Gold Gala is the type of weekend where you can share an intimate booth at L.A. culinary hotspot Yangban with a Pulitzer winner (journalist Jose Antonio Vargas) and a top festival exec (TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee) on Friday night and then mimosas and a sound bath at the Four Seasons the next morning with an Olympic figure skater and a former Miss Universe (Madison Chock and R’Bonney Gabriel, respectively) – all as part of mere pre-gaming to the titular main event, which took place at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Ostensibly a cultural celebration and awards dinner from Asian Pacific power broker network Gold House, the third annual Gold Gala was simultaneously an haute couture showcase (fashion designer Prabal Gurung served as its creative director) and a family reunion, with 600 Api talent and leaders from across multiple industries turning out in their finest “heritage black tie,...

As Selena Gomez once said, everything is not what it seems. On Oct. 5, Meta unveiled Billie, an AI chatbot created using Kendall Jenner's likeness. Outwardly, the bot resembles the model to a T, down to her mannerisms, tone of voice, and blinking patterns. "Chatting with me is like having an older sister you can talk to, but who can't steal your clothes," Billie captioned its debut Instagram post. The chatbot is the first in a line of 28 new AI assistants modeled after celebrities, and as one Instagram commenter succinctly put it, "that's freaky as hell."
To be fair, artificial intelligence has proven useful in gathering information and analyzing data at a faster pace in myriad industries around the world, including healthcare, cybersecurity, financial services, insurance, the beauty industry, and business enterprises. Still, this most recent development could give "Black Mirror," "Severance," and even "The Matrix" a run for their money.

Meta‘s latest AI-generated characters look awfully familiar.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp has partnered with a group of celebrities and influencers to launch 28 new AI chatbots. Those characters include “Zach,” who looks and sounds just like MrBeast, and “Coco,” a “dance enthusiast” who is a dead ringer for Charli D’Amelio.
The celeb-lookalike chatbots were developed using the second generation of Llama, Meta’s large language model. The participating celebs allowed Meta to record their voices and film their movements. That data was then used to build the AI characters, who will chat with users on Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Some of the stars who participated in Meta’s Llama 2 experiment — such as Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton — are traditional celebs who have embraced emerging technologies. In order cases, Meta teamed up with YouTube and TikTok creators like MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson), D’Amelio, and Lauren Riihimaki,...

Angelina Jolie brought 21-year-old son Maddox Jolie-Pitt as her date to the White House state dinner in Washington DC on April 26. The pair arrived arm in arm to the soirée, which President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Jolie looked ethereal in a breezy white gown, matching blazer, and gold accessories, while Maddox looked sharp in a black suit and tie. The outing was a rare public appearance for Jolie and her eldest child, who studied at Yonsei University in Seoul and worked on the crew for Jolie's upcoming movie "Without Blood."
Several other notable stars were in attendance at the state dinner, including Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and "Fixer Upper" duo Chip and Joanna Gaines. During the event, President Yoon surprised guests by singing one of his favorite songs, "American Pie," before Biden presented him with a guitar signed by Don McLean.

“I never get anything right! I got one!” a dumbfounded Ken Jeong exclaimed at the end of Wednesday’s second episode of “The Masked Singer” Season 9. Magic struck when the notoriously bad guesser correctly named Howie Mandel as the secret celebrity hiding inside the Rock Lobster costume. Ken was the only panelist who got it right; Jennifer McCarthy Wahlberg and Nicole Scherzinger both went with Martin Short, while Robin Thicke picked Steve-o.
Ken chose Howie because of two clues in particular: the judge’s gavel (referring to his recurring stint on “America’s Got Talent”) and the hospital scrubs (a reference to his role on “St. Elsewhere”). “This is someone who is a legendary comedian — someone who is one of my influences,” Ken stated emphatically after the red crustacean screeched out “S.O.S.” by Abba while running around the stage as if he was being boiled.

