The contributions of Black artists to country music have been marginalized, minimized, and, in some cases, wholly erased from the genre’s history. A group of songwriters, singers, activists, and journalists aimed to set the record straight on Wednesday during a live panel discussion in Nashville. Dubbed “Act III: A Conversation Around ‘Three Chords and the Actual Truth,’” the event was presented by the Black Music Action Coalition and the org’s co-founder, president, and CEO, Willie “Prophet” Stiggers.

Following the Capitol riots in 2021, an upside-down U.S. flag flew outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
The New York Times published a photo of the inverted flag, reporting that it was seen at the Alitos’ home in Alexandria, Virginia, on January 17, 2021, for several days, distressing neighbors.
“I had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag,” Alito said in an emailed statement. “It was briefly placed by Mrs. Alito in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”
His wife, Martha-Ann Alito, fought with another family in the neighborhood about an anti-Trump sign placed on their lawn.
The neighbors perceived the flag as a political statement. In the weeks after the 2020 election, the upside-down flag had become a symbol of the “Stop the Steal” movement, in which Donald Trump’s supporters falsely claimed that Joe Biden’s victory...

Summer is coming, but streamers want you to bundle up.
It has long not been an original thought to say that streaming is starting to look more and more like cable, but the industry has been taking new steps to ensure the comparison doesn’t die. On Tuesday, Comcast chief Brian L. Roberts revealed a coming bundle between NBCUniversal’s Peacock, Apple’s Apple TV+, and Netflix’s, well, Netflix. We did not get a price point or a launch date, but we do have a name: StreamSaver. Roberts promised significant savings, hence the name.
If the StreamSaver announcement sounds familiar, it’s probably because that is the precise promise of an also newly announced Summer 2024 Disney bundle between Disney+, Hulu, and Max. Disney has long-experienced the strength of a bundle with two options for consumers to combine its in-house streaming services: the duo is Disney+ and Hulu, the trio adds ESPN+.

Both House of the Dragon and Fallout immediately became international hits, and they share quite a few similarities between them — they both throw immensely talented but ultimately underrated actors into increasingly dangerous situations in beloved fictional worlds that were once very niche. Speaking of HotD and Fallout’s stars, though, these series brought many of them the recognition they deserved.
And now, they’re ready to tackle their next big challenge: killer squirrels. What?
New Horror Comedy Stars Talents from Iconic Shows
As recently reported by Screen Daily, director Craig Roberts is currently working on a new project: a horror comedy movie with an utterly bizarre premise. In The Scurry, a band of deranged killer squirrels decides to seek revenge on the visitors and staff of a nearby eco-café, leading the mortified and terrified humans to defend themselves.
For his upcoming flick, Roberts booked two stars from the biggest sensations of the past two years.

Whilst we're still here trying to catch our breath and wolf down a post-match banana after Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino has already left the court to get the ball rolling on his next cinematic outing. And having already signed up Julia Roberts for upcoming thriller After The Hunt, the Italian auteur behind Bones And All and Call Me By Your Name seems to have tracked down his next leading man: Andrew Garfield.
As first reported by Deadline, the Spider-Man: No Way Home and Tick, Tick... Boom! is currently in negotations to star alongside Roberts in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios production, slated for theatrical release in 2025. Coming from first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett, the film, described as an "intense dramatic thriller", centres around a college professor (Roberts) who finds both her professional and private life thrown into turmoil when a star pupil levels a scandalous accusation against one of her colleagues.

Hollywood lost a real gem when Heath Ledger passed away in 2008. In the few years he had on this planet, the legendary actor was able to bring out the best in the film industry with his performances in films like 10 Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain. He was a part of a total of 18 movies, two of which were released after his untimely demise.

