Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ‘Mr India’ director shared a picture of his Indian passport.
Along with that, he wrote: “The question today from the immigration officer in London was not ‘How long are you staying , Sir’.. but ‘Congratulations Sir, on your ‘Moon Landing’. .. #passport”.
Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has recently achieved the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the South Pole of the Moon.

Many Asians continue to embrace arranged marriages in the sub-continent. Even in the UK, modern arranged marriages involve a variety of matchmaking practices where each family tailors its own version to suit modern identities and ambitions.
For the sizeable migrant population comprising Indians and Pakistanis, it may not be a homogeneous tradition, though by and large it remains the preferred choice.
At the heart of the story is an enterprising London-based filmmaker Zoe (Lily James), who proposes to make a documentary about Muslims and their obsession with arranged marriages. "Or assisted marriages," as her neighbour and friend Kazim (Shahzad Latif) explains.
The Khans (Azmi and Jeff Mirza) are not just next-door neighbours; they are best friends too. Zoe barges into Kazim’s place unannounced and...

Love contractually? That’s the setup at the heart of “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” — a new cross-cultural rom-com starring Lily James and Shazad Latif that Shout! Factory released the trailer for Wednesday.
It’s also the name documentary filmmaker Zoe (James) chooses for her project following childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Latif) on his journey to an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage. Zoe is a cynic who’s had no luck with dating apps; Kaz is optimistic that his marriage to Maymouna (Sajal Aly) will follow in his parents’ good example.
The trailer opens with a look at the neighborly rapport Zoe and her mother Cath (Emma Thompson) enjoy with their next-door neighbors. While she keeps coming up short swiping for Mr. Right, Shazad drops the news of his prospective marriage, introducing two different perspectives on the issue: “What about love?” versus “You grow to love the person you’re with.

Arranged marriage is a foreign concept to many, though it’s a proud tradition in other parts of the world. Sharing a life with someone you’ve never met can be scary, but it can also lead to true love. In today’s What’s Love Got to Do with It? trailer, Zoe (Lily James) and Kazim (Shazad Latif) document Kazim’s journey from bachelor to husband-to-be after his parents arrange for him to marry a stranger. As Lily follows her best friend’s assisted marriage, she learns more about his Pakistani heritage, her attitude toward relationships, and the feelings she’s been keeping hidden from others.

"You're forgetting I've seen it work!" Shout Factory has finally set a release date in the US for this British romcom titled What's Love Got to Do with It?, from filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. It first premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival this month, and opened in the UK in January earlier this year. This is the same UK trailer from last year we already posted before. The vibrant, cross-cultural love story opens in theaters nationwide on May 5th from Shout! Studios. Zoe is a filmmaker and Kazim is a doctor. They grew up next door to each other, though their worlds couldn't be farther apart. When his family starts figuring out how to arrange a marriage for him, Zoe takes the opportunity to make this romantic adventure the subject of her next documentary. Along the way, she comes to understand there's something to learn from this profoundly different approach to finding love.

Early on in “What’s Love Got to Do With It?,” enterprising London-based filmmaker Zoe (Lily James) pitches a proposed documentary about Muslim arranged marriages to a pair of white male commissioners. They’re bored and disengaged until they realize how the topic can be dressed up in the tropes and lingo of Western romantic comedy to appeal to a general British audience: One suggests interview inserts in the style of “When Harry Met Sally,” the other name-drops “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” as a reference point. When Zoe suggests titling the doc “Love Contractually,” the deal is done.
Sharper than anything else in Shekhar Kapur’s pleasant, easygoing comedy, the scene neatly satirizes how nuanced cross-cultural material can be blandly packaged and whitewashed for the mainstream — a point that would land harder if “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” didn’t proceed to do much the same thing. At a push,...

With the traditional white and trite rom-com formula looking increasingly tired, there is an exciting opportunity for contemporary cinema to shake things up. The search for a partner in today’s more diverse society – navigating love and marriage traditions across cultures – is ground ripe for exploration.
Unfortunately, What’s Love Got To Do With It? stumbles on that ground pretty early on and never regains its feet.
Zoe (Lily James), our mildly unlikeable protagonist, is a documentarian with terrible taste in men and a mother who is overly invested in her finding The One. Cath (Emma Thompson), Zoe’s mum, might be bitter about the brutal end of her marriage but she still believes that her little girl should be working harder to find her own happily ever after.
Until Zoe finally walks down the aisle, Cath can content herself with living vicariously through her close friends and neighbours the Khans...

For a solid decade, the U.K. contributed some of the most iconic floppy-haired lotharios, airport dashes and front-door confessions in romcom history. Films such as “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (1994), “Notting Hill” (1999) and “Love Actually” (2003) basically invented such hallmarks of the genre.
But in the last decade, the global-facing British romcom has all but disappeared from cinemas. Richard Curtis, the brains behind the aforementioned hits as well as the “Bridget Jones” adaptations, says the heavy lifting keeping romcoms alive has largely been carried out in the television ranks. The writer cites examples such as the BBC’s “Gavin & Stacey” and “Fleabag” and Channel 4’s “Catastrophe” as “blazing examples.”
“Unexpectedly to me, I would say that trying to write vaguely autobiographical films with jokes in them about how complicated love is, has probably happened more on telly than in cinema,” Curtis tells Variety.

