The table has been set, and the stakes raised, for The Rookie‘s Season 6 finale, airing Tuesday, May 21 on ABC.
A lot happened in this week’s episode, which opened with Bradford (played by Eric Winter) being quickly benched after he was basically framed, by Pearson, for Mad Dog’s death (which was actually a suicide). Chen (Melissa O’Neill) went undercover as a nanny for one of the underworld’s premiere money launderers, only to learn that Monica (Bridget Regan) would be paying visits. Monica got a bead on those who tried to kill her, thanks to “Cruz Castillo” (guest...

Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford's "The Last Video Store" is more than a midnighter ode to mom-and-pop rental shops where countless cinefreaks found their calling. It's a meta-horror blast of nostalgia about how loving movies can be both a blessing and a curse. Kennedy and Rutherford told my Fantastic Fest audience their production is held together with duct tape and passion — which is unmistakably evident in both cases. "The Last Video Store" isn't the sharpest horror genre satire, nor the prettiest pumpkin in the patch, but there's a scrappiness to classic genre homages that makes this a treat for cult film lovers everywhere.
Kevin Martin stars as Blaster Video owner Kevin (Martin owns Edmonton's The Lobby DVD Shop) — one of the last proprietors of VHS tapes amidst the almighty format wars. In walks Nyla (Vanessa Adams) with a stack of overdue videotapes on behalf of her father. Kevin regales...

The Last Video Store, set to premiere this Friday at Fantastic Fest, pays tribute to the format wars and the video stores of yesteryear through a cursed VHS tape that unleashes terror. Bloody Disgusting has been provided with a clip that demonstrates a horrific fate far worse than late fees for store employees and patrons.
The feature debut of directing duo Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford is described as “Last Action Hero meets Evil Dead” as the VHS Necronomicon has the ability to bring any movie character to life in the real world. That pits the protagonists against a slew of B-movie villains, with the below clip giving a peek at some of the rules and horror.
The official synopsis: “In this love letter to the era of the video store, we follow Nyla who accidentally uncovers a ‘cursed’ VHS tape. A film holds the power to connect the real...

We expected Lucy to go undercover but not this soon.
Lucy's interest in undercover work dominated The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20.

Elsewhere, Laura's relationship with Mark has its ups and down because they live in different time zones, but when it's good, it's perfect.

The kids have grown, everybody!
Nolan has settled into his desired career path as a training agent, and even though Lucy was slow to decide what she wanted to do with her career, she is now getting into the groove.

Tim's ex-wife, Isabel, returned to The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20 and needed help from Lucy.
Our TV Fanatics, Denis, Jasmine, and Christine, are here to debate Isabel's visit, if Tim is really okay with Lucy going undercover long-term, the return of Skip Tracer Randy, and more!
And was Bailey binge-drinking with her college friend good fun or a stupid waste of time? Read on to find out.
Isabel and Lucy got to know one another. What did you think of their conversation? Were you surprised that it wasn't more focused on Tim?
Denis: I expected it to be more about Tim and Lucy as a couple and how Isabel's reappearance would affect them. I thought it was brilliant to have Isabel offer advice about undercover work instead of a dumb fight over a man. I wasn't surprised it wasn't more focused on Tim because I didn't expect it to be.

Tim's old life collided with his new one when his ex met Lucy as the trio worked on a case together.
And by the end of The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20, it's evident that Chenford may have an issue to navigate, but they can only do that if both of them are honest about their feelings.
Outside of that, it was an amusing hour.
After the heaviness of resolving the murder of Celina's sister, the series, they evidently opted for something more fun and laid back.
The humorous moments and scenarios were aplenty, especially with the running gimmick of a heavily pregnant Angela trying to carry on with the job even when she was tired, miserable, and more than ready for maternity leave.
Angela and Thorsen were an unexpectedly amusing duo. It's further proof that he has found his niche as the humorous other half for any person he's paired...

It has been three long weeks, which felt like a lifetime, but luckily, the wait is over.
With Blanca's mystery solved on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 19, few storylines remain as we close on the season finale. Among those is the work balance between Lucy and Tim's jobs.
The hours started affecting their relationship, and it was evident that it would be problematic if they kept on the same trajectory.
Spoilers for The Rookie Season 5 Episode 20 tease a fun and goofy episode as Isabel crashes breakfast and Skip Tracer Randy keeps getting caught literally red-handed on crime scenes.
He enlists Nyla and Nolan's help to solve these mysteries before he is charged with murders he didn't commit.
Tim's ex-wife visits, and it's extremely weird.
It's never anyone's fantasy to have breakfast with their boyfriend's ex-wife in their own home, but that doesn't save Lucy from going through the awkwardness such a situation can present.
