Day’s short began life as a play he created as a graduate fresh out of NYU and when he moved to LA to pursue filmmaking, it made logical sense to translate it for his first creative venture on the West coast. What makes Lead/Follow so gripping is how Day differentiates it from the play, turning the story into a dance. The couple in question, played by Della Saba and Sam Nelson Harris, venture through the stages of a relationship beginning with infatuation and obsession before the inevitable reveal of personal baggage. Last week, the MPTF NextGen Board, a diverse group of entertainment industry professionals who represent the future of Hollywood, and support the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s (MPTF) mission of “taking care of our own,” hosted the 2021 NextGen Summer Party on Sunday, September 12 outdoors at the iconic Sunset Tower Hotel.
The poolside party benefited the Motion Picture & Television Fund, honored by AMPAS with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and celebrating its 100th anniversary, that supports working and retired members of the entertainment community with a safety net of health and social services.
The event kicked off with a VIP cocktail hour from 6-7pm, followed by the main event from 7-11pm emceed by actor Max Greenfield, complete with a special performance by Sam Nelson Harris of X Ambassadors, remarks from actor Tony Goldwyn, additional music from Ray Rhodes, open bar and hosted hors d’oeuvres, the opportunity to interact...

Exclusive: Singer Sam Nelson Harris of rock band X Ambassadors is teaming with Schitt’s Creek’s star Emily Hampshire on superhero origin story podcast The Beautiful Liar.
The audio drama, which is being produced by LA-based podcast outfit QCode in partnership with Interscope Records, will serve as a companion piece to X Ambassadors’ third studio album, The Beautiful Liar, which will be released September 24.
Harris will star in and produce while Hampshire will voice the role of Shadow and serve as an executive producer. Minnie Schedeen is co-creator.
