Mohamed Hadid, the father of models Gigi and Bella Hadid, has apologized after allegedly sending New York Rep. Ritchie Torres racist and homophobic messages via Instagram direct message, according to the New York Post.
“I need to apologize,” he wrote on Instagram Saturday. “Not for the anger I feel but for the words I used to express that anger. I intended to express how Mr. Torres is a shill being used by Israel. A state that not only mistreats Black and Brown people but pinkwashes their atrocities using their projected gay rights as a shield for their human rights violations. My feeling after 76 years of being a refugee from the country where I and my ancestors were born and watching a genocide unfold are at an all time high. I am watching Unites State politicians work as Aipac messengers of genocide.”

Republicans have referred a resolution to expel Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y) to the House Ethics Committee — sparing themselves a public vote on the fate of the indicted congressman.
On Tuesday, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) introduced a privileged resolution asking that “Rep. George Santos be, and hereby is, expelled from the House of Representatives.” On Wednesday, 221 House Republicans, all but one of their members, voted to move the resolution to the Ethics committee.

Exclusive: Members of a House select committee on China met with Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger and later with a group of Hollywood filmmakers and executives Wednesday, amid concerns over industry business practices in engaging with Beijing.
The committee’s chairman, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-wi), was joined by nine other members, including its ranking member, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il).
According to a source close to the committee, the hourlong meeting “was constructive and it was candid.”
Gallagher expressed concerns around censorship, and Iger spoke about “the relationship with the Chinese Communist party and how it has changed,” among other topics, the source said.
Iger was joined by other Disney executives, and they spoke about how “their goal is not to change the stories,” the source said, adding that the executives conveyed how they tried to walk the line between cultural and political requests from Chinese censors. “They admitted it...

Today’s indictment of Donald Trump quickly became tonight’s punchline for TV’s late-night hosts.
Trump arch-nemesis Jimmy Kimmel said he found out about Trump’s indictment less than two hours before walking onstage, but the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host had no problem filling most of his monologue with Trump jokes, including “The ‘J’ in ‘Donald J. Trump’ now stands for ‘Jail,’ ” and, “He’s going to be read his Miranda Rights. Wait until he finds out that all this time he had the right to be silent.”
Kimmel also had some suggested titles for new reality series Trump might sell, given his circumstances. Among them: The Celebrity Apprehentice, Arrested Developer and, of course, the all-purpose Biggest Loser.
Kimmel had earlier tweeted a video of himself walking out to rapturous applause and, taking a page out of Trump’s book, hugging a flag. “A day many of us thought would never come!

Megadonor and disgraced crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried burrowed his campaign cash so deep into the Democratic Party that lawmakers are now preparing internal investigations to be sure they’re rid of it — and prepared for any potential restitution to victims of Bankman-Fried’s crimes.
The campaign of Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-n.Y.) is currently conducting an internal assessment of any donations it may have received from political or professional associates of Bankman-Fried. Once those donations have been identified, the Torres campaign will set them aside for a fund it expects...

After Donald Trump called for the “termination” of the Constitution, falsely claiming there was “Massive & Widespread Fraud & Deception” in the 2020 election, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) trolled Republican Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). “Sounds like the Constitution doesn’t matter much to your boss,” he wrote in a tweet that quoted McCarthy saying Republicans will “read every single word of the Constitution aloud” on the House floor when they regain their majority next year.

Kanye West’s Instagram account was restricted over his exchange with Diddy due to antisemitic language, and it didn’t take long for the “Gold Digger” rapper to find himself in hot water with another social media platform over similar concerns.
As the Jewish Chronicle reported, on Friday West issued a tweet that was so blatantly antisemitic that Twitter took it down shortly after it was issued.

Bill Maher’s Real Time was back on HBO Friday night, returning from its winter break as the host told his studio audience that it was “wonderful to see your beautiful masks again.”
That was the theme for most of the show, as Maher and guests looked back on things that happened in the long stretch between his last show in November and today. He exited at a time when omicron wasn’t really around, unlike now, when the variant is causing all sorts of chaos.
Thus, where things stand now with the pandemic was the key focus of Friday’s panel discussion with author/journalist Bari Weiss and New York Congressman Ritchie Torres.
Maher noted that there’s “A reset going on in the world. We have to live with (the coronavirus). It’s not going away.”
Torees agreed. “I think we’re gradually transitioning to normal,” while Weiss echoed,...

Exclusive: Bill Maher is back and ready to rumble.
“I feel like Covid is still the dominant issue of our lives right now and it should not be anymore,” the Real Time with Bill Maher host says as the HBO series prepares to kick off its 20th season tonight. “And I think the big discussion on our show Friday night when we go on, is should we continue with the Covid policies we’ve had in the past?”
Set to feature a one-on-one interview with On Tyranny Graphic Edition: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century author Timothy Snyder and panelists Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-ny) and Honestly podcast’s Barri Weiss, the Real Time 20th season debut will undoubtedly see professional contrarian Maher also tackle the legacy and possible future of Donald Trump. Vlad Tenev, founder of retail stock trading app Robinhood, told a House Committee on Thursday that “the financial system should be open to everyone,” including frenzied buyers of GameStop and AMC Entertainment whipped up by a Reddit chatroom.
He apologized profusely that a funding rule had forced the app to subsequently block share purchases – a temporary restriction that was a focus of the five-hour hearing today. The stocks fell and some Robinhood users lost their shirts.
Tenev was testifying before the House Financial Services Committee alongside the CEO of a hedge fund that made a killing on GameStop and another that lost big in a short squeeze. Individual investor Keith Gill, known as Roaring Kitty from his YouTube videos and Reddit posts, bought GameStop and touted it on Reddit’s colorful WallStreetBets chatroom. He agreed with lawmakers that the stock “had gotten...

As the country awaits the final results of the presidential election, there were major strides when it came to the representation of people of color and the LGBTQ community on many fronts — many film and TV figures from Hollywood celebrated as the world saw progress in the House and Senate.
“The Squad” which includes Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts won re-election to Congress and they have added more powerful voices to their crew including Cori Bush who was the first Black Congresswoman in the history of Missouri. Director Victoria Mahoney and RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 winner Jaida Essence Hall were one of the many that sent their congratulations to Bush.
In addition to Bush, antiestablishment liberal and former school principal Jamaal Bowman defeated Conservative Party candidate Patrick McManus to take a seat in Congress.
