The X Factor's Simon Cowell has been typically spiky with his criticism about this year's finalists.
The 51-year-old judge - who lost his act Bupsi from his Overs category on Sunday night - told The Mirror that "some of them could look a bit better".
"I'm not going to say who but you know, enough," he said at the Music Industry Trust Awards. "But that's part of the fun of making the show every week."
Despite his disappointment with some of the contestants' appearances, Cowell is certain that at least a handful of the hopefuls have the potential to become a success and sell "a lot of records".
"I've seen three, four or five artists who could not only win, but will go on to sell records, a lot of records," he enthused.
Defending the ITV show following its drop in ratings, he also told Pa at the event:...

It seems Louis Walsh will do anything to go back on The X Factor. Well, kind of.
According to numerous reports on Twitter, Simon Cowell prompted Louis to bid £20,000 to become an X Factor judge at a music industry dinner on Monday night.
But don't fear, this was only for a joke during dress rehearsals. Like Simon would actually put Louis through that for real... right?
Cowell was honoured at the Music Industry Trust Awards in aid of the Nordoff Robbins charity and Brit Trust at The Grosvenor House Hotel, and Louis was there to support him alongside Olly Murs, Caroline Flack and Ben Haenow.
Former X Factor's Bupsi: "Kiera is sweet but Alien Uncovered were like an even fiercer Spice Girls"
Even Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was there, which means they must have made up after their little spat on Sunday's Xtra Factor.

Former X Factor finalist Bupsi was sad to see Alien Uncovered go, describing them as "the new Spice Girls but even fiercer".
The 37-year-old from Leeds - who was the first act to exit the live shows followed by Alien Uncovered - told Digital Spy: "Kiera [Weathers] is a sweet girl we did have that bond.
"[But] Alien Uncovered were fierce, they were like the new Spice girls but even fiercer."
Alien Uncovered and Kiera Weathers found themselves in the bottom two on the ITV show last night, with the girl group being sent home by the judges after a sing-off.
On Monica Michael returning as mentor Rita Ora's Wildcard, Bupsi opined: "You know her story now and I think she's fighter. I can kind of relate to Monica because she's a strong girl and she's got a story.
"She put her heart on the line so I think she deserved another shot.

Former X Factor finalist Bupsi has lamented her early exit on last night's show and suggested that "people were switching on for the first time because I was there, bringing something different".
The 36-year-old singer from Leeds - who was the first out of the competition, along with Alien Uncovered, in a double elimination - revealed to Digital Spy: "Nobody got it [the song], it just wasn't enough, it wasn't right - and now the people are gutted.
"There's some people who are like, 'I'm not watching The X Factor anymore'. People were switching on for the first time because I was there, bringing something different to what they'd had before."
On her supportive fan base, she continued: "What I think people liked about me - it's just me, I think people like the way I control the stage and do my thing.

Eliminated X Factor contestant Bupsi and has revealed she "knew for days" that she'd be in the bottom two - because the song she was given just wasn't right.
The 37-year-old Leeds-born singer was in Simon Cowell's Overs' category, and bowed out of the competition last night, along with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's group Alien Uncovered.
"I knew in my gut for days that I would be in the bottom two, because I knew that song was not the right song," Bupsi, who sang Marvin Gaye's 'You're A Wonderful One' on Saturday night, admitted to Digital Spy.

Alien Uncovered said they couldn't have done anything else to improve their performances on this weekend's X Factor.
The girlband were sent home along with Bupsi in the first results show of the series.

Speaking on The Xtra Factor, they said: "We're very different and we knew that from the start. We wanted to show people what we're about, who Alien are, and hope people got it.
"I think we gave our best performance. We went out on the week where [the theme was] 'This is me' and for us, that was us."
Bupsi said it wasn't as much of a shock to learn she was leaving the competition as she knew the song wasn't right for her.
"I just knew it was the wrong song for me," she said, before revealing that Simon Cowell said he blamed himself for giving her the wrong song.