According to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, the new bundle, called the StreamSaver, will be available to all Comcast broadband and TV customers at a “vastly reduced price to anything in the market today” during his presentation at MoffettNathanson’s 2024 Media, Internet, and Communications Conference.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts has unveiled plans for StreamSaver, an upcoming streaming product bundle that packages Peacock, Netflix and Apple TV+ that will be available to all Comcast broadband, TV and mobile subscribers.
“Those three products will come at a vastly reduced price to anything in the market today and will be available to all our customers,” Roberts told the MoffettNathanson Media, Internet & Communications Conference during a session that was webcast on Tuesday.
Comcast, which also owns NBCUniversal, has answered cord-cutting and an increasing streaming video space with Now TV, a streaming TV bundle at the low end of the market, and Xfinity TV at the higher end. But the onset of rebundling streaming products has increasingly taken hold in the pay TV business as major studios look to wring profits from their streaming platforms.

Following Challengers, Luca Guadagnino will next direct After The Hunt, adding Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield to the cast.
Luca Guadagnino is flying high at the moment with the release of Challengers, the highly-anticipated love triangle tennis drama that has been scoring excellent reviews.
Guadagnino also has Queer on the way later this year too. That sounds equally promising given that Guadagnino is directing Daniel Craig in an adaptation of the William Burroughs book of the same name. That one shot last year and is set to release sometime this year (we think).
Looking beyond that, Guagagnino has a packed slate (more on that below) but when news broke last month that the director would be working with Julia Roberts on a project for Amazon, we suspected it might get fast-tracked and that seems to be the case.

It’s hard not to think about romantic comedies when Roberts comes to mind. Movies like Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride had been Roberts’ bread and butter for years. As she entered her 40s, she didn’t think the scenarios often presented in romcom movies would be believable for someone her age.

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected former Trump adviser Peter Navarro‘s bid to stay out of prison while he appeals his conviction for evading a congressional subpoena.
Navarro, 74, was charged with two counts of contempt of Congress after he refused to cooperate with the House January 6 committee investigating the Capitol Riot. Navarro failed to provide documents to the committee and refused to testify. Navarro cited former President Donald Trump‘s executive privilege to maintain confidentiality. However, there is no evidence that Trump ever asserted the privilege or that it would apply in this case.
This is Navarro’s second attempt to stay out of prison. In March, Chief Justice John Roberts denied Navarro’s first request. Navarro was ordered to report to a federal prison in Miami on March 19. Navarro renewed his request to Justice Neil Gorsuch. The motion was brought to a full court for a vote. Previously,...

Steven Spielberg’s 1981 film, Hook, is regarded as the best adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. The film presented a different take on the children’s fairytale and provided a different experience than the other iterations. A popular rumor suggested that Tom Hanks was the first choice for the role of an older Peter Pan. However, the Philadelphia actor clarified that the story is different.
Robin Williams in Spielberg’s Hook
Hook focuses on the story of a lawyer played by the late Robin Williams, who learns that he is the older Peter Pan. When his kids are kidnapped by Captain Hook as revenge, he goes back to Neverland and joins forces with the Lost Boys and Julia Roberts’ Tinkerbell. Steven Spielberg’s iteration of the fairy tale initially divided the audiences but became a cult classic moving forward.
Was Tom Hanks the first choice to play Peter Pan in Hook?...

Comcast notched a small first-quarter profit despite continued erosion in its core cable operations and a lack of new spending from advertisers at its NBCUniversal operations.
The Philadelphia owner of NBC, USA and the Peacock streaming service said profit rose just 0.6% during the period, to $3.86 billion, or 97 cents a share, compared with $3.83 billion, or 91 cents a share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 1.2% to $30.06 billion.
The company’s performance trumped Wall Street expectations. “Our team is continuing to execute exceptionally well in a dynamic and competitive marketplace,” said Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast, in a statement.
The company lost 65,000 broadband customers during the quarter, but was able to harness increased rates to win a small gain in revenue in its key video operations. Comcast said it added 289,000 wireless lines, but saw its overall U.S. video customer base decline by 487,000.

