Facebook’s colossal Watch video venture -- a hub for community-oriented and episodic premium content -- is a little less than one month old, but a slew of digital-native creators have already committed to developing original series for the platform.
While Watch is also populated by content from big-name publishers like Hearst and Major League Baseball -- as well as reality series led by TV stars and pricey scripted sitcoms -- digital influencers like YouTuber Meg DeAngelis and sexologist Shannon Boodram are also leading the charge. Facebook says that the Watch ecosystem will ultimately be powered by mid-roll ad revenue, though reports have surfaced indicating that the social giant is poised to spend roughly $1 billion on original content over the next year.

Facebook's Watch, a new hub for episodic shows that marks the social network’s bid to compete for ad dollars with YouTube as well as traditional TV, begins its nationwide rollout today after a three-week beta test. Eventually, the feature will be available to international viewers, too.
Right now, Watch is stocked with hundreds of shows of varying lengths from both individual creators and renowned publishers, Variety reports -- including scripted, reality, documentary, and sports-related content. Facebook launched a major YouTube competitor last week in the form of Watch, a new video ecosystem that the social network says is designed to help creators of episodic shows amass audiences and monetize their work via ad breaks.
And now, homegrown YouTube star Meg DeAngelis announced that she’s one of the first creators to migrate to Watch with It’s A Girl Thing -- a popular series that launched on her YouTube channel last year, and which arrived on Facebook on Aug. 10. In It’s A Girl Thing, which consists of five episodes that have clocked 17 million views to date, DeAngelis plays an exaggerated version of herself as she plans her 21st birthday alongside her fictional best friend, Astrid (Carrie Rad).

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda are two of the most likeable stars in the entertainment business and collaborative partners for the successful new movie Moana. What’s next for Hollywood’s most charming duo? Apparently, it’s a mini-musical about millennials, with YouTuber Meg DeAngelis in the starring role.
Johnson and Miranda have grabbed all the headlines related to Millennials: The Musical, but at the same time, the creative talent associated with Millennials consists mostly of up-and-coming artists, many of whom have ties to the online video community. The project’s director, Scott Brown, is known for web series like Blue Movies and Destroy The Alpha Gammas. Sonya Belousova, who co-wrote the music and lyrics, is the force behind the keys for Player Piano. DeAngelis, the star of Millennials, has 5.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, and many other creators (including Flula, who has a small role) join her in the cast.

New Form Digital is bringing a heavy beat to Go90. The former company, known for its digital productions led by social media stars, has announced Pulse, an “Edm musical” that will arrive on the Verizon-owned mobile video platform.
The star of Pulse will be Kate Findlay, best known for appearing on the AMC/Netflix drama The Killing. In her latest role, Findlay will portray Hannah Cooper, who takes in Berlin’s dance scene alongside her fellow American expats. In keeping with New Form’s mission to promote digital-native content creators, Pulse’s cast will include a pair of guest stars known for their online video work: Meg DeAngelis and Harley Morenstein.
Pulse is an interesting project for New Form because it was not incubated through the studio’s pilot process. Instead, it is being brought straight to Go90, where it will join other New Form productions like The Fourth Door and RePlay.

YouTube Red has launched its first four original programs, and it will not slow down its output. The $10-per-month subscription service launched last October by YouTube is now home to films and web series led by digital stars Lilly Singh, Rooster Teeth, Meg DeAngelis, and PewDiePie. It has also announced its upcoming slate of original programs, which includes newly-revealed shows from Gigi Gorgeous and AwesomenessTV.
The program included in YouTube Red’s initial lineup are A Trip To Unicorn Island, a documentary that follows Lilly “iiSuperwomanii” Singh during a recent tour; Lazer Team, a film from Rooster Teeth that was funded via Indiegogo; Dance Camp, an AwesomenessTV production starring Meg DeAngelis; and Scare PewDiePie, a series that puts the world’s most popular YouTube star into real-life horror scenarios. Viewers with YouTube Red subscriptions will be the first ones to experience these shows, but some of them will ultimately run on other platforms.

You wait weeks for an animation trailer and suddenly, three arrive at one. As the team behind the studio’s Shrek franchise, Mitchell and Dohrn are poised to tackle an entirely new fantasy romp with Trolls. 20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for their animated film Trolls, which is based on the popular toys from the 1990s. I know the trailer doesn't show much, and you can't really tell how good or bad its going to be, but it certainly looks like it will be ridiculous. This is coming from a guy who was never into the Troll dolls, though.
Here's the synopsis:
DreamWorks' Trolls is a hair-raising comedy filled with unbelievable adventure and incredible music. Known for their crazy, colorful, and magical hair, Trolls are the happiest, most joyous creatures ever to burst into song. But their world of rainbows and cupcakes is changed forever when their leader Poppy (Anna Kendrick,) must embark on a rescue mission that takes her far beyond the only world she’s ever known.