Anton Stephans was so excited after learning he was safe in this week's X Factor, he decided to give Simon Cowell a big kiss.
However, he was a bit enthusiastic and managed to headbutt him instead, leaving the judge feeling a bit "dazed".

Simon Cowell had a bit of a memory lapse on the first X Factor results show.
Tonight, he decided to send home Alien Nation... we think he meant Alien Uncovered.
Vote! The X Factor 2015: Did the right acts go home tonight?
In fairness to Simon, the group did recently have a name change, but it was to add 'Uncovered' - which might be the same reason Nick Grimshaw keeps getting it wrong as well.

The X Factor finally kicked off its live shows this weekend, and gosh, it looks like we've got a seriously strong field of acts this year. In fact, ranking them seems faintly unfair as even those lower down the league put in some fantastic performances, but we sucked it up and did it anyway:
13. Max Stone
You could have the best voice in the world, Max, and yours is very nice. But you still did a cod reggae cover of 'Someone Like You'.
12. Bupsi
Not quite 'You're A Wonderful One' this week. More of 'You're An Okay-But-We-Preferred-Pony One'.
11. Kiera Weathers
Kiera sang 'Crying For No Reason'... let's hope the voting public won't actually give her a reason to cry.
10. Reggie N Bollie
Reggie N Bollie covered 'It Wasn't Me' but if we were them we'd be taking All the credit for this super fun performance.

Judge Simon Cowell has admitted that he chose the wrong song for his Overs contestant Bupsi on tonight's The X Factor.
The contestant sang Marvin Gaye's 'You're a Wonderful One', admitting that she did not know of it beforehand.
After her performance, the singer drew a mixed response from the judges, with many criticising the choice of song.
Nick Grimshaw said that it "could have had a bit more nasty", referring to Bupsi's trademark style, though he admitted he had a "soft spot" for the contestant.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said she did not know the song either, before Simon admitted that he made the wrong decision with the song.
"You were nervous, slightly intimidated," he said. "You heard some of the singers before and this is a big stage to come out on. But I have to remember what you're all about: you've waited for this opportunity for a long time.

The X Factor 2015: Bupsi sings 'You're A Wonderful One'... but she's not nasty enough for the judges
The X Factor's Bupsi was left disappointed tonight after failing to win over the judges with her take on 'You're A Wonderful One'.
Simon Cowell was left apologising for the song choice when Bupsi struggled to wow with her performance.
Nick Grimshaw did say that the dance was "wonderful" and praised her for working out in a faux fur jacket, but added: "I wanted a bit more nasty if I'm honest. I could have had a little bit more nasty Bupsi."
And while Rita Ora praised Bupsi's presence and energy, she added: "I didn't like that song whatsoever - it felt like I was more at a wedding than The X Factor. But I know you can give more - I needed more of that nasty too."
But there was better news from Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who admitted she'd never heard the song before but praised Bupsi for encapsulating the 'This Is Me' theme.

The X Factor kicks off its live shows this weekend, but do you know what it's missing? 2 Shoes. Ever since the Essex duo burst onto our screens back in 2011 they've held a special place in our hearts, so we decided that the best thing to do would be to get their verdict on this year's acts (minus late addition and wildcard Monica Michael).
Alright, so the pair (also known as Lucy Texeira and Charley Bird) squealed "love them!" about literally every single hopeful on the show - they're basically Brucie going "you're my favourite". But they also had plenty to say about who could be first out, who could win, who could be a third Shoe and much more:

Charley: "Oh, they're so cute."
Lucy: "Are they all sisters? See, I think that's great. And their harmonies are really tight. And you can tell because they are sisters,...

The music mogul spoke to This Morning about the latest series of the ITV talent show, and also explained his hard decisions at Judges' Houses.

Speaking about how he chose his final three acts for the live shows, he said: "[It was] a nightmare, honest, I went home absolutely exhausted."
After much deliberation, Cowell decided to put Bupsi, Max Stone and Anton Stephans through to the live shows.
"The first time I met Bupsi she was the last audition and I was just about to say goodbye… she was too nice, and then of course she replied with 'nasty' and I was kind of in the mood for nasty!"