Peacock, the streaming service of Comcast’s entertainment unit NBCUniversal, grew its first-quarter revenue and narrowed its loss to $639 million from $704 million in the year-ago period, and $825 million in the fourth quarter of 2023, despite higher programming costs. The streamer ended March with 34 million paying subscribers, compared with a year-end 2023 figure of 31 million, the company also said on Thursday.
“Peacock paid subscribers increased 55 percent compared to the prior-year period to 34 million, including net additions of 3 million in the first quarter,” Comcast highlighted. “Peacock revenue increased 54 percent to $1.1 billion.”

Dermot Mulroney didn’t have a Bff in any casting departments after starring in 1997 rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
Mulroney shared with the New York Times that despite starring in the hit film alongside Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, he “probably didn’t work for a year” after its release. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” grossed almost $300 million at the global box office against its $35 million budget, and while Mulroney went on to continue his rom-com reign with “The Wedding Date” and more, there was not exactly a slew of immediately available roles with Dermot’s name on them.
“I was sitting there ready for the gift with purchase that was supposed to come along with being in a popular movie, and instead, I probably didn’t work for a year,” Mulroney said. “I chalked it up to me being so tiny on the poster, the little guy on the cake.

The prequel series to Starz’s Outlander has found its lead actors and is heading into production.
Filming has begun in Scotland on Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a show that will focus on the parents of the leads in the main series. Starz previously said the prequel would center on Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) mother and father; the premium cabler now confirms that Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents will also be part of the story.
Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) and Jamie Roy (Lifetime’s Your Boyfriend Is Mine) will play Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who will eventually become Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland. Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) will play Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents, whose story unfolds in World War I-era England.

1954's "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" was the last gasp of Universal Pictures' black-and-white horror heyday. Pivoting away from literary adaptations towards something more resembling contemporary man-in-suit monster movies, "Black Lagoon" introduced one last staple of the Universal Monster line-up: The Gill-man. A missing link in the evolutionary chain, the amphibian man has the same mix of terror and lovelorn pathos as his monstrous brethren.
It's not quite the pop-culture staple that "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" are, but "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" has been reimagined many times (most famously in 2017 with Guillermo del Toro's Best Picture-winning oddball romance "The Shape of Water" — it was almost black-and-white like "Black Lagoon" too). Now a new comic book starring the Gill-Man comes forth from Skybound Entertainment, boasting a title that belongs to a forgotten Universal Horror picture: "The Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives!"
Skybound isn't just revitalizing "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe.

Emma Roberts, the actress known for he roles in American Horror Story and the Scream movies, has transformed her Los Angeles home into one reminiscent of a real-life dollhouse.
“Minimalism is not my strong suit,” Roberts told Architectural Digest. “Every house I’ve ever lived in feels a little bit like a cabinet of curiosities…I loved the idea of making my very own grown-up dollhouse.”
Roberts said her goal was to create a home filled with cherished memories and love that would serve as a sanctuary for herself and her three-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she co-parents with ex-partner Garrett Hedlund.
In a video tour of her residence, Roberts highlighted a unique feature, the “doll wall,” located near her office. Each shelf has an array of collectibles from her childhood and discoveries made in adulthood. She enthusiastically showcased her beloved “drunk cowgirl” Barbie and Blythe dolls.

Comcast is adding a familiar name to its corporate board of directors.
The cable giant and NBCUniversal owner is bringing on Wonya Lucas, the former CEO of Hallmark Media and TV One, as a board member. The company disclosed the addition of Lucas in a securities filing, noting that she will be considered an independent director.
Lucas, a veteran TV executive who worked at CNN and The Weather Channel before running TV One and later Hallmark, stepped down as CEO of Hallmark parent company Crown Media Holdings last year. During her tenure at Hallmark, Lucas focused on building more projects with diverse storylines, characters and themes.
She is also the niece of baseball legend Hank Aaron, an experience that she wrote about in a column for The Hollywood Reporter. Lucas also serves as a director for Atlanta Braves Holdings, the owner of the Atlanta Braves, the team with which Aaron spent much of his career.