Think about it: when did you last see a great British romcom? Can you even remember the last time anyone achieved that perfect alchemy between wistful longing, self-deprecating humour and characters who live in incredibly nice houses? There’s been endless fretting about whether the genre can adapt to a more inclusive, feminist age – but with the big-hearted What’s Love Got to Do With It?, we can call off the search party. The first feature film written by Jemima Khan is a charming cross-cultural comedy that can be ranked alongside British classics like Bend It Like Beckham, and has the confidence of a Richard Curtis classic.

Pakistani star Sajal Aly, who is also one of the leads in Shekhar Kapur’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It?,” will lead a series adaptation of Urdu-language novel “Umrao Jaan Ada.”
A classic of Urdu literature, the novel, written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa in 1899, is known for its portrayal of the culture and society of the 19th century Indian subcontinent, particularly the lives of courtesans.
The novel has had several film adaptations. In Pakistan, Hasan Tariq directed “Umrao Jaan Ada” (1972), with Rani in the title role. In India, Muzaffar Ali’s “Umrao Jaan” (1981) starred Rekha, while J.P. Dutta’s 2006 adaptation “Umrao Jaan” starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The novel also inspired two 1958 Indian films – S.M. Yusuf’s “Mehndi” and Nakhshab Jarchavi’s “Zindagi Ya Toofan.”
A Pakistani television adaptation was aired on Geo TV in 2003 and an Indian TV adaptation played on the Doordarshan Urdu channel in 2014. In 2019, Indian...

Pakistani actors Sajal Ali, Kubra Khan, and Mehwish Hayat have spoken out against allegations that they were being used as “honey traps” by the Pakistani army.
Their statements came after a retired Pakistan Army officer named Adil Raja claimed in a YouTube video that some of the country’s female actors were used by the military to trap politicians.
Raja didn’t name any actors but he ended up revealing the actors’ initials.
Soon after the video went viral, social media users were quick to make assumptions that the actors in question are Ali, Khan, and Hayat.
“It is very sad that our country is becoming morally debased and ugly; character assassination is the worst form of humanity and sin,” Ali wrote in a tweet on Monday (2 January).
Khan also responded to the allegations by announcing that she’ll take action against Raja.

Can you tell us about this project and why you chose to direct it?
Shekhar Kapur: Because the script was wonderful. I read the script and I remember calling my lawyer and telling him that he has to make this deal. It is becoming really hard to make films these days, you either make a Marvel film or something commercial. If you want to make something real, it is difficult to do so. When I read the script,...

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival kicked off its second edition on Friday with a splashy gala that alongside Egyptian icon Yousra and a plethora of Arab talent also saw Guy Ritchie, Sharon Stone and Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan on the red carpet.
Held in the auditorium of the Ritz Carlton hotel in Jeddah, on the Red Sea’s eastern shore, the ceremony served as a strong affirmation of the event’s theme “Film is Everything,” and of the special meaning of cinema in a country where, until December 2017, moviegoing was banned for religion-related reasons.
Saudi producer and philanthropist Mohammed Al Turki, who is the event’s CEO, in his speech called the fest and market “a clear indicator of change that plays a crucial role in transforming and reshaping the future for our next generation of creatives.”

Arranged marriage is a tried-and-true trope in Bollywood romcoms, which typically champion love and social progress over tradition, even if they’ve hardly moved the needle for decades despite the genre’s immense popularity. Though set in London and revolving around arranged marriage in the South Asian diaspora, it’s easy to make assumptions about Toronto Film Festival premiere “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” based on genre conventions and cliché.
But this is most definitely not what Bollywood romcom enthusiasts might expect. For starters, the story concerns overseas Pakistanis and not Indians. The film also doesn’t outright frame arranged marriage as something outdated and stifling. If anything, it encourages viewers to not rush to judgment.
Moreover, its protagonist is actually a white woman. Zoe (Lily James), is a socially conscious documentary filmmaker from an ethnically diverse part of London. Her mother, Cath (Emma Thompson), while fully embracing the multiculturalism around her,...

Having absolutely nothing to do with the Tina Turner biopic of the same name (minus the question mark), What’s Love Got To Do With It? serves as a master class in how to adhere faithfully to the classic romantic-comedy template and yet still emerge with something that delivers delightfully on both sides of the hyphen.
Serving as the first foray into the rom-com arena for filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, of Elizabeth and Bandit Queen renown, the effervescent cross-culture confection may not be the first to examine the practice of arranged marriage in the age of Tinder, but Kapur’s soulful touch, working from a knowing script by Jemima Khan, hits all the desired marks.

For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. It's premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival this month, and I've already heard some great things about it from buzz in the UK. They grew up next door to each other, though their worlds couldn’t be farther apart. When Kazim's family starts figuring out how to arrange a marriage for him, Zoe takes the opportunity to make this romantic adventure the subject of her next documentary. Along the way, she comes to understand there's something to learn from this profoundly different approach to finding love. This is a nice twist on the usual romcom,...

The Netflix interpretation of the “Resident Evil” franchise is “a completely brand new retelling of the story that follows the lore,” says popular South Asian-Canadian actor Ahad Raza Mir, who plays Arjun Batra in the series.
“Resident Evil” is a live action, scripted series that tells a new story building on Capcom’s hit video game franchise. Lance Reddick stars as Albert Wesker and the cast also includes Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nuñez. Constantin Film, which previously produced the six-feature film franchise based on the games, serves as the studio behind the series. Andrew Dabb serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Mary Leah Sutton also writing and executive producing.