World-renowned athletes Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe have launched A Touch More, a new production company that centers the stories of revolutionaries who “move culture forward.”
Bird, a five-time Olympic gold medalist and basketball legend, and Rapinoe, a two-time FIFA World Cup-winning soccer superstar, created the company to “bring a touch more understanding, connection, entertainment, and conversation to the evolving media landscape” by amplifying narratives around identity, activism and underrepresented communities, including LGBTQ people, Poc and women.
Famous for their game-changing abilities both on and off the playing field, the pair of star athletes and engaged couple are all too aware of the status quo in sports, which is why they’re fighting to shake things up. Throughout their careers — Bird recently retired after a stellar 21-year WNBA career while Rapinoe is playing toward her third World Cup appearance — the athletes have championed for more visibility and pay for women.

Mickey Guyton lent her voice to an empowering tribute to women in sports and the strides they've made - and the ground left to cover - at the 2022 Espy Awards on July 20. During the Los Angeles-hosted award show, numerous women athletes took the stage to address the 50th anniversary of the Title XI legislation, which went into effect in 1972 and prohibits sex-based discrimination in any federally funded educational programs.
Guyton's performance of her 2020 track "What Are You Going to Tell Her?" was preceded by legendary tennis player Billie Jean King, who questioned the audience, "How do you measure 50 years? In the wins? In the number of obstacles you've overcome? The distance still to go?" Title XI "changed the game, but it's just a start," King said before Guyton began singing.

Chloe Kim has her sights set on Hollywood. The snowboarding star and two-time Olympic Gold medalist has signed with Anonymous Content for management representation with the intent of broadening her resume with acting work.
She’s dabbled in on-screen work already, having appeared in Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” music video, in a cameo opposite Hailee Steinfeld, Aly Raisman and Lili Reinhart in the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot directed by Elizabeth Banks, and as a semi-finalist on the reality competition series The Masked Singer.
But Kim is obviously best known for her gold medal-winning talents. At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Kim became the first female in history to win back-to-back gold medals in the halfpipe event, following a 2018 victory. The first gold notched a place in the history books as it made Kim the youngest woman (at 17) to win an Olympic snowboarding medal.

Michelle Yeoh was honored with the SeeHer Award during Gold House’s inaugural gala on Saturday night. In a night that celebrated Aapi excellence and heritage, Yeoh said, “All women’s stories need to be told and seen.”
“I arrived here and saw the sea of amazing Asian beautiful faces and realized I’m not in Hong Kong, I’m not in Malaysia, I’m in freaking in Los Angeles, and we are celebrating each other,” Yeoh said as she accepted the award from directors Jon M. Chu and Destin Daniel Cretton, and producer Jonathan Wang.
She talked about the importance of women and representation. “Science tells us women outlive men. But even with extra time, we have to get a lot more done. If you try to have a baby after the age of 35, science tells us that is a geriatric pregnancy. While men are just starting their lives.

Fans of celebrity humiliation got their money’s worth at the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2022, which emanated live this evening from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
A record-breaking 1,000 slimings were poured at the event, hosted by Miranda Cosgrove and NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski. That, plus music from Kid Cudi and Jack Harlow, a journey into the metaverse with the Nick orange blimp, and the usual celebrity appearances were among the highlights.
The event also had an appearance from the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, who spoke to the resilience of today’s youngest generation, especially children of military members and veterans, and encouraging America’s youth to keep growing, learning, and giving back to their communities;
Also on display were teaser clips of animated action-adventure feature film DC League of Super-Pets, presented by voice cast members Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson; and martial arts...

The 2022 Beijing Olympics concluded Sunday with icy fanfare, a spirited speech from International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach and an audience count that pales in comparison to previous Winter games.
In overnight numbers, NBC’s Sunday primetime coverage of the closing ceremony gathered a 1.0 demo rating 6.57 million viewers, bringing the least-watched Winter Olympics to what seems only an appropriate ending, ratings-wise. In 2018, the PyeongChang games gathered 14.8 million viewers in final primetime numbers. In 2014, NBC brought in 15.1 million viewers for the Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
Overall, NBCUniversal tracked an average Total Audience Delivery of 11.4 million viewers each night of coverage across all platforms including NBC, Peacock and USA. This marks a 42% decrease from the 2018 games’ 19.8 million total audience down.
Already looking at record lows overall for Olympic viewing, NBCUniversal has not yet released data for the closing ceremony. When they do, expect metrics from Peacock, the NBCSports app and other...
