There is one masterpiece that continues to cast a long, illustrious shadow over the film industry: Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of Mario Puzo’s novel The Godfather.
Isn’t it remarkable how a film can so thoroughly capture the collective imagination, resonating with audiences decade after decade? Steeped in authenticity, the 1972 gangster masterpiece is heralded as one of the most acclaimed films of all time, etching its lines, scenes, and characters into the very fabric of cinematic history.

Take Coppola’s ensemble cast, which starred Diane Keaton, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall. The latter played Tom Hagen, the unofficially adopted son of Vito Corleone, played by Brando. Well, his portrayal of Tom in Paramount Pictures’ series is iconic, and it’s no surprise that his favorite scene from the film revolves around the revelation that he is the adopted son.

Playing the role of Corleone family consigliere Tom Hagen, Robert Duvall shared many scenes with the late legend Marlon Brando, during their collaboration on The Godfather. During their on-set experience, Duvall got to witness one of Brando’s acting quirks – using cue cards to remember his lines.

Reports of Marlon Brando using cue cards have made rounds on the internet, for many years, since the actor’s demise. But finally, Robert Duvall addressed the very practice and broke his silence on Brando’s acting quirks. Since many had pointed to Brando’s use of cue cards as a symptom of laziness, without holding back, Duvall claimed the same and called out the legend for his practice.

Francis Ford Coppola had quite the tussle with Paramount to cast Al Pacino in the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather. Pacino was Coppola’s favorite, while the studio was against his casting due to his height. When Coppola finally convinced the studio to cast him, the Scarface actor was skeptical of the film after his first day of filming. He revealed in a 2023 interview that he and co-star Diane Keaton feared for their careers on that day.

However, Al Pacino’s assumptions about the film were proven wrong when it went on to become an industry hit. It also launched the career of the actor who became one of the greatest living actors of our time.

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Al Pacino in the role of Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s epic crime drama The Godfather. However, Coppola went out of his way to cast the actor after Paramount wanted a Marvel star in the role of Michael. Interestingly, Al Pacino, a newcomer at the time, had a different role in mind. He eyed the role of the hot-headed Sonny Corleone, which later went to James Caan.

The studio was also against Coppola’s choice of Marlon Brando for the role of Vito Corleone. They initially considered Laurence Olivier for the role but once he became unavailable, Coppola and Paramount entered a months-long debate on casting Brando.

Before "Star Wars," there was "Thx 1138." A strange, dystopic science fiction movie packed with big ideas up to its eyeballs, "Thx 1138" is now mostly known as the feature directorial debut of one George Walton Lucas Jr. (though it also came back in conversation when the best episode of "Andor" paid homage to it). The future Lucasfilm founder originally created this story of repressed emotions and stymied sexuality as a student film, but by the time it was reimagined as a feature, it had gained backing from Warner Bros.
Lucas' American Zoetrope co-founder Francis Ford Coppola also had faith in the movie, and served as one of its producers. "Thx 1138" starred Robert Duvall, then already known for his work on stage and television, not to mention in films like "To Kill A Mockingbird," "M*A*S*H," and "True Grit." Future "Halloween" actor Donald Pleasence co-starred, along with a then-unknown actress named Maggie McOmie.

When it comes to trilogies, the third one often ends up being the weakest of them all, and unfortunately, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather 3 wasn’t immune to it. Released in 1990, 16 years after the sequel, the film failed to live up to the bar set by its predecessors, which are often regarded as some of the best the medium of cinema has to offer.
Moreover, due to salary disputes, the threequel didn’t see Robert Duvall’s Tom Hagen return, a character that was pivotal to Michael Corleone’s story in the first two entries. Later, when asked about his decision to stay out of the third one, Duvall had a pretty candid response.

It’s no secret that the main motivation behind reviving the franchise after over a decade was money.

