucks repeatedly, hacking a man apart with an axe in a nightclub and engaging in a close-quarters, gun-and-sword fight with Donnie Yen’s character.

I don’t really believe — at least for the ‘John Wick’ movies — in a three-act structure. I believe in storytelling and leaving it. You know, we’ve always seen John Wick as Odysseus. So we take the time we need to tell the story. As long as we don’t fall asleep watching it, we keep it going. But I guess there is a bathroom limit.”

So even though Shazam! featured a variation of Doctor Savana and Black Adam stars in his own solo film, producers of Shazam! Fury of the Gods had plenty of comic book choices when it came to choosing the next baddie to battle Billy Batson and his super-powered family.

Brad Pitt, who also served as executive producer, starred as Achilles, the broody warrior whose invulnerability made battle ironically dull to watch. A centerpiece of the original story, in "Troy," ...
