Oregon is indeed quite a strange name for a Turkish movie, but if you just watch the movie, you will understand that the film is a nostalgic tapestry of emotions, a sort of a ‘mix tape’ of eccentric individuals’ hopes and dreams who all came together for a brief moment in time because of a cassette titled, you guessed it, Oregon. The movie, directed by Kerem Ayan, is like an evocative summer daydream, where one looks out the window and sees real people going about their day, and you can’t help but empathize with them. The 16th Meetings on the Bridge hands out its awards - Istanbul 2021 – Meetings on the Bridge/Awards
The winners of the Istanbul Film Festival’s co-production platform include the upcoming projects by Selcen Ergun, Selman Nacar, Gülten Taranç and Tareq Daoud. The 16th edition of Meetings on the Bridge ran from 2-9 April, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) within the scope of the Istanbul Film Festival. It drew to a close with the online announcement of the award winners, during which the head of Meetings on the Bridge, Gülin Üstün, thanked the team, the supporters, the awards sponsors, the jury members and the participants. This was followed by a message from the director of the Istanbul Film Festival, Kerem Ayan. The winners were chosen from among 21 film projects in development and seven in post-production, hailing from Turkey and its neighbouring countries (see the news). The UK filmmaker behind Four Weddings And A Funeral and Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire will be joined by Danish actress Lisa Carlehed, Italian composer Pivio, Indian director Rima Das, Italian director and cinematographer Fabrizio Maltese and Istanbul Film Festival director Kerem Ayan.
Together, the jury will consider the 21 films in official selection and hand out prizes for best film, director, script, actress, actor, cinematographer and music.

The winners of this year’s Open Doors Hub co-production platform at Locarno Film Festival (Aug 3-13) have been revealed.
Bangladesh director Kamar Ahmad Simon’s first feature documentary Day After Tomorrow (working title) was awarded an Open Doors production grant worth $30,500 (CHF30,000) as well as the Arte International Open Doors Prize with a cash prize of $6,700 (€6,000).
The second in the planned Water trilogy, Day After Tomorrow already has French producer-consultant Dominique Welinski’s company Dw onboard as a co-producer.
Whilst attending Open Doors in Locarno this week, Simon was also able to meet the German producer Jakob D. Weydemann who will be serving as a co-producer on his next feature Silence Of The Seashell which received funding from Creative Europe-backed World Cinema Fund Europe fund last month.
Weydemann was in Locarno for the Alliance for Development initiative with the Italian-German co-production Children Of The Ice...
