ABC News has tapped Brooke Brower to serve as executive producer of This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
Brower has been managing editor for CNN Politics and, before that, spent more than a decade at MSNBC. The This Week slot has not had a permanent EP since the sudden death in December of Dax Tejera. Brower will report to ABC News President Kim Godwin.
Kendall Heath, who served as interim executive producer of This Week, will serve as executive producer of politics and will report to executive editor and senior VP Stacia Deshishku, working very closely with political director Rick Klein, Godwin wrote in a memo to staffers.
Brower joined CNN in 2016 and, before that time, served as executive producer of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown and Mtp Daily. He launched the latter as an extension of the Meet the Press brand. Brower started his career covering politics as a member...

The cause of death has now been revealed for Dax Tejera and, contrary to what ABC News president Kim Godwin said last month, the ABC News producer did not die from a heart attack on Dec. 23.
Et has confirmed that Dax choked to death because he was drunk while out at dinner with his wife and friends at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse. A spokesperson for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner tells Et that Dax’s official cause of death was “asphyxia due to obstruction of airway by food bolus complicating acute alcohol intoxication.”
The New York Post was first to report the news.
Just last month, Godwin released a statement addressing Dax’s death, which read, “It’s with a heavy heart and great sadness that we share that our friend and colleague, Dax Tejera passed away suddenly of a heart attack last night. As executive...

ABC News’ Dax Tejera and his wife, Veronica, are being accused of leaving their kids alone in the hours leading up to Dax’s fatal heart attack last month.
In a statement released by Veronica Monday, the 33-year-old mother-of-two, who is facing criminal charges, said she made a “poor decision,” by leaving their 2-year-old and 5-month-old daughters alone on the evening of Dec. 23.
“When Dax collapsed on December 23rd, I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital. I asked both a close friend and my parents to rush to my children’s hotel room to attend to them as I monitored them by camera. The hotel would not allow my friend in and instead called the NYPD,” Veronica said in the statement.
“We had two cameras trained on my children as they slept, and I monitored them closely in the time I was away from them. While the girls were unharmed,...

ABC News executive producer Dax Tejera’s wife was arrested on two charges of child endangerment in the hours following his death on Dec. 23, a spokesperson for the NYPD’s public information office told Variety.
Veronica Tejera was booked on two counts of “acting in a manner injurious to a child” after her 37-year-old husband’s fatal heart attack last week, according to a police statement.
While a specific timeline is unclear, the NYPD spokesperson said police responded to a 911 call at 11 p.m. that evening, reporting “unattended children” at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue in Manhattan. That address houses The Yale Club, a members-only hotel. Police said a preliminary investigation “revealed that a 2-year-old female and a 5-month-old female were left alone inside of a hotel room for an extended period of time.”

ABC News’ This Week With George Stephanopoulos topped the key adults 25-54 demographic among the Sunday news programs the 2021-22 broadcast television season, while CBS News’ Face the Nation again was the most watched in total viewers.
All of the network Sunday shows shed viewers from the 2020-21 season, a period that included the momentous presidential election and its aftermath. Since then, some of the programs have gone through some changes, while there has been some speculation of the long-term future of the Sunday mainstays and their Beltway focus.
This Week, which features Stephanopoulos, Jonathan Karl and Martha Raddatz as hosts, averaged 572,000 viewers in the demo, a decline of 11 from the previous season. But that was still enough to top that category, overtaking NBC News’ Meet the Press. The Chuck Todd-hosted show averaged 525,000 viewers in the demo, off by 26 versus the previous season. Washington — Michelle Wolf’s monologue at the White House Correspondents Association dinner dominated the headlines coming out of the evening — even if it was a mere sliver of the four-hour event and only a moment in what is traditionally D.C.’s most social weekend.
The surreal aspect is usually the mix of newsmakers on opposite ends of the political spectrum or at odds in other ways — Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ attorney, was at the annual Garden Brunch on Saturday along with Kellyanne Conway.
Hollywood had a presence, although it was much more muted than in previous years. At Hamilton Live, Kevin Bacon and The Bacon Brothers at one point played “Footloose,” as they were the headliners to a series of journalist-bands, including Lester Holt and the Rough Cuts.
