You know the score by now with these 100 page anniversary specials. They are a celebration of some of the most iconic characters DC has on their roster, with a nice blend of multiple covers by great artists, around a dozen stories by different writers and artists and some bonus pin-ups. Pricey, but usually worth the money. Aquaman is certainly worthy of celebration, reaching 80 years in print is no mean feat after all, though he’s not always been such a celebrated character. Often the focus of ridicule in fact, despite being one of the longest serving members of the Justice League. I always liked the classic Aquaman personally, not so much the post-Peter David version, hook for hand and all. To each their own though. Which is lucky, as you can choose from the following 11 stories and eras. Let’s take a look.

As a kid in London, Emilia Clarke got a distinct vibe from her local comic book shop: “No girls allowed.”
The Emmy nominee and lead of the HBO pop culture juggernaut “Game of Thrones” was therefore doomed to spend her adolescence reading hand-me-down comics from her older brother and meeting caped crusaders on the big screen, she said.
“I read a lot of fantasy novels full of rich worlds as a child, like ‘Lord of the Rings.’ That was always the place my imagination would gravitate toward. Later on, when I went to Comic-Con for the first time at 22 with ‘Game of Thrones,’ I was amazed at what I saw — almost entirely men. Later, as tides turned in the industry and #MeToo emerged, I began to look at the community through those eyes and it was arresting,” she said.

I’m a pretty easy mark when it comes to Superman books. A quick check of my collection shows over 2000 books with Superman in them. Throw in Superboy and Supergirl and, well, I guess I’ve got a super-addiction. But I digress. As much as I love Superman, he’s been a well travelled property in his 83 years of being published, and coming up with new approaches, or new spins on old wheels, is getting harder and harder. Superman: Red and Blue seems to exist for just that reason, to give Superman some fresh takes, some new looks, but to retain that central core that defines him. all in just the colours red and blue, of course. I like the idea, so I hope the execution lives up to it. Let’s take a look.

One of the execs behind Valiant's resurrection is starting a new publisher with a different plan. Meet Bad Idea.
Dinesh Shamdasani, one of the people who helped make Valiant Comics' rebirth in 2011 such a success, is back at it with a new comic company. For fans of his tenure with the Bloodshot publisher, this new venture is going to look familiar.
Shamdasani and his team announced Bad Idea Comics, a new publisher with a curious business model. The company plans on only releasing one or two titles a month, only as physical media, without collections or variant covers, to only 20 comic shops around the United States at launch (with plans to expand into more as certain criteria are met).
The creators on board include some outstanding names.
Joshua Dysart, writer of Imperium and The Life and Death of Toyo Harada. Jody Houser, the definitive writer behind Faith.

For some reason I seem to be reviewing a lot of comics with female leads at the moment. Lois Lane, Mary Jane, Black Canary, the female Doctor (from Doctor Who), and now one of my personal favourites, Supergirl, and Batwoman. Which is nice. It’s nice because there is such a lot of stuff to choose from out there, and female characters are as likely to get chosen as any others. I remember getting laughed at back in the early 1980′s because I read Wonder Woman. Couldn’t understand why, as she was as iconic a character as Superman or Batman but, apparently, because she was a ‘girl’ she didn’t count. How times have changed, albeit after taking a several year detour through the Bad Girl T&a era of the 1990′s, which I’m willing to bet my...

It’s not easy being the greatest female icon in the history of American comic books but, even after more than seven decades on the job, the Amazon princess they call Wonder Woman handles that burden with noble grace and singular determination.
That’s one way to interpret the striking, just-released cover artwork for the upcoming, 96-page, prestige-format, 750th issue of Wonder Woman from Burbank-based publisher DC Comics. The milestone issue will hit shelves at brick-and-mortar retailers on January 22, the same day it lands on the virtual spinner racks of online retailers.
The image evokes the Hellenic imagery of mighty Atlas hefting the world on his Titan shoulder and it was illustrated by Catwoman writer/artist Joëlle Jones, just one of the many DC stars who made contributions to commemorative issue.
Announced interior artists include Colleen Doran, Jesus Merino, Elena Casagrade, Gabriel Picolo, and Wonder Woman Rebirth illustrator Nicola Scott.

Wonder Woman #750 features an all-star lineup of talent.
Action Comics and Detective Comics went back to legacy numbering for huge milestones. In January, the Trinity is complete, as it's Wonder Woman's turn.
DC announced a giant anniversary issue - Wonder Woman #750 - coming January 22nd. It will be a 96 page comic, and like Action Comics and Detective Comics #1000, it will be a bit of a short story jam session. However, unlike those two thousandth issues, Wonder Woman #750 mixes in some newer talent to go with the classic Diana creators who are almost fundamentally required by the universe to be in here.
The book will feature new stories from Greg Rucka and Gail Simone, arguably the two most accomplished and important Wonder Woman writers still making comics today. Rucka wrote Diana's Rebirth arc that brought her up to date in the new continuity in addition to fleshing out...

We have a guide to the can't miss comic cons and fan conventions in North America coming in 2019!
Just as there are no limits to fandom with an amazing breadth and scale of stories to fall in love with, there are no limits to the places to explore that fandom alongside your nerd herd, or geek tribe of choice.
For the better part of a decade, and at least the past six years, I have worked as a nerd-gone-pro, speaker, host, and moderator at up to two dozen cons annually across the country, and the globe. Suffice to say, I know and love the con scene. While there are staples to most pop culture events – celebrity signings, photo ops, cosplayers, t-shirt and toy vendors, after parties and hopefully an endless selection of comics – each town has a unique vibe due to eclectic bunch of attendees.

Legendary and Sunrise are collaborating on a live-action film version of Sunrise’s “Gundam” giant robot franchise.
The movie was announced by the companies on Thursday at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The property was created in 1979 and encompasses televised anime, manga, animated films, video games, toys, and novels. The companies said in the announcement that Gundam goods dominate master toy licensee Bandai Namco’s earnings almost 40 years after its inception.
The original “Gundam” series was set in an era in which humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, those living in colonies seek autonomy, and launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth.
The project will be overseen by Cale Boyter on behalf of Legendary with the Sunrise creative team. No actors, writers, or directors are on board yet.
