“Shtisel” star Ayelet Zurer is set to lead a new Israeli drama titled “The Best Worst Thing.”
In the new show Zurer plays Dr Amalia Levi, a breast cancer specialist who finds a suspicious lump in her chest. As she begins her own breast cancer journey, this time as a patient, she is unexpectedly joined by Micha Hadad (Amos Tamam), a male politician who has also just been diagnosed.
“As they embark on a shared treatment journey together, fuelled by hope and fear, they discover they have more in common than a disease,” reads the logline. “Under the shadow of a ticking clock, Amalia and Micha discover that the worst thing that could possibly happen to them is also the best thing that has ever happened to them.”
The eight-part series, which will premiere on Feb. 19 in Israel on local network Keshet 12, was created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon.

Hot off the success of “No Man’s Land,” Israel’s Spiro Films and France’s Haut et Court TV are re-teaming on “Armageddon,” a sprawling thriller miniseries looking at Christian extremists operating in the Holy Land.
The show is being created by David Ackerman, who previously worked in national security in Israel and went on to pen the film “Blank Bullet” inspired by the story of Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination, and “Jerusalem,” a gritty geopolitical thriller drama which competed at last year’s Series Mania.
Ackerman is currently writing the script for “Armageddon,” which weaves several characters, including a Christian American priest who travels with a few disciples to the Kibbutz Megiddo. Appearing friendly and charitable, the group starts forging bonds within the small community, including a mother and a son, while pursuing their secret agenda: find the Antichrist who will provoke a war that will fulfil their biblical prophecy...

Hulu’s No Man’s Land tells the story of the Syrian civil war through the eyes of Antoine, a young French man, in search for his estranged, presumed-to-be-dead sister. While unraveling the mystery, piece by piece, Antoine ends up joining forces with Isis’ biggest nightmare — a unit of Kurdish female fighters — and travels with them in Isis occupied territory.
The drama premieres November 18 on Hulu.
No Man’s Land co-creator and executive producer Maria Feldman said the idea came to her while watching a news report on the Ypj, an all-female militia fighting Isis in Syria. Feldman said Isis soldiers are scared of the Ypj.
“One of the women explained they want Isis to know women are shooting at them because Isis soldiers are not afraid of dying into battle,” she said during the show’s Ctam panel Friday. “They think they will go to heaven and get 72 virgins unless they are killed by a woman.

Hulu’s upcoming drama, “No Man’s Land,” tells the story of the all-female militia that fought in the Syrian civil war against Isis. Called the Ypj, or Women’s Protection Units, co-creators Maria Feldman and Amit Cohen explained the stories behind these courageous women, and why Isis soldiers were terrified of dying by their hand, during Hulu’s portion of the virtual summer press tour Friday.
“I think they became a potent force because, funnily, Isis soldiers are scared of women,” Feldman said. “This idea came to me when I was watching a news report from the war in Syria about Kurdish fighters, and I saw an image of two very young women in camouflage clothes and colorful scarves. One was shooting a sniper rifle and another one was standing next to her and making this weird noise, shouting ‘la la la.”

One of the major buzz titles over the last seven days’ Series Mania/MipTV virtual marketplace, “No Man’s Land” starts in Paris, as Antoine, a construction engineer corroded by guilt at his sister’s death in a terrorist attack, thinks he glimpses her in TV footage of the Kurdish Ypg militia.
Minutes later in series terms, he has made it over the border from Turkey into Syria and into an extraordinary, if highly grounded true-facts-based, world where the Ypg has since 2013 fought Isis yihadists.
The geographical coordinates of Syria are hazy – the series uses no location credits; its landscape is other worldly; its gender are reversed – it’s the women who bear arms given the Islamic belief that a man killed by a woman will have a hard time getting to heaven; and its stakes humble Antoine as the Ypg wage a war for freedom, which Western powers yet prefer to ignore.