As we prepare for Francis Ford Coppola's 'Megalopolis', written, produced and directed by the genius Coppola, let us pay tribute to the auteur. 'Megalopolis' is a mega-starrer with Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jason Schwartzman, Grace VanderWaal, Kathryn Hunter, Talia Shire, Dustin Hoffman, D. B. Sweeney, and Giancarlo Esposito. Humble Beginnings Francis Ford Coppola has been well-known for directing the ground-breaking ‘Godfather Trilogy.’ Before he decided to sit on the director’s chair and make some of the most influential movies of his career, Coppola was a boy who grew up confined to bed with polio when he was nine years old. During his time indoors, he would create puppet shows in order to entertain himself. Eventually, he developed a keen interest in making 8-mm films. The films of Francis Ford Coppola, at their core, are all about family. That theme goes for behind the camera as well as in front of it; according to interviews with Coppola on the Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD special features of the "Godfather" films, the director wished for the actors portraying the Corleone crime family to feel as much like a real family as possible before cameras began rolling. So, prior to making "The Godfather," Coppola arranged for the primary family members — Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, John Cazale and Talia Shire — to meet at an Italian restaurant in New York City, have dinner together and improvise as their characters the entire time.
With all that preparation, and the fact that the filmmakers were adapting Mario Puzo's 400-page novel into what became a three-hour movie whose narrative spans the length of a decade on screen,...

The boys are living their Godfather fantasy.
On Thursday, J Balvin released his new single “Triple S” featuring Jowell & Randy, and De La Ghetto, along with its Corleone family-esque video, which sees the four men showing up to a blood-filled mansion as mafiosos.
As they drop bars about a woman who’s “single, strong, and not to be messed with,” the four men walk through a large home in preparation for a dinner, in which guests end up falling like flies after taking sips of their drinks and bites of their food.

Director Jeff Nichols’ clear admiration for the work of photojournalist Danny Lyon and his 1968 book The Bikeriders that chronicles the lives of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club, is evident in a new drama of the same name about a fictitious motorcycle gang called the Vandals. Nichols has teamed up once more with long-time collaborator and cinematographer Adam Stone to recreate the film-grainy look and feel of 1965’s Chicago by bringing Lyon’s black-and-white photos into full, colourful and vibrant life.
Katy (Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer with a thick and rather amusing northwestern dialect that casts doubt on her casting) is the battle-worn and cynical narrator of the film, as she explains to the Danny Lyon character in the film (played by Mike Faist) how she first got into the gang, married the most eligible bikerider, Danny, and eventually found herself forced into a ‘love triangle’ for Danny’s affections...

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie compared Donald Trump and his allies to the infamous Corleone family in “The Godfather” saga — but “with no experience.”
“It’s pretty brazen,” Christie said of the new obstruction charges brought against the former president while appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “These guys were acting like the Corleones with no experience.”
The new charges in the classified documents case, filed by special counsel Jack Smith last week, allege that Trump attempted to destroy evidence at his Mar-a-Lago estate after receiving a subpoena, accusing the former President of pressuring maintenance employee Carlos De Oliveira to delete surveillance footage alongside his valet Walt Nauta, who Christie likened to Fredo Corleone, the character played by John Cazale in “The Godfather” saga.

With the rise of Latin music in the US music market, it’s no surprise that the AMAs have expanded their categories to honor Latin music in a broader way. With huge names like Rosalía, Bad Bunny, and Anitta competing for prizes, let’s consider who the favorites are to win.
Favorite Latin Male Artist
This is undoubtedly the year of Bad Bunny, so it makes sense that he wins here. His album, “Un Verano Sin Ti,” is the biggest of the year across all genres, meaning that he definitely has a very passionate and large fan base. Bad Bunny has also won this award twice in the past, prevailing in the past two years against many of the same competition he faces this year. If someone were to upset, perhaps it’d be Rauw Alejandro, especially with his major crossover success after the pandemic. That said, Bunny likely has it in the bag.