Over the past six months, the Ad Council has turned to YouTube stars to promote its important messages, and its latest partner is Meg DeAngelis. The nonprofit agency known for creating public service announcements teamed up with the young vlogging star to further its campaign against texting and driving.
As part of her pact with the Ad Council, DeAngelis included a warning against texting and driving in one of her recent videos. The video is titled “Ten Things You’re Doing Wrong Everyday!” and is mostly filled with simple life hacks, but in its middle section, DeAngelis takes a quick detour to talk about a serious issue that victimizes many teenagers. “No matter how of a driver you think you are, no matter how good of a texter you think you are, it’s never the right thing to do,” she says in the video.
DeAngelis’ crusade against texting extends beyond her YouTube channel.

The Storybook Killer horror short tells the story of four friends who reunite looking for answers about the mysterious disappearance of one of their brothers that took place years before at an abandoned fairytale theme park. The four friends end up being killed off one by one over the course of the story.
The short was directed by Andrew Vallentine, and it stars Ricky Dillon, Ashley Argota, Meg DeAngelis, Josh Leyva, and Cody Saintgnue.
This is a fun horror short that I think some of you will enjoy, and the abandoned fairytale theme park is really a nice touch that added some decent production value and an eerie vibe. It was actually shot on location at the Enchanted Forest theme park in Oregon.

This one is titled The Storybook Killer directed by Andrew Vallentine, and it just premiered online thanks to Amplify and YouTube star Ricky Dillon, who stars in the short film as one of the main characters. The horror short is about a group of friends who go looking for a long lost brother at a nearby theme park, only to end up being killed one-by-one. The dialogue is a bit cheesy, but this is an effective and interesting horror short with some fun kills. The cast includes Ashley Argota, Meg DeAngelis, Josh Leyva, and Cody Saintgnue. Description from YouTube: "Four friends return to an abandoned fairytale theme park seeking answers to a mysterious disappearance from years before." Earlier this year, teen-and-tween-focused digital media company AwesomenessTV and YouTube announced a partnership through which they would produce a slate of films led by online video stars. Now, the first movie born from that pact has been revealed: It’s called Dance Camp, and it stars YouTube personality Meg DeAngelis and actor Nadji Jeter.
As its title implies, Dance Camp will focus on a group of characters who “discover the power of dance.” In order to ensure a dance flick filled with top-notch moves, AwesomenessFilms (the moviemaking wing of AwesomenessTV) and YouTube are working with producer Jon M. Chu, the director of Hollywood dance film Step Up 3D.
Dance Camp be a vehicle for DeAngelis, who is a rising star in the YouTube community and one of the most prominent figures within AwesomenessTV’s multi-channel network on YouTube. Other digital video stars, such as Jake Paul and Josh Leyva, will also appear in the film.

Meg DeAngelis is moving on up. The 20-year-old YouTube star, who got her start doing gymnastics tutorials on YouTube, is now part of a younger generation of online video content creators who are rolling up subscribers by the million and using their charismatic personalities to entertain young fans. DeAngelis' videos range from back to school tips to Diy adventures to advice vlogs, but throughout all her work, she maintains an upbeat attitude. Here's our conversation with her:
Tubefilter: How does it feel to have more than three million subscribers? What do you want to say to your fans?
Meg DeAngelis: It’s so crazy to me. I mean, I’m still waiting for it to hit me that I have 10,000 subscribers, let alone 3 million. I want my viewers to know how much I love and appreciate them. Without them, none of this would be possible. I also want them...

According to John Green’s novel of the same name, “Paper Towns” are locations that only exist on maps, mythological places for mapmakers to ID their work. Luckily, on the evening of Friday, July 17, YouTube Space La was definitely not one of these imaginary destinations.
Rolling out the red carpet in honor of the book’s upcoming film adaptation, Los Angeles’ YouTube Space hosted a lavish livestream event to celebrate the flick and its accompanying soundtrack. With many members of Paper Towns’ cast and contributing music artists in attendance, the event was something of a coming home for Green, whose roots to the YouTube and digital communities remain strong.
Similar in fashion to The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack release party held at the Space last summer, the film’s guests arrived via red carpet before being whisked inside for an evening of celebration and music. Emceed by notable film...

Back in December 2014, AwesomenessTV debuted its temporary pop-up retail store in Los Angeles called Scene@AwesomenessTV. The YouTube multi-channel network has a new pop-up store, but this time on the East Coast. AwesomenessTV has partnered with New York City’s retail experience company Story to bring digital stars’ personal stories to life for a limited time in a unique, creativity-inspired retail installation.
Story is a company which combines the feel of an art gallery with an editorial, curated shopping experience. The retail/creative establishment switches out its theme every so often, with AwesomenessTV being the latest focus. The two brands’ retail “exhibit” is dubbed Your Story.
As part of the Your Story initiative, which is open from March 9 to April 5, 2015, Story pulled together various products which embody the character of some of AwesomenessTV’s top digital creators. Here’s a full list of creators and their favorite brands highlighted at...