She's back! Monica Michael was snapped in rehearsals for The X Factor yesterday after becoming the show's Wildcard this series.
Michael - who was originally sent home after Judges' Houses - was seen performing her rendition of Ed Sheeran's 'Make It Rain'. Oh, and she had time for a hug with mentor Rita Ora, too.
Rita was really dishing out the hugs, as she was also spotted embracing Louisa Johnson - who'll take on 'God Only Knows' as part of this weekend's 'This Is Me' theme.
Elsewhere, she could be seen giving Kiera Weathers a pep talk ahead of her performance of Katy B's 'Crying For No Reason'.
But there was also time for a giggle and some dance practice with Lauren Murray, whose dream of performing a Whitney track on the show will become reality this weekend when she tackles the legend's version of 'I'm Every Woman'.

But there was also time for a giggle and some dance practice with Lauren Murray, whose dream of performing a Whitney track on the show will become reality this weekend when she tackles the legend's version of 'I'm Every Woman'.

Alien Uncovered and Bupsi have been voted off 'The X Factor'. The girl group lost out to Kiera Weathers in the sing off on tonight's show (01.11.15) after their mentor Cheryl-Fernandez Versini was the only judge who opted to save them. Speaking after the result was announced, they said: ''It's been an amazing experience for us lot. Being here on this stage is absolutely incredible and you haven't seen the last of Alien; we are back - we will come back. Thank you so much Cheryl for getting us and getting our swag.'' Panic over - X Factor's Caroline Flack Will be returning to host The X Factor this weekend.
The 35-year-old - who co-hosts the ITV talent show with Olly Murs - shared an image of herself in bed and looking under the weather on Instagram earlier this week, which prompted speculation she may be too poorly to present the first round of live shows.
But an X Factor spokesperson has since informed Digital Spy: "She is doing the show this weekend."
Little Mix have also confirmed that they will be taking to the stage on Sunday night's X Factor to perform their new single 'Love Me Like You'.

Last year's X Factor winner Ben Haenow will appear on Saturday night to perform his single 'Second Hand Heart', while runner-up Fleur East will showcase 'Sax'...

Rita Ora has revealed she was "shocked" that Simon Cowell didn't take Jennifer Phillips through as one his X Factor finalists.
The 24-year-old popstar - who picked Louisa Johnson, Lauren Murray and Kiera Weathers as her final three for the Girls category - told Digital Spy: "It was a shock for me that Simon let go Jennifer. I loved her. That was a big surprise.
"But Simon has his reasons and that's why he's Simon Cowell!"
Jennifer performed her own rendition of One Direction's 'Drag Me Down' at Judges' Houses. Cowell later admitted that he was going to pick the 49-year-old singer as his final act, but changed his mind later on and went for Max Stone instead.
On the music mogul previously suggesting the winner is in the Girls category, Ora continued: "Simon supports us, and he loves my category so he asks questions all the time - clearly though,...

The X Factor is well and truly under way, and we've been keeping an eye on everything that's been going on...
When is The X Factor on TV?
The show kicked off on August 29 - and in fact, in an attempt to avoid any clashes with Strictly Come Dancing, ITV bosses have unveiled the full schedule right from the off, so we know everything that's coming. You can get a proper look at it here, but auditions continued until Saturday, September 19 with Boot Camp kicking off on September 20. That was the first of five boot camp shows - two set in a country house, and then three episodes of the dreaded Six Chair Challenge. They were all on Sundays, to avoid the Rugby World Cup, but then Judges' Houses aired on October 24 and October 25... and the first big live show will kick off on October 31. And the grand final? It's set for Sunday,...

Simon Cowell wasn't exactly the happiest bunny when he got the Overs category on The X Factor, making it clear that he didn't want them.
However, he has now admitted that he is no longer so pessimistic - and that he "publicly embarrassed" himself with his reaction to landing the group.
The judge told Digital Spy: "Of course I've changed my tune. I publicly embarrassed myself but they've been great actually."
Cowell added that getting better acquainted with his category has helped.
"I have got to know them now, I know what their strengths are, I've got to work now to give them great material," he explained. "And we have to look after each other now.
"I've got to know them, they want to win, they want to do well, so I've got a point to prove."
The judge also revealed that live Judges' Houses are "probably not" going to happen next year,...

The new live twist on the Judges' Houses stage of The X Factor this weekend came as a surprise to viewers, but is the change in format here to stay?
Well, in the words of Simon Cowell, "probably not".
Vote! The X Factor 2015: Who is your favourite act in the Top 12?
Speaking to Digital Spy on Sunday (October 25) following the live recording of the second Judges' Houses show, the music producer shared that he had his first taste of life on the other side of the judging table, and it didn't sit too well with him.
"It was hell," he said. "For the first time, I know what it feels like to be a contestant. At that stage listening to people boo you..."
Bupsi Brown, Anton Stephans and Max Stone emerged on Saturday as Cowell's top three, but Max could have quite easily lost his place in the live shows to Jennifer Phillips.

The X Factor might have kicked off Judges' Houses last night in a two-and-a-half hour extravaganza - but there's still some work to be done. While Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini can sit back and relax, there are still two categories yet to be decided.
That's right: Nick Grimshaw still needs to choose his Top 6 Boys, and we'll also see the Girls performing for Rita Ora and Meghan Trainor in an attempt to make it through to the live shows. It's going to get intense, people.
Of course, anything could happen - who knows if Simon will suddenly introduce a wildcard twist (*cough* Jennifer *cough*)? So join us from 7.30pm when the show kicks off and we'll bring you all the action...
20:56For now, though, we'll say good night - do keep leaving your comments and stick with DS for all the X Factor coverage you need. And Obviously...

It was an unexpected X Factor this evening for the first Judges' Houses. The results were announced live, with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell naming the three acts they'd be taking to the Live shows from the Groups and the Overs.
Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora have yet to make their decisions, but tonight had plenty of talking points, particularly from Simon's camp. Digital Spy was watching along and had a look at what the general public were thinking. Here is a round-up of the best tweets:

Tonight saw our first trip to the Judges' Houses in The X Factor, and for the first time ever it featured a new element where the judges had to name their final three acts live. We didn't know what to expect, really, but tonight's performances proved that the judges had some tough decisions to make.
Re-live the performances of those who we'll be seeing again in the live shows in Digital Spy's video round up below:

Bupsi Brown, Anton Stephans and Max Stone have been chosen by judge Simon Cowell as the Overs to go through to the Live Shows of The X Factor.
The judge admitted to having changed his mind from his initial third pick, choosing Stone instead, with Jennifer Phillips, Ebru and Kerrie-Anne Phillips eliminated.
Fellow judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora told Cowell to go with his gut instinct for his final choice, while Nick Grimshaw encouraged him to opt for Stone.
Cowell admitted that Stone was the "underdog" in his category.
After the judge made his choices, Stephans said he was "over the moon", clearly ecstatic from getting through.
Stone said that it was "absolutely amazing" and thanked Cowell for putting him through.

The Hunger Games' President Snow has got nothing on Simon Cowell.
Kerrie-Anne Phillips has said that the Six Chair Challenge made The X Factor look like Panem.
"It reminded me of The Hunger Games. It was a fight to the death," she outlined.
"It was brutal and unexpected. I knew the format of it but I had no idea how intense it was going to be.
"I felt blessed in my situation because when I got out on stage, the audience were fine. But the other contestants had a really rough time and that was not nice to see."
And Kerrie-Anne is not the only one of Simon Cowell's Overs category to describe the challenge as "brutal".
"It was like a slaughterhouse," described Bupsi Brown.
"The crowd were insane. I was there thinking, 'What the hell have you lot been drinking?'"
Ebru added: "I went on last,...
